Are there any attractions my 19 month old will be able to get on? I'm just curious b/c I'm starting to plan what and where we're going. I'm wondering if he'll be allowed on anything? I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who's been w/small children.

Thanks so much!

Crystal, Nick, and Max :D

I have taken my boys at 18mths and 12 mths. At those ages they both rode:
Small World
Alice
Tea Cups
Mr. Toads
Peter Pan
Snow White
Pinocchio
Casey Jr. Train
Storybook Canal Boats
Dumbo
Haunted Mansion
Pirates
Jungle Cruise
Tiki Room
Disneyland Railroad
Autopia

At DCA my youngest was not 3 yet and he rode all the stuff in Bugs land, Muppet 3D, the Carousal and did the Animation Building, your child would like Playhouse Disney too!

Wow that's a great list! Pretty much what I was figuring for my 3 year old. Thank you for sharing that with me. I'm sure both boys will have a blast!

Why subject the other riders to a child that young? I want to enjoy the ride, not listen to a noisy infant or a mom that keeps pointing out things the the kid does not understand at all. Not to mention the conversations moms have with the kid and father ovee poopy diapers and feedings.

Obviously TecTalker2K - you are not a parent.

Walt built his parks for kids of all ages, even infants and toddlers. We took my son for the first time when he was 6 months old and he loved it! He is now 20 months old and next weekend will be his 3rd time to DL. All the Disney parks do a great job with babies - from the baby care center to the rider swap program, to the restaraunts. In fact, the only rides small children cannot go on are those with heigth requirements, and that is only 7 out of 50-something at DL I believe?

Mommy2NicknMax, I would not hesitate to take your 19 month old at all. Have a wonderful time!!!

That was just out and out rude. There is no reason why a child this age shouldn't go to Disneyland, my boys have both had a wonderful time at this age making the trip even more magical by the look of amazement in their eyes.

I have been "subjected" to listening to obnoxious, rude and vulgar teenagers on rides but I don't feel that teenagers shouldn't be allowed in the park.

Its fine as long as the child does not ruin it for everyone, I think thats what he meant. Sorry for his somewhat rude comment.:)
I went when I was 2 years old and had a blast and im 17 and im addicted to it. Just disappointed that the management got greedy and stuff their own pockets instead of investing in the park for updates, ride maintinance, new rides etc. Did you know we have had fantasmic the show on rivers of america for 11 years now. Thats only because of management back then that we got such a quality show.

We took our son for a week, last christmas. He was 13 months then. We are going again in October for a week, just before he turns 2.

We/he had a fantastic time, the colors and the sounds stimulate the young kids so much.

Just remember to take the afternoon nap along with them.

Have fun

Well I do understand where that post came from. Just poorly worded!

Anyway, I figure I'll take them on the attractions that are more geared for their age. Things like Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise, etc they may enjoy but I won't take them on this visit. I know for sure my 3 year old would be scared of Haunted Mansion so for that alone I won't even bother. And that IS done out of respect for my son's wishes AND out of respect for other people trying to enjoy the attraction.

Although I'm sure my son's will have to witness much "bad behavior" from other people goofing off on rides like Small World and Autopia.

Regardless, we'll have a blast. And yes we will be taking that afternoon nap along w/the kiddos!

I took my Daughter when she was 17 mons. I stayed away from any attraction the had lots of sudden noises: crashes, booming. so, no pirates, mr toad no manison etc... I just stayed away from anything startling.

I took my first son to DLR when he was 19-days-old. My second son was 17-days-old for his first trip.

19-months-old is a fun age at Disneyland! It's easier to make a list of rides he can't go on than the rides he can go on.

Why not take him on Jungle Cruise? My kids always love the JC, even when they've been scared of other rides! It's a boat. There's lots of animals. He won't get the jokes but he'll love the sights and sounds! (Remember, they took the gun off the boat, if you're afraid the gun-shot might scare him.)

Last week we took our 24-m/o on Pirates and he loved it. He's my more adventurous child. I suggest starting with fun dark rides first- Alice in Wonderland or Peter Pan to gauge his reaction to them. Snow White, Pinocchio, and Mr. Toad's can actually be scary rides. Roger Rabbit is fun, too-- oh and how can I forget? Winnie the Pooh! I'm actually kind of anti-Pooh myself but both of my boys love that ride!

You will have a BLAST at Disneyland with your son! Remember to keep yourself at his pace. If he'll nap in his stroller, take advantage of that time to ride some of the faster rides yourself, using fast-pass and rider switch passes.

Oh- Tom Sawyer's Island. Go there. :)

And one last thing: Last week we got my 4.5-year-old on Pirates for the first time in a few years and my husband and I talked to him the entire ride to tell him what was going on and to help him get through it. This was a big deal to our son. We were all so proud when we came off the ride! I'd gladly do it again. People who don't want to encounter children and parents interacting really shouldn't consider going to Disneyland. First it's bad when parents aren't perfect 24/7 now they're not allowed to be good parents and be present with their children in the moment? Puh-lease. Either that or stop eavesdropping.

Thanks again all for your advice! We'll just play it by ear and see how he does. I think he'll do fine. I just can't wait to see the looks on their faces! That alone is worth the price of the tickets.

I will respect your desire to lewve teens out of the park. How about having to be 25 or older to get in.. Yeah... that's the ticket.

Okay, heres a question. My viewpoint differs from most of you. As you can guess, I have no kids asnd can not appreciate them. I also do not enjoy having them as boat or dining partners. I think they truly need to be left out of the general public. I am nt against having special days for young visitors come into the park.

I posted my remarks because this was originally posted oin a general Disneyland category. I deo not go out of my way to take on pasrents. I also thought that being in an intgelligent society, one could express ones viewpoints abd be able to debate or discus them. I have been threatend with expulsion becsause I have offended a couple of you. Is this wghat we do in America? If you don't want to post, PM me and let me know how I am wrong. I don't bite. =) Oh, in case they kick me out, email me at trouble2k3@cox.net.

First off I don't consider this a debate board, I consider it a family board that is helpful and friendly and the place to go with questions about any of the Disney parks.

That said, even if this was the proper place for a debate I don't understand how you feel you can start out an "intelligent debate" by the wording and tone of your post.

I am sorry that you feel that Disneyland is not a place for very young children and infants but obviously they were in mind during the design of the park. Point in check, Fantasyland. The rides have no age requirement and are focused on classic Disney films that most people grew up with and want to share with their children. The park was designed for a place for families to go together and do thing together.

This is YOUR kid not mine. I don't think that Disney had ever wabnted his magic destroyed by babies in his attractions.

You are right it is my child and I fail to see how he has destroyed the magic in Disneyland, if anything he strengthens the magic for me. And I don't think that Walt Disney would feel that his "magic" was destroyed by babies or young toddlers, as I pointed out before he designed the park for families with children of all ages.

will respect your desire to lewve teens out of the park. How about having to be 25 or older to get in.. Yeah... that's the ticket

Even though I have encountered rude teenagers like I posted about I know that not all teenagers act this way and I have no desire to "leave them out of the park" I was just pointing out that inappropriate behavior can come in all shapes in forms. What I feel is inappropriate for the parks may not be what you feel is inappropriate.

And if feel turning the park into 25 years and above is ridiculous. Disneyland is for people of all ages to enjoy.

To the moderaters, I hope that my post is within the boundaries and will not cause any problems. I did my best to state my feelings logically and appropriately.

TecTalker one question... No kids right? and you don't even like them. Why are you in this Forum at all ?

I say you are here just to start trouble, on an otherwise plesant exchange of info between parents.

everyone should just ignore your lack of parental maturity.

Mommy2NicknMax,

I will be at DL next weekend (8/1 - 8/5) with my 20 m/o I will be sure to let you know when we get back how it went. In May when we were there I took him on Snow White without thinking about it, and he got a little freaked out at the end. We decided not to even try HM, even though he loved it when he was 6 m/o. I haven't decided if we are going to try HM this time around or not. if we do, it will have to be when he's in a good mood - just in case.

Woo Hoo - 5 days and counting!

Now, if there anything about me that is important to know is that my mind is always open to new information and examination. In other words, I can change my mind. First, I have a problem with children, like the fingers on the old chalk board, my senses work in much the same way when I hear babies crying. For this I know I would not be a good father. Second, what totaly annoys me are the parents that let their kids go on and on without any respect for others. So, a little of my prejudice entered into my reply. After talking to my lady last night, I realized thst Walt indeed invite the younger crowd to the park, given rides like Dumbo, Story Book Canal and Casey Junior. I got to questioning my own experiences in the park and how children impacted my visits. I couldn't think of any. Okay... so I am wrong and I apologize. I put my foot in my mouth.
