Whether or not you approve of the comparison shots...these Carousel pix should be seen.
The allowed budget on this one ride would be interesting...no?

Yeah...that comparison did knock my socks off...though we really didnt get to see much of the actual carousel inside TDS.

And before anyone says that the difference in theme - - and realistic vs, fantasy handling - - accounts for this disparity in carousel treatment between DisneySea and DCA, I'll add that the old California seaside parks (such as our own Santa Monica Pier), often housed the carousel in an elaborate Victoria/Arabian palace-like structure, which would have certainly been thematically relevant, possible and desirable at Paradise Pier. It simply comes down to greed and contempt for the American consumer.

I personally dont think the style used in TDS would look good on PP.

I wasn't talking about the exact same style, but suggest that an elaborate carousel building (in the theme of seaside amusement park - such as the domed carousel buildings in Santa Monica and Venice) COULD have been built at DCA to provide a marvelous themed setpeice, rather than just burying the carousel under the coaster like a county fair (as they did).

Oddly enough (or not) when I first saw the Whoopie Movie building, I thought it WAS a carousel house.

So did I! Sadly, the only spin inside is of a political nature...

I haven't been to DCA, but I did grow up in Santa Monica and spent a lot of time at the pier with the carousel. Certainly it shows that just because it was a seaside carousel, it doesn't have to look cheap. If anyone hasn't seen the SM carousel, rent the Sting, the inside shots where Newman meets Redford were filmed there.
