The new Axim's now come with Windows Mobile 2003! (http://www.microsoft.com/mobile)
Oddly enough, Dell says "Pocket PC 2003". However, the name "Pocket PC" is now no longer used. It's "Windows Mobile" now. I like the new name change. Also, the new WM2003 makes it even, easier to connect to Wi-Fi wireless networks. However, it's just minimal updates from PocketPC2002.
Now I really want one. Maybe I'll bet one for christmas. :)

So that's why my Axim has been delayed! Usually Dell gets things out right away, but this one was taking forever - now I'm okay with it - Hey what do you know it's finally out of production :)

Apparently existing Axim owners can upgrade to the new OS for $29. This article (http://www.brighthand.com/article/The_Upgrades_Are_Coming) indicates which Pocket PC PDAs have upgrades available at this point.

Actally WM2003 is a very minimal upgrade. You can read about the new features here! (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/products/pocketpc/about/2003/default.mspx)

Watch Out!
I've found an artical on Brighthand (http://www.brighthand.com/article/Win_Mobile_03_Slows_Down_Axim_X5), saying that Axim users are being slowed down by WM2003.
QuikQuote™: Dell was one of the first companies to step forward and offer upgrades to Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC to those who owned its handhelds. It has also been shipping the new operating system on handhelds purchased since June 23. Now it is beginning to appear that the new OS is causing problems for its Axim X5 models.
However! Dell has found the problem. An artical on Cnet (http://news.com.com/2100-1041_3-1026579.html?tag=fd_top), report's that Dell is fixing the problem.
QuikQuote™: Dell found a glitch inside software it created as part of the 2003 upgrade. The Dell software was designed to work with the Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC operating system. However, the glitch is not related to Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC software itself, Blackburn said.
So, hold it out for a fix. :)
