Universal Theme Parks Honor Those Who Serve With Free Multi-Day Admission, Discounts for Friends and Family Members

Offers Extended to All Active Military Members; Special Discounts Offered at Orlando On-Site Hotels

ORLANDO, Fla. and UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif., May 13 -- To honor their service and dedication, Universal theme parks in Orlando and Hollywood are offering all active U.S. military personnel free multi-day admission beginning immediately and continuing through December 19, 2003 as part of Universal's "Military Salute" program.

At Universal Orlando, members of the military will be given a complimentary Universal Bonus Pass good for five consecutive calendar days of unlimited admission to the resort's two world-class theme parks, Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure, and CityWalk, the resort's dining, shopping and entertainment complex. In addition, up to five family members and friends of each member of the military will be able to purchase a five-day Bonus Pass for $50.00 (plus tax).

At Universal Studios Hollywood, active members of the military qualify for free admission for over 200 days: unlimited admissions between now and December 19. Five family members or friends of each serviceperson will be able to purchase the same 200-day plus pass for $39, offering unlimited admissions through December 19.

Members of the military will also receive a 40 percent discount at Universal Orlando's three on-site Loews Hotels including: Portofino Bay Hotel (from now through December 19) and Universal's Hard Rock Hotel and Royal Pacific Resort (from August 17 through December 19).

Active U.S. military personnel, with proper U.S. military identification, are eligible, including active members of the United States Coast Guard and activated members of the National Guard or Reservists.

"The war in Iraq reminded us once again of the commitment, dedication and bravery of each member of our military," said Tom Williams, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Universal Parks & Resorts. "Whether it be overseas or here in the United States, members of the military serve a vital role for our nation. We want to thank them -- and their families -- for what they do."

Details regarding the Universal theme park offers include:

* Universal's Military Salute tickets can be obtained only at the theme parks' Main Entrance ticket windows.

* Active military personnel must present proper military identification and other valid picture identification to take advantage of the offer.

* If active military personnel are not present, their spouses must present proper military identification such as dependent ID.

* Activated members of the National Guard or Reservists (or, if they are not present, their spouses) will also need to show active duty orders.

* Only the active service member or spouse, not both, may purchase tickets for family members or friends. Family members and friends must be present at the time of purchase. No more than one ticket may be purchased for any family member or friend.

* At Universal Orlando, tickets must be initially used on day of issue and expire within five consecutive calendar days beginning on the day of issue.

Gee, what a shock. Universal copies Disney yet again...

And what the heck am I going to do with a five-day pass to USF? As if one day isn't torture enough...

Actually, both Disney and Universal copied Anheuser-Busch, since they announced their program weeks before both Disney and Universal.

And I am glad to see the Military getting all these great offers....:fez:

Yes, A-B did announce free park tickets for the military weeks ago. This is, of course, a brilliant marketing ploy. While park attendance is slow they can bring in extra bodies, get the revenue from concessions, and score a major PR victory for "supporting the troops".

The difference is that A-B and, for the most part, Universal are not destination resorts. The military folks who live nearby will take advantage of this, but many of them probably already have annual passes. It will have the biggest boost for Disney, where an E-3's family can now afford that cross-country trip to WDW.
