Help with I pad e mail issue - virus?

I have a new I pad and a couple of weeks ago received an e mail with a stupid date (1970) which says no message/ no sender. When I press open on it, it says 'this message has no content' but I can't delete it and every time I touch it, it populates an identical message which also cannot be deleted. is this a virus and how do I get rid of it? It also seems to disable the e mail tools so I can't use the scroll up/down tools when it is directly next to an e mail message which it is 8 times now!!!!!

I fixed it by re-setting the I pad.

I realise that you fixed this already - but another trick here is to remove the e-mail account from the iPad and re-add it. that's what I suggest to most folk.
