View Full Version : Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party without a ticket?

Alright, I need your opinions please. First let me start off by saying that I ALWAYS pay for any extras that I wish to enjoy and NEVER abuse ! Ex. re-using last year's mug, is a no-no for me.
Last year I went to WDW with my husband, nephew and his girlfriend and we did the MVMCP. It was a freakishly cold night, so that might have something to do with it, but NOT ONCE did they ask to see our bracelets! We went for hot cocoa and cookies, we went on a few rides and no one asked to see our bracelets that were under our coat sleeves.
So now here's the thing : I'm going to WDW alone this year and wanting to enjoy the MVMCP on dec. 7th and I'm honestly thinking of not paying the extra asked, for this hard ticket event, if it's not going to be more controlled. The reason I'm thinking of not paying is because I don't plan on going on any of the rides but to just walk around and enjoy the shows. Is it wrong to think like that ? Probably! But I did find it upsetting last year to pay and not get asked for my proof of purchase ! That means that alot of people might have been enjoying the same things I was for FREE while we had paid over 200$ for it.
Anyways whether my reasoning is right or wrong is not what I want your opinions on but whether or not any of you have enjoyed the MVMCP without having paid for it???
Thank you all !

I'm not one to give a half an opinion. You ask for my opinion, you get all of it.
See the quote in my signature? Well, my opinion is that if you go to MVMCP, buy a ticket.
Have a nice day. :)

And I more than likely will buy a ticket !
But I am curious to know if a lot of people actually go without buying a ticket AND not get asked by anyone to show their bracelet??
As I say, the night we were there last year was very cold, so I'm wondering if Disney just figured if they were strict no one would be there because itwas too cold or if it's quite normal that they don't ask for proof ? If they just don't ask then why make us pay??

I would not count on past experiences to reflect current processes. I think they have been getting more strict.
Heck, one time, we were exiting the park via walking through the stores down Main Street at the time the party started and I walked out thinking my daughter was right behind me. I literally walked three steps past the CM who was at the door, realized my daughter was not with me, turned around, and the CM would not let me back in. I thought a simple explanation to the CM would get me back in to get her, but alas, I it was not as easy to convince the CM as I thought it would be.

Ahhhh! Thank you 'GusMan'. Nice to read, not that you had problems but that they possibly do check!
You see, this is the thing, I always pay and never argue about prices. Last year I had even bought and recieved 4 tickets for the event in advance and then we had to change our travel dates, so I went ahead and bought 4 more tickets for another date! Didn't even try to ask Disney for a refund or a rebate or anything because they make their policies clear on their website. We work very hard to be able to pay for our yearly vacation, like most people I'm sure. When you try to always go by the rules and yet you find that maybe those rules are not as 'important' as you thought they were then the little devil gets on my shoulder and tells me that 'I ain't dumber than the others and should maybe profit from this 'slackness' too!'
I guess I posted this thread to see if anyone would or will say if they stay without paying the extra so that I can see how easy or hard it is to do so.
I would love to know that my hard earned dollars that I pay for special activities IS special to only those who do pay but if that's not the case then why bother going by the rules ?!
Thank you again GusMan for sharing with me.

How embarrassing it would be to not pay and THEN be asked/questioned regarding the lack of a bracelet. Is the walk-of-shame out of the park worth it? I've attended the Christmas party at WDW and was asked to show my bracelet by some CMs.

Thx for your input 'coronado'. Glad to know they verified if you had one. Yeah, I can picture it, every time you pay they don't check and then the one time that you don't pay THEY DO! LOL!

I ride the train to work here in Dallas, and about 90% of the time they don't ask to see tickets. But when they do, you better be able to pony up and show a pass. If I went into a paid ticket event like the MVMCP without a ticket, I'd be so worried that I was about to be tapped on the shoulder and exposed as a cheat that it would kill any enjoyment I might have at the party.

Thanks danyoung.
And now I'm imagining running to hide in the bathroom everytime a CM comes along! LOL ! But then again.....90%of the time......is NOT very often! Now I know you're talking about the train but still... as I say that night last year not once were we asked for our bracelets (which were under our coat sleeves), not even when we went for the hot chocolate! Now grant you the next day on the news they were saying that it had been a new record of cold! So maybe that's why Disney was so 'loose' with the rules?

I don't really understand why you are asking the question. Of course you should buy a ticket for a hard ticketed event. Whether or not you get asked to show your wrist band or not is irrelevant. Would you go in a shop and walk out with your shopping without paying because there was a 90 per cent chance you could get away with it? You are asking if it's okay to steal basically.

Well it sure is relevant to me if they ask to see my bracelet or not!! The price we pay for it and the meaning behind it, they should ask, they have to ask! I would of preferred they ask me 50 times than not at all! We were 4 that night, we went into restaurants, walked around the streets, got on rides, grabbed hot cocoas and cookies and not once did they ask to see proof! To us, it's like 'well we charge some people but then again don't really care if you've paid or not, just enjoy!' so yeah it gets me thinking 'why pay if they don't even bother to check and anyone and everyone can still be there.'
You talk about walking out of a shop without paying.....would you insist the cashier take your money even if they were completely ignoring you and letting everyone walk out with stuff??
But anyways, a couple of people here have said that they were checked and that's good to know. Thank you Scoobydooby and all the others for your replies. Wishing you all happy memories in WDW and, although still early, wishing you all happy holidays!
And if you do see me on dec. 7th at the MVMCP and ask to see my bracelet......well...... LOL ! I'll be quite happy to show it off!! Bought my ticket last month along with a ticket to see 'la Nouba'. Quite proud of my fellow Quebecer, Guy Laliberté, and how far he's gone with Cirque du Soleil and quite excited of seeing one of his shows for the very first time!
Peace!

Yes.
And they checked our wrist bands last year on a very cold night.

I can say that at MNSSHP this year they checked for wrist bands many, many times. We were waiting for the first Villans show and CMs were walking around the crowd checking for wristbands and then making sure that people left.

I'm hopping on to what jenn said. At MNSSHP just a few weeks ago, they were asking CONSTANTLY--even just walking down Main Street. People were being escorted out. Don't do it. I wouldn't ever try to stay in a park without proper tickets/payment--it's just wrong (imho).

Its just wrong. I agree with Tina, plus I doubt that frequent posters on MP are going to openly admit that they've done this and will tell u "hey its fine, we do it every year, go ahead...." Just not likely.

An update on this...
Was at the party on 12/2 and the CM's were AGGRESSIVELY checking wristbands. I mean more so than any other time I attended a hard-ticketed event.
I think I was checked three or four times just waiting for the parade itself. They had several checkpoints past 7PM, including the entrances to the different "lands."
With this mentioned, I think Disney is getting it right. I was glad they were that aggressive, being how expensive it was.

Just because I saw other people looting would not mean that I think it would be ok for me to join in the looting.
If you think it's ok to attend the party without paying for it, which is stealing, then it's up to you if you want to try it. Whether or not anyone is actually going to check your honesty should have no bearing on your decision.

If you do not have a wristband you will not be able to get into any ride or show. You will not be allowed into any store or restaurant, and you will not be able to buy anything (food or merchandise) at a cart.
In addition, there are normally roving groups of CMs who will check for wristbads; if you do not have one they will not allow you deeper into the park and will tell you to head to Main treet and the exit. Once it gets later you may find yourself being escorted to the gate by a CM.

If I went I'd buy a ticket, I don't care that John and Jane Doe are sneaking around without an armband. But you can bet your sweet patooty that if I saw them, I'd report them. I'm just that mean.

I just went..I paid..they asked me about 5 times to show my bracelet. I could not ride any attractions without it. I did see squatters sneaking around and felt them to be setting a bad example to their kids and in cheap tasteless form..
