Help! Whenever I try to acces a page where ActiveX controls are embedded (such as Windows Update) I get an error that says "This page may not load correctly because ActiveX controls have been disabled. Please lower your security settings". So I go to Internet Options and lower all my security settings to the lowest setting. I still recive the same error. Does anyone know what is wrong? I can't figure it out, and my friends dad who is an "uber-geek to the max" can't figure it out either. I'm using Windows XP SP1 with IE 6 SP1. Please Help!

BTW: For you Netscape Fans out there: I am only using IE to update Win-Doze, not as my general browser :)

Go into "Internet Options"

Go Into the "Advanced Tab", hit "Default"

You might want to go and clear your cache. Also go into "Downloaded Program Files" (Settings...") button on General tab. And Right-Click any in there, and Un-install. Then Remove.

If that's not it:

You may have a corrupt IE install.

GO to "Run..." type "SFC /scannow"

It may ask you for your XP disk. ;)

If none of that works, PM me, and I'll see if I can do a Remote Assistance, and give it a shot. :)

Okay, I think my computer is a lost cause. MM and I did a Remote Assist to no avail. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to wait for SP2 :)

Well, me and Disneyfan have been on IM for hours.

First, I tried to see if it was just a WU problem. It wasn't.
So, we ran around trying to see if we could fix the ActiveX problem. So we tried to re-install IE6. So, after a "windows logo" error problem, some registry hacking, and other stuff, we just decided to do an "In-Place" install of XP.

Well, first he had a time locating the I386 directory, come to find out, the working directory was on one of his Dell CDs. Then we went through that, and low and behold, it worked! (finally!) :D

Then, after a small celebration, he was updating Windows! (And ActiveX worked again!) :D

(Break out the non-alcoholic champagne!)

After lots of headaches, IM's, reinstalls, Remote Assists, registry hacks, downloads, and kicking my computer, Monorail Man and I finally fixed my stupid computer by just simply repairing my Windows Installation :fez:

Now about that networking issue......:fez: :geek:

EDIT: MM beat me to it :fez:
