When I start typing in an address it gives me all the sites that start with that letter and then narrows it down to all pages on the site that I typed in. How do I get rid of this? I know it's something I will have to re-do on occassion.

I have tried:

deleating history
deleating cookies
trying to deleate each line

I cannot find the button that says clear "history bar" though I swear there was one.

Help?

Tools -> Internet Options -> Clear History should do the trick. At least that works for me (using IE 5.5).

If what Bill Posted dosn't work, do it this way:

Click on THIS (http://www.herron-family.com/images/other/1.GIF) button, then right click on the ones that say "today" "yesterday" "this week" "last week" and so on. The select "delete (as shown in THIS (http://www.herron-family.com/images/other/2.GIF) )

Both of those SORT of work. I've had this same problem. That gets rid of MOST of the autofill address that pop up. But some stay. I haven't quite figured out what stays. It doesn't seem to be the "home" site (i.e., www.mouseplanet.com rather than www.mouseplanet.com/whatever.html). It might be the most recent sites, or the most visited.

The only way to completely rid them is to select "Internet Options" from the "Tools" menu. Click on the "Content" tab. Under "Personal information" click "AutoComplete." Uncheck the box that says "Web Addresses."

So, HBTF, trying to get rid of your porn site history before Tim gets back? :~D :p

I did both of those before posting this. They don't clear the history bar. Maybe I'm not explaining what I am trying to do clearly. I want the whole history bar to be cleared, so it doesn't bring up websites when I start typing in... I seem to recall a button that says "clear history bar" on an older version of IE. Is this still around?

I am using IE 6.0 explorer inside Earthlink ISP.

This is what HELP says:

To delete Autocomplete entries from the Address bar list

The AutoComplete feature saves previous entries you've made for Web addresses, forms, and passwords. To delete entries from the Address bar, you must clear your History folder. You cannot clear individual entries from the list of saved entries.

On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options.
Click the General tab.
Under History, click Clear
