With the new "Tahitian terrace" restaurant going in at the Disneyland Hotel Makeover, it makes me wonder what plans if any, Disney has for the original sight that was converted to Alladin's Oasis in Adventureland. The Oasis was a beautiful restaurant, I could never figure why it was closed! The way it overlooks the Jungle cruies, it is certainly PRIME real estate.

While I admit that I've never been to the story telling at the Oasis, I have to believe that something more interesting could be installed.

What are some ideas for this space?

I have always maintained that with very little investment, Disney could turn the spot into a place for relaxtion with 10 minute messages, exotic oils and gifts kinda like a Cost Plus market. It could be a mini bazaar with a view of the water, perhaps with an offering of spiced teas and arabian fruit drinks! Might be kinda fun and open up some space in a very tight little Adventureland.

only if they are all Disney branded - and include a plush doll or characters splashed all over the packaging...

I miss that chocolate lamp with the raspberry sauce in it...mmmmmmm!

And based on my last few visits to Adventureland Roxy or Quicksilver brands are also acceptable. Don't even get me started. :p

They should do something with it, as now its just a big elaborate break room for the jungle cruise guys...one day I had a sandwich in the cave of wonders :)

I didnt know they had storytelling at the Oasis. How do you know when the storytelling times are? My little girl loves Jasmine!

my hope is that when Aladdin leaves the Hyperion...(and it will eventually have too) Aladdin storytelling will return. which is why i think they havent done much to it

What would you want someone to tell you for 10 minutes?? My guess is that you meant massage instead, but I don't think Disney would want to be associated with a massage parlor!!

I also miss the original Tahitian Terrace and have fond memories of warm summer nights, dining under the stars and having a wonderful time! I think the stage/cave area for the Aladdin storytelling is pretty interesting, so I hope to see something really well themed and executed for that area sometime soon.

They stopped doing when Indianna Jones (4?) came out. They were doing a stunt type show instead, they haven't done anything else with the space. On the Weekends (off season), we have found Aladdin and Jasmine having a meet and greet, in the little courtyard between the entrance for the theatre, and the Jungle Cruise exit.

KarenW2: there is massage, and then there is "massage", if you know what I mean. Disney already does offer legitimate massage at the spa at the Grand. I don't think the space at the Oasis is great for that.

It is such a nice space, though. I'd love to dance there. (Or relax with some Moroccan mint tea as I had some henna done!) We saw the storytelling once and, while it was geared to little ones, we had fun watching how the actors handled working with kids. They were masters at improv.

When I was growing up in SoCal in the 60's, this place was always too expensive for my family. I got to eat there once in the 80's, and I really loved it. I also don't understand why such a prime location was allowed to lie dormant for decades.

Yes Karen, In my haste to post, I wrote Message instead of Massage! I wasn't equating it as a "Massage Palor".

My idea was more of the pay by the minute Masssages they offer here in Los Angeles. You sit in a specialised chair with your back facing out and all your clothes on. Its a nice relaxing treat that I thought some might enjoy after a long day at the park. I know it's popular at Century City!

It would also be an easy install and take out if need be. Best of all it's something Disney could charge for, so all those annual pass holders that visit often and aren't necessarily out to hit every ride might want a little quiet oasis time before say a relaxing lunch at the Blue!

Trust me I am adament that Disneyland stay focused on "family" entertainment!;)

I am interested to see if the new Tahitian restaurant being built at DLH tries to replicate the menu and experience of the original restaurant. The original one looked way cool!

This is a later version in the same place

Then they had a story telling there for several years.

It was great to see the old Tahitian Terrace menus again! Does anyone have a program or whatever, to convert the 60's dollars into today's dollars, so we'd know how much these things would cost today, if they were there?

If memory serves, this is where I had my very first Monte Cristo Sandwich and I loved the Tiki Punch we used to be able to get there!

http://www.bls.gov/data/inflation_calculator.htm

According to the calculator, the 1962 teriyaki steak ($3.25) would be equivalent to $23.47 in 2010. Your Monte Cristo would be $10.83.

Thanks for the conversion info!!

Those sound like good prices to me! What's the current going rate for a Monte Cristo Sandwich in the park?

It WAS way cool! My parents took me when I was a little kid. Funny thing is when I went to an authentic luau in Hawaii as a teenager, I was so disappointed. It wasn't nearly as magical to me as the Tahitian Terrace experience I had years before in Disneyland!

Too bad I missed it.

If you ever go to the new Tahitian Restaurant at DLH when it opens, I would to hear your compare and contrast!

A massage by the RIVERS of ADVENTURELAND would be awesome but I don't seeing it as being too profitable. I too would always stop in for tea if they had an exotic tea parlor. I love the ambiance as you all know....YOU KNOW my vote is for a DARK RIDE in Adventureland right there that would be ALADDIN themed like PETER PAN on Carpets set to a whole new world!!!! That would be so cool....but of course....I am mad!

I have never been inside the Alladin's Oasis, is it large enough for something like that? If so that is a great thought!

No I don't think it would be big enough for a dark ride. Could you imagine the congestion for something like that? I haven't seen the storytelling since 2007 and we saw the Indiana Jones show and it was goofy but fun. They need to rework the storytelling and put it back!
