While its been reported on Yahoo and local news sources, for those who missed it and may have tickets or plans...
Roy Horn, the "Roy" in Siegfried & Roy, was mauled by a White Tiger Friday night. Siegfried and Roy is the popular animal/magic headliner show at the Mirage in Las Vegas.
About 45 minutes into the early Friday night show, Roy brought out a 7-year old male White Tiger. The Tiger did not lie down on cue and instead "playfully" snagged Roy's forearm. Roy then starting knocking the Tiger on the forehead with his microphone, and the tiger lunged at him, taking Roy by the neck and dragging Roy offstage.
While introduced as a debut (a joke line in the performance), this White Tiger has been performing since 6 mos old.
Roy has suffered massive blood loss and several surgeries this past 24 hours - and the prognosis is uncertain. No change in status (Critical/Stable) but interviews with friends and local entertainers who are at the hospital have not been encouraging. Penn of Penn & Teller said "It doesnt look good".
The Tiger has been quarantined on Mirage premises. No word from Animal Control on the fate of the animal.
Anyway - MGM / Mirage has cancelled all shows through Christmas (which may be the limit of advance sales) and is providing refunds. If you had plans to see this show - check MGM / Mirage. If you have plans to see any other shows this coming holiday, I'd look at booking early - it was a big show with patrons that are now going to look at other shows.
