What on earth is a fry mix?!

Basically flour or cornmeal (I think) with some spices - Traditionally, in the South, deep frying is a common method of cooking, especially seafood and chicken. So they made different mixes to use to coat the protein prior to frying it. Here's a website (http://www.cajungrocer.com/spices-seasonings-dry-fry-mix-c-1_67_71.html)that has a few different ones. They're slightly different mixtures, with different seasonings.

My grocery store does have a wider variety than on that one page - which given the simplicity of the ingredients, I don't totally understand - but then I didn't grow up in the South and I don't deep fry my food when I cook it.
(But I have learned that I don't like shrimp with a cornmeal-based coating)

Fish fry, shrimp fry, chicken fry, veg fry. Bread coatings, I guess. I'm trying to think of an equivalent you might have and none is coming to mind. You dunk the item in a liquid mixture (sometimes with egg) and then into the mix, and then presumably deep or pan fry (there are oven bake versions available). Cajun, creole, downhome, original, atomic hot: you name it, they got it.

I think all we have at my store is Shake 'N' Bake (which you'll just have to Google--I don't think I can adequately describe what it represents to a child of the 70's and 80's.

And sorry Drince. Maybe they figure with all the drive-thru drink stations, you shouldn't have access to high temperature frying? ;)

There is also a Super Target not too far away. They have everything just like a Super Walmart.

There is a Win-Dixie just north of the Crossroads Plaza. And a kinda sketchy store in the Crossroads Plaza, it has carpets in the supermarket. What supermarket has carpets through the whole store? And then I was there in Jan. getting Coke and we were going to Customer Service to get Lotto tickets and a cashier wouldn't let us go there without stopping at her register and checking out first. What a weird experience at a supermarket

I think you're talking about Goodings in the Crossroads Plaza. They have great fresh squeezed orange juice, so I always stop there to pick up a 1/2 gallon for my trip. It's expensive, but I don't mind treating myself when I'm on vacation. I've never had any issues there like you mentioned. That is a bit unusual.

There is a Publix on 192 a couple of miles west of World Drive. It definitely sells water and cereal bars - I've picked up both there. I don't think they sell cell phones though - although it probably won't be too difficult to find a local place that sells prepaid phones.

Hi Scooby, a fry mix is seasoned flour/cornmeal type of batter. Each seasoned specifically to whatever meat/seafood you are deep frying, so there are many to choose from. Fish fry, chicken fry, pork, shrimp, veggie etc. Some will be more crunchy with a corse texture some will be more fine ground like flour. In the south it's a social thing to fry when you compn'y over. It's also a good way to gid rid of whatever the hunter/fishermen have brought you, and lastly, a kid will eat just about anything that's been deep fried. Do we really KNOW what part the chicken mcnugget comes from?:p

No cell phones, but everything else. This is where we go to load up on groceries each trip, except for what we bring down.

We always go to the Super Walmart. Extremely clean, not too crowded (we go at night), and has anything you may need. We often stock up on souvenirs there because they are so much cheaper. This year we won't have a car but my sister will be working down there and will have a car. Either that or garden grocer for us!

Anyways, DH is thinking he wants to go shopping upon arrival in December since our traveling friends will have a car. (We are getting a 1 bedroom with a full kitchen so he wants to pick out his own groceries this time)

Probably.
At least the delivery fee.
Plus you'll be able to see what they have in the store to make your selections - and not just go off the abbreviated list that GG has.
AND (I think this may be especially important given your family's recent fitness journey) you can read the labels in the store. Like I want to have high protein (relative) granola-type bars, but no whole/half nuts. From the limited items and info on GG site's, I'd have to be going to every companies website to figure out the nutrition info and ingredients for the varieties that GG lists. It's a lot easier to just look at the labels on what's there in the store.

The only grocery stores we have been to in Orlando were Walmarts. We have gone to 3 different ones in the area and they were all nice. I haven't tried any traditional type grocery stores in the area. Walmart was just right there and too easy.

So where do you all recommend? Super Walmart or Target? Im Leaning towards Target if it is in fact the FULL Target with all the groceries.

If I had a choice between WM and Target with Grocery, I will go with WM.

Agree. I'm up here in TargetLand (Minneapolis) and it's Target everywhere. I don't shop there for groceries. WM is almost always cheaper, and grocery-wise, about the same in quantity.

(small derail)....do you have a Meijer? We used to live in Michigan and that's where we shopped ALL the time! I loved that store! But this was in the 90's before WM and Target were Super Stores.
