Anyone with experience with either of these services, would you care to discuss?
I'm trying to decide between DSL and cable modem. Comcast wants to charge me $45.95 for cable modem, but I think I can get along just fine with the 2nd tier of DSL for $34.95 a month, though I know that I may not always have the fastest download speeds.
What are your thoughts?

If the DSL is going to give you slower download speeds how do you plan on using this? Is it strictly for webpage viewing, or do you plan on downloading a lot music or videos? If it's strictly web browsing then go with the cheaper option.
I currently use cable because DSL isn't available in my area. And even if it was, it's more expensive. I'm very happy with it.

I don't even know what DSL is available in my neighborhood. I IM'd someone who knows more about the subject than I do :cough:andrwe:cough: and he told me it wasn't good DSL, it was lying to me that it was DSL DSL. So I went with the cable modem.
On the one hand, I hate paying anything to a cable company.
On the other hand, we have Dish Satellite, so at least I'm not paying them for anything more than cable modem.
If I can get real DSL, I'd rather get real DSL. I'll have to see if that's available yet, since I don't trust advertisements from the phone company. :rolleyes:

We have had Yahoo DSL for almost a year now and we have had no problems with it! :) Our download speeds are fast. Way faster than dialup. For all it's worth, I'm content with it.

We just got ComCast at home and I will dare say that so far we haven't had any problems. :knock on wood;
We had Coast i Net previously and they had some pretty good service in the beginning, but then for whatever reason their service kinda went south for the summer. :rolleyes:
I couldn't stay on Yahoo for a couple of minutes before being booted off completely. We got ComCast and I haven't dropped a connection yet.

We went with DSL. Cable wasn't available at the time and we weren't to happy with our cable company so no big deal for us (we were very happy to go sattelite).
I think most of these decissions have to be evaluated locally, what your Cable company can offer versus DSL. DSL has specific limitations depending on how far you are from your phone company's switch, so be sure you find out exactly what your service will be like. One advantage of DSL, is you can go through third party providers for your internet service - phone company provides the lines, but doesn't necessarily have to be your ISP.
When making the jump to broadband I found this site (http://www.dslreports.com/) most useful.

Thanks for the link, "that guy," I'll definitely look into it. We're leaning towards DSL plus Dish or DirectTV right now. I'm not too impressed with what Comcast has to offer in our area.
We use the Internet mostly for surfing and occasional downloading. It's nice to have the speed of cable modem, but at this point, anything faster than 56k will seem lightning fast to me!
