View Full Version : Baby Care Centers

Well, at least they're aptly named! I have to say I loved the fact that there WERE baby care centers, but have a few gripes (oh don't I always?) which I would like to share. Firstly, any nursing mom will agree that one of the things you'd like to do before you nurse is go to the bathroom. But at DL babycare there are no facilities for Moms (and don't tell me there aren't any restrooms, I'll bet there are ones for the staff right behind that door that says "CM's only"). Fortunately at DCA they DO have facilities for adults. However, at DCA the lovely rockers/gliders provided for nursing don't have seat cushions... ouch! They are as hard as granite. I guess they don't want you lounging around or something, but GEEZ! It would also be nice to see nursing stools in front of the gliders, but maybe I'm being too demanding?????? Oh yeah, and the staff can be a little nutty too. I was nursing all alone at the DL BC and my husband had to hand off the toddler but he wasn't allowed to come back to the nursing area (alone I was right?) I thought they were being a little psycho. One more thing, though I was THRILLED that the kid potties are cleaned each and every time they are used, the cleaner actually gave my toddler a rash where she sat on the seat (but I really can't gripe about something being too clean can I?)

Okay, now that I've griped, it's really nice to have the facilities, they are very welcome breaks and help me nurse better than elsewhere.

Nice to hear the follow-up to your trip. I remember being "locked out" of the baby care center when my wife took our daughter back there. I agree that they cannot clean a bathroom too often. I went to the beach recently and believe me, I would have much preferred to get a rash then deal with the bathroom facilities they had there.

I have never been to the Disneyland Baby Care Center, but I HAVE been to the DCA Baby Care Center. We went to DCA when my son was just 10 weeks old! (I don't want to hear if you think he was too young ;) ...that's another thread)

Too young? I want to know why you waited so long to take him! Let's see, Matthew and Spencer were 19 and 17 DAYS respectively for their first trips. I saw a lady I know at the park last weekend whose 4 week old son had been 3 times-- first trip was at 2 weeks.....

And furthermore, Monica, why haven't you been to the DL BCC? I'm assuming that if you've taken your son to DCA then you've been to DL with him at least ONCE?

Puh-lease!

I need to make a horrible apology here--

I don't know WHAT happened. I THOUGHT I hit "Post reply"

APPARENTLY, I hit "Edit/Delete" Post.

UGH-- I feel SICK about this. On NUMEROUS levels. First of all, I KNOW Monica. Second of all, she wrote a GREAT report about taking her son to DCA, the DCA Baby Care Center, it's staff, etc, etc.

UGH. (I said, that already, didn't I?) Monica-- I'm so sorry. MousePadders, I'm so sorry. Monica, if you have the time to come back and re-write your post, I know we'd like to see it.

Ok, now I'm going to try to do something to make myself feel better. I can't believe I did this....

No worries! Here goes...in paraphrase of course since I don't remember verbatim.

We went to DCA when Ben was 10 weeks old. I nurse him, and he was eating every 2 - 3 hours at the time. We used the Baby Care Center 4 times. The Staff was wonderful. They always expected us, and bid us farewell with "we'll see you in a couple of hours!"

It was WONDERFUL. Of the 4 times we were there, there were only 2 other families using the facilities. The nursing area is behind a curtain, and can handle 2 nursing mom's at one time. The nursing chairs are BIG gliders which I thought were quite comfortable. Since there was no one there, the CM's had no problem letting my husband back there while I nursed. Of course, when a mom DID want to nurse, he had to leave the curtained area but was free to roam around the rest of the small quarters.

Aside from the nursing area, there's a changing area with 5? changing tables as well as an itty bitty little toilet perfect for toddlers who are potty trained.

There are also high chairs and tables for children eating solid foods.

There WAS an adult restroom which was always clean every time we used it.

One of the CM's told me there was no policy in either of the parks against breastfeeding, so if I felt comfortable to go ahead and feel free. I'm not very familiar with DCA so forgive my vague description...but, I found a great place to nurse my son. It was in the patio area of that restaurant near Soaring. Very nice. Truth be told though, I always looked forward to our little escapade to the BCC. It was a nice time for my husband and I to relax while I nursed Ben in a very comfortable, cool environment.

And actually...No Adrienne, I haven't yet been to the Disneyland Baby Care Center! I'm excited to though. The CM who was working DCA the day we went said she used to work at the DL BCC and it was even better.

We no longer have AP's, but we're making a special trip on Dec. 22nd and 23rd for the Holidays. Ben will be 7 months at that time, and I'm sure the BCC will REALLY come in handy since I'll still be nursing him as well as feeding him solids. Woohoo!

Thanks for re-posting, Monica. This time I was extra-careful NOT to hit edit/delete.

Yes, the CMs at DCA used to work at DL BCC. A couple of my favorites are over there, in fact. They know who they are and I send messages to them via the CMs at DL from time to time to tell them to get their fannies BACK to DL. ;)

In some ways, I think that the DL BCC is MUCH nicer. Erin hit on my only two gripes: It does really need an adult restroom, but there really isn't space to put one. And I've mentioned in my articles that I really don't like that they won't let DH go into the nursing area with me even if no one else is using it!

If you've read my article on the DL BCC (http://www.mouseplanet.com/akrock/hello.htm) (and I'm sure you have, right, Monica..... ) then you've seen the photos of the most luxurious changing tables on earth. The kid potties aren't auto-flush (is the DCA potty for kids still auto-flush?), there are two potties instead of one, and there is lots more room in the changing/potty room at DL's BCC.

Hi again. Just wanted to mention that yes, the DCA BCC toddler potty is not automatic (they have a sticker or something over the laser eye). So that was nice. Thanks to you AdrienneK, when I took Bridget for the first time at DL I remembered your "Happiest Potties on Earth" article and put my hand over the eye. My little girl is terrified of the sound and swooshing and it saved me from tears (or saved HER from tears). Of course it isn't easy to put your hand over that thing and put the paper thing down, and get the panties down, and get the kid on the potty.... etc etc. you know what I mean? My DH still refuses to take her to the potty (in public) because he's so intimidated by it all.

I wanted to also say that my youngest is 17 weeks and was great on our trip to DL and DCA. The BCC's were really instrumental in making things work though, because no matter how okay it is to nurse in public, my baby seems to sense the hubub, noise and activity and won't nurse as well as when we're at the BCC. So it's a nice breather for us both.

Did I mention that they have the cream of the BCC CM crop working over there? This is great news, IMO.

Maybe we need to add to our list of "backpack must haves": stickers or something to cover up the blinky eye on automatic flush toilets! Of course, we'd remove them before we left the restroom, but it would make the whole process easier!

I think that this is the optimal use for the BCC nursing areas-- when you want a quiet place you can go to alone! I know that one time I was at DL and Matthew was really fussy, needed a nap, but wouldn't go down. I went to the BCC nursing area to get away from the noise and activity and calm him down. because it wasn't going to work outside!!

Yes! Plus, sometimes...when there's a lot of hussle and bustle going on around him, Ben likes to suddenly decide he wants to see what's going on. Popping off the breast, leaving me cold and exposed...doing a few quick glances from left to right...then, get back on. Actually, I think it's cute, but dont' want to subject anyone else to his "feeding tools". hee hee.

I know I mentioned it before..but I... like Adrienne...cannot stress enough how wonderful the nursing areas are. Especially, if you get really cool CM's who let your husband go back there with you if you're alone. It really was nice quite, relaxing, bonding time between me, hubby and baby.

I think grocery stores should have Baby Care Centers! And Department Stores! And..And! And!..the list could go on and on.

Aww. Thanks Lani! That expression cracks me up. He's a very "pensive" little guy.
