How do I get rid of those annoying quick start buttons on the toolbar near the clock. They are gobbling my ram and are driving me crazy. I'm on a PC with Windows ME.

Right click the Start Bar
Select ToolBars
Select Quick Launch

That will remove the Quick Launch bar next to the start menu.

Will that actually prevent those programs from starting at Startup though?

No actually (DOH!) I read his post wrong. I thought he was talking about the quick launch bar to the left next to the start button...

If you want those icons removed your going to have to figure out first what they belong to, then either remove that particular item from the START>PROGRAMS>Startup folder or in some cases delve deep into the registry and pull them out.

mousketeer - Putting your mouse over the icons should display the name of the program. What all is displayed? How much RAM do you have installed?

RAM is cheap. What's stopping you from buying more?

Actually, Click "Start -> Run" and type "msconfig", now jump to the startup tab, and uncheck any programs you don't use. Just make sure you leave systray. :)

I was going to suggest that. However, you may have just disabled your anti-virus software. That's why I wanted to first know what was running. Yeah, some stuff is really unnecessary, but others are a necessary evil. ;)

Depends, AV-s like Norton, and McAffe will auto put it back on the next re-boot. ;) :p :geek:
