I was just doing research about the Disney's America project, which was notoriously shelved a few years ago. For those of you who don't know, Disney had plans for a new history theme park to be built in Virginia in the late 90s. The project understandably met with much resistance, as it turned out the park would have been located near some actual historical sites. The park would have changed the area completely, and not in a good way.

However, I think the idea behind the park was sound, and I hope that there are still plans to build it somewhere in the area. There are plenty of non-historic areas which can be used -- heck, there are acres and acres of undeveloped land in Maryland (my homestate) which could be utilized *hint hint*!

Unfortunately, Disney may still be wincing from the stigma of the Virginia project. No doubt they are not eager to have similar protests erupt if they choose another bad location. Let's hope that the project isn't gone forever...

[Edit: I failed to mention that another point of contention with the park was that it threatened to distort American history. This may or may not have been true -- but we may never know now...]
