The click and drag portion of your survey does not work in any way for me, a Mac user. They won't drag, nor cut and paste.

Gemini Cricket 08-19-2003, 10:16 AM It also allowed me to take the survey more than once. (I didn't, but it was going to let me.) :) Uncle Dick 08-19-2003, 10:26 PM Originally posted by merlinjones The click and drag portion of your survey does not work in any way for me, a Mac user. It worked fine on Safari. stinkerbell 08-20-2003, 01:18 AM On the "Do you have an AP to WDW?" question, I had to answer Yes, because I could NOT get to the bottom of that page to answer no and it wouldn't let me skip it. So for the record, I do NOT have a WDW AP. :D mad4mky 08-20-2003, 01:29 PM I had the same problem the Mac user had. When I drug the "box" over to the numered squares...no matter where I wanted to put the first box...it would only want to go to the #1 box. The 2nd one...to the 2nd box. I got angry...and closed it out. So...now I am sure, I look like I started the survey..than quit...which I actually did...but I didn't plan it that way. And...I am not on a mac.:) Mark Goldhaber 08-20-2003, 02:23 PM I just dragged 'em all up, then re-sorted them into the order that I wanted 'em in. I suppose that you could drag stuff in front of choices that are already up there, but it was easier for me to just sort 'em afterwards. Maybe try it that way. JeffG 08-20-2003, 02:26 PM This is largely a design opinion, but the whole "drag the boxes to the order you want" mechanism really struck me as confusing and needlessly complicated. I'm also not at all surprised that it is prone to incompatibilities on some browsers. Any reason why you didn't just give a list of options and have people rank them using entry boxes or a pull-down menu? The JavaScript necessary to confirm that there were no duplicate entries would be much simpler, and less prone to error, than what you are using. -Jeff DanS3 08-20-2003, 06:39 PM Some answers about the survey: It's designed to be able to run on Microsoft Internet Explorer versions 5 and greater, and Netscape Navigator version 6 and greater. According to our server logs, this covers the vast majority of MousePad readers. I apologize if you are using another unsupported browser, but unfortunately there is no Javascript "standard" that all browsers support. As for Mac users, I'll look into that. I believe it should work, but I don't have a Mac I can test it on. I'll let you all know if I find and fix anything there. And finally, as for why we have the drag-and-drop interface instead of some kind of simple non-Javascript interface - well, I originally had a design where you simply clicked a button to choose them in order, but our testing showed that users found it too complicated. Tell you what, though, if I have time I'll put the older version up so those of you who can't use the current version can try the other one. M4M - it does that for everyone. You have to drag them all up there and then sort them. I found this confusing as well but figured it out before I got mad enough to quit. :) stinkerbell 08-21-2003, 06:59 AM I sorted mine, but there were a TON of options and I didn't put them in any sort of order after the first two, cause it was taking too long..... which defeats the purpose of it. I know I'm not alone in this. Just thought I'd let you know. mad4mky 08-21-2003, 12:55 PM Originally posted by Cadaverous Pallor M4M - it does that for everyone. However, I too fiddled around with the "put in the box" part until I saw how it worked. The first entry goes in the first box, the second can go front of it or behind it, the third can go in possition 1,2 or 3 (the others will shift). You don't have to put them all up and then rearrange them, just deside with each one where it fits relative to the ones that are there. Actually, I think it is a nice desision making design- but it is not obvious at all until you play arround in it. I almost gave up. Perhaps a line of explanation can be added to that page. (Although as I tryed to explain it above I can see it wouldn't be easy to put into words). We don't want to make the survay only work for the most stubborn of our group do we? ;) Alex S. 08-21-2003, 02:26 PM Yes, we discussed that question quite a bit before implementing the survey. (Some of you may have seen the version that we put up for a few minutes a while ago.) It is a complex question because Dan (the creator of the survey) is trying to do a very specific type of analysis with it. Normally it is done differently in a personal interaction, but it was difficult to translate online. We are tracking how many people drop out of the survey without finishing and are assuming that a good portion of those are doing so because of that question. I'm sorry that some people were frustrated with it, but I did agree with Dan that the more specific analysis possible would be worth more to us than that provided by more straightforward, similar, questions. justagrrl 08-22-2003, 06:43 AM Can you make the pop up box, asking you to complete the survey, disappear after you've taken it? As a side note - I had no problems putting my choices in the boxes - but I didn't check the order when I was done. So, now I'm wondering if mine were correct or not. hmmmm.... (and phew - there were WAYYYY to many options in there that I would have put last.) DanS3 08-24-2003, 04:11 PM Okay, as I promised, for those of you whose browser can't do the drag-and-drop, I have a version of the survey that doesn't have that. Instead, you have to select the combinations of features in the order of your preference - i.e., pick the one you like most first. Here's the link: http://www.mouseplanet.com/old_mpad_survey/MousePad_Survey_Entry.php This is only for those of you who couldn't get the other version to work - in other words, if you already completed the regular version of the survey, you can't take it again. Let me know if this works better. |
