My parents are celebrating their 50th anniversary by taking the family to Disney World. We would like to do something special for them while we are there, and need ideas. Any suggestions?

You didn't say how many of you would actually be going on the trip, so cost would be a factor in my suggestions.

Victoria and Albert's restaurant in the Grand Floridian (very expensive, dress code, no children) is out of this world for an intimate dinner, maybe just the two of them for their anniversary.

For a special family dinner or a larger group, there are so many good restaurants in WDW. What about a little Disney magic at Cinderella's Royal Table for dinner (no characters). Let them know when you make reservations of the special occasion. There were only three of us for mom's 80th birthday dinner (ok, not eaten on the exact day) but she remembers that as the best part of her trip, she was treated like a queen! FYI, once your group is up to a certain size (7 or 8 at some restaurants, higher at others), you must go thru group dining for that venue and give a small deposit to hold space. Some Disney restaurants will provide a cake (extra cost) if you give them advance notice.

Perhaps renting one of the boats for a family fireworks cruise, getting to be the guest family riding down Mainstreet in the parade, there are so many possibilities.

What do the honorary couple like to do? What would they enjoy?

You may also want to call wherever you are staying to see if they can arrange anything special. Your parent's could probably renew their vows there.

I will be having a 25th anniversary in a few years and was actually thinking about renewing our vows at WDW- even with the silly mickey wedding hats. Probably too much. But you might be able to arrange with the mainstreat photographers to take a group shot of your family and have the bride and groom hats for your parents. That would make a nice momento.

I would suggest the dinner at Victoria & Alberts or the California Grill at the top of the Contemporary (if eating at CG make sure it is during the time the fireworks are going off at MK). However, both are very expensive but very nice. Should you wish to do something during lunch, inquire with Disney about the re-hitching ceremony that can be held if they would like to eat at the Garden Grill in Epcot. Otherwise, if they are staying on property, there may be special gift packages that you can purchase and have placed in their room.

If money is an issue, maybe purchasing tickets to the new dinner show at the Poly (luau show- sp?) can be a possibility (about $50 per ticket).

Anyway, tell them Congrats for all of us here as it is an acomplishment to be married 50 years.

Nice suggestions, everyone. Brian Bennett has ideas on The Birthday/Anniversary Trip (http://www.mouseplanet.com/dtp/wdwguide/3_Tripplan/special_considerations/birthday_anniversary.htm)
