I just logged on to MP. Then a window came up saying "You have a new private message" or something like that. Then I clicked on the OK button to view it and there was no new PM for me to read.

I think MousePad is haunted.

Did you select for it to show you all PM's from "the beginning"?

It's possible if you haven't logged in for a few days that it was passed the time limit you have set in your settings.

A gray box shows up every time I get a new PM and I log on to MousePad. It says that there's a new message or something... So I click OK and it goes to the message I just got. So it did it and there was no message. Nothing.

Once I read the message, it goes to my PM inbox and there I have it selected to view from the beginning...

Well, not a pop-up window for ads or anything like that... It's a message box, I'm not sure what the official name is.

I wonder if someone sent you a message....then the window popped up....then they deleted the message. I think you can delete a PM if the person hasn't read it yet. Not 100% sure, though.

Interesting! Does everyone get a gray box informing of new PMs? :crying: I feel so left out. All I get is a little yellow box next to the file.

You can enable it by going to the "Change Options" screen in your profile. Just go down to "Pop up a box when you receive a Private Message?" and click "YES" ;)

I just got another one of these. I checked my box and there was nothing new to look at.

Weird.

The day I found out about the pop-up windows was a happy happy day! It makes getting PMs SO much easier! I think we should have the pop-up thing set as default because lot of people don't know otherwise to check for PMs, IMO.

What do you all think?

(this is an unofficial question. I'm just curious. If it would upset a lot of people, I won't suggest it to admin.)

I think the PM pop-up window set as default would be a great idea. You're right, a lot of people don't know to check for PMs.

'Kay I've had this happen...had you logged on recently (like within the last 20 minutes) and gotten a new one? It seems to take the system about 20 minutes to register that you've visited. So if you got a PM, read it, logged out, then logged back in less than 20 minutes later, you'll get the pop-up again.

GC: Had you just gotten a non-ghostly PM right before the ghostly one? If so, did you use the "back" button on your browser to go back to the page you were at when you got the first pop-up? I've noticed that when I do that, the old pop-up reloads all over again to tell me about the message that was new the first time I'd loaded that page.

That's exactly what I did. New pm, read it, logged out, back button to log back in, ghost pm message.
