I just thought I would get a Cedar Point thread going!!! Since I live in Ohio I have been several times.....if you love coasters it is the place for you...other than that not much more to be fond of. Even though it is on the beautiful Lake Erie. You can make a nice holiday of visiting the islands of the lake. Right now Six Flags of Ohio had turned into one massive park with their purchase of Sea World of Ohio!!!! They have been on a building spree for the past couple years as well. It is going to be awesome place to visit this summer!! -Travis

Cedar Point is definitely the hotspot up there. Having lived in Ft. Wayne for many years (I do get around), I remember Cedar Point was the weekend summer event for many. Disney parks required extensive funds and preparation, so Cedar Point was the best thing.

Seems Six Flags Magic Mountain and Cedar Point are in an arms race.

Of note, Knott's Berry Farm is owned by Cedar Fair, parent company of Cedar Point. I expect we'll see some duplications in the future.

Here's where it gets even more fun. Cedar Fair wants ALL of it's parks to have certain key elements. Each Cedar Fair park has a Camp Snoopy kids area, a Coasters Diner, an upcharge attraction/"Challenge Park" area, a large water splashdown ride, and a steel hyper (200+ foot tall nonlooping)coaster. Knott's has all of those but one, and they're working on it.

It would be nice to see a hypercoaster in Orange County.

Maybe they can bring out a successor to Millenium Force?

At least for now, I'm pretty doubtful that they would build a coaster that is taller than Millenium Force at Knotts. They still consider Cedar Point to be their flagship park and their main selling point there is the coaster selection. I do hope that they build a hyper at Knotts in the near future, though, and I'd still be very happy even if it is a few feet short of the record. :)

I used to live in Ohio and even worked at Cedar Point during the summers of 89-91. It has been about 6 years since I have been there, though. My wife and I are planning a trip out to the midwest this summer and we are hopeful that we will be able to make a side trip to Sandusky.

When I lived back in Michigan, I was only a couple hours away from Cedar Point. The one great thing about them is that they totally go for broke and they always try to bring out the best. Sure, some of their cosaters haven't aged especially great (Disaster Transport, Iron Dragon, Mean Streak and Mantis), but they still have some of the best rides of their respective genres. Mill. Force, Magnum and Raptor are all excellent rides (based on what others have told me about Mill Force), Thunder Canyon and Snake River Falls are still amongst the best Water rides i've experienced. They have a world class selection of flat rides, and Power Tower is still a great thrill with only a couple things coming close as far as drop thrills go. In the years to come I can definitely see more world class record breaking coasters along with some coasters that don't necessarily go for records, but do pack in the best thrills. Quality above all else.

They have purchased a water park in San Diego county. There is plenty of land to build on and I hope they get started on an amusement park. Course with the power problems.. this might not be the best of times.
