The latest issue of Amusement Business reveals several details about the $10 million Intamin Rocket Coaster coming to the park next season. The ride will launch at 72 mph in just two seconds, straight up a 150 foot “top hat” element and plunge 180 feet down the other side. Unlike Intamin’s previous two Rocket Coasters (Xcelerator & Top Thrill Dragster) the ride is far from over, as you will shortly enter a 135 foot tall Cobra Roll and then run through two-and-a-half barrel rolls. Two and a half? That’s what it says... something they are calling a Flying Snake Dive, so I’m wondering if the final “half” part of this element will end with something similar to the “Twist & Dive” element on the Manhattan Express coaster in Las Vegas. The end of the ride comes up quick in just 50 seconds from the launch point until the end of the 2600 foot track. The park will hold a voting contest to choose the name from three possible choices: Stampede, Renegade, and Storm Rider. More details after the press release on the 5th.
