Okay, after much debate, I have decided to start a completly new website. So, 2 days ago, as I was starting to look around for a good host (I wasn't too happy with IPowerWeb, which is what I use for my other site), I came across globat.com (http://www.globat.com). Their plan seemed amazing. 50GB bandwidth and 1GB webspace for only 7.95 a month?! I almost fainted when I saw that and went to sign up immediatly. Right before I clicked "Submit", though, I realized that it *might* be a scam. So I decided to check some reviews on some major webhosting sites. I noticed mixed reviews, some of which say it's the greatest thing sience sliced bread, and some which say "This place STINKS!". So, my fellow Mousepadders, I ask you. Have you ever used this service? If so, did you like it? And if not, do you have any suggestions for hosts that offer comparable features (at comparable prices?). Thanks!
Andrew

I'd like to know what problems you have had with iPowerWeb. I switched to them earlier this year and have been very happy so far.

Well, since I'm the one who suggested iPowerWeb to the both of you I'd like to know too. I haven't had any problems.
Let's see, unlimited bandwidth, more email addresses than you can shake a stick at, 500MB of space is more than enough, good CGI support, good stats, etc. I've had great responses with their tech support. And it's the same price as what you're looking to move to. I don't get it.
The only benefit I see to switching is double the hosting space, but you're sacrificing bandwidth. If you're looking to fill up that 1GB of space you'll be eating up the bandwidth pretty quick.

Oh, whoops. It looks like iPowerWeb doesn't offer unlimited bandwidth anymore.
After checking out this site (http://www.100best-web-hosting.com/) it seems that iPowerWeb scores #1 with an award for Web Host of the Year 2002. Globat scores #2. The reviews for Globat do seem kind of mixed with lots of complaints about downtime. They're also $7.50/month, not $7.95.
Globat's average review is 5.3/10 (9 reviews).
iPowerWeb got 8.5/10 (8 reviews).

Well, I'm pretty happy with IPowerWeb for my site currently, but there were a few features that disappointed me. For instance, they claim to give you "live updates and news feeds for your website", even though to do that, you pretty much have to turn your site into a portal thing (the really annoying types). Also, they charge you $10 for a subdomain (?!). But the real reason I don't want to go with them is that there tech support said that you can only use 3 MySQL databases. Unfortunantly, my site will need a minium of 5, and I don't really like the idea of mixing tables and such (I would hate the fact that if I accidently deleted one database, as I did with my own site a while ago, I would lose my entire site :(). So I hoping to get a host that would basically be the same as IPowerWeb, but only with more MySQL databases and (hopefully) at least 5 subdomains. I've pretty much dropped Globat anyway after I recived this response to an e-mail asking how many MySQL databases they give:
i ThInk wE give 1. U cAn UsE aS maNy aS ure spAce AllOws. IMHO, a host should not respond to prospective customers like that. Anyway, If I can't find another host by tonight, I decided that I will just sign up for IPowerWeb tonight, and in the future, if I require it, I will open up another account with them for the same website (that would be almost like 60GB of bandwidth and 1GB of space for about $15 bucks a month!)
Okay, after looking over this again, I have to agree with you, Bill and Andrew, IPowerWeb rocks! :D :runs over to sign up, with FREE domain included :D:
