I've noticed that there is a wealth of people who have never posted before. What happens to them? Do they just stay there as shells or are you going to prune them?

Do they just stay there as shells or are you going to prune them? This topic has been covered in the Thread Pruning Anouncement (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9887) . For posterity, here was the reply: quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Originally posted by DisneyFan25863 What do you guys do about all the people who have never posted or who haven't posted in months? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Don't post for 9 months, and then we'll tell you. Seriously, though, we feel *very* strongly about maintaining the integrity of our boards. Posts, threads and people don't just disappear in the night. That happens on some other boards I post to, and I think it's bad moderation. On MousePad, your posting history is here for the world to read, unless an individual post needs to be moderated for content, or gets deleted in an 18-month prune. You'll notice that, even when we ban someone, their posting history remains as a record of their participation in the community - (and usually explains why they got booted in the first place!) We don't have a formal policy about people who have never posted. If it becomes an issue, we would probably delete the accounts of people who have not visited the site in XXX amount of time. It hasn't yet become an issue, and I don't think we've deleted any accounts for this reason. Also, there are people who never post, but log in and read the site daily. We won't delete their account just because they aren't posting. When we prune threads, it reduces your post count. If all of your posts get pruned, you could end up with a post count of 0. Should we decide to prune members, we would look both at posting history AND visits. If a member has not visited the site in XXX amount of time, AND their post count is "0", either because they have never posted or because all of their posts were pruned, it is possible that we would delete their account. But, again, it hasn't been an issue. If it is, we'll announce it, just like we announced the prune. Lani 07-13-2003, 01:02 AM One thing that is new and has changed since we originally developed our "no-post" policy: We have our hotel and restaurant review system here, and it requires that people be registered on MousePad in order to be able to submit a review. We may have a number of individuals who have submitted reviews, but who have never posted to MousePad. |
