Didn't much care for the episode. They seemed to pick songs based solely on their titles and not necessarily what they're about.
- At least for this episode Finn seems to have suffered a major head trauma, reducing his mental capacities to that of a five year old.
- The Artie on the football team (and actually getting on field playing time) thing is so stupid and unreal (even in stylized alternate reality of this show) that just seeing it briefly in the first minute left me grumbling for the next half hour.
- Rachel being the one to sing Papa Can You Hear Me, and the visuals that accompanied it at the end is weird. From the show there's no evidence that she's even met Kurt's father let alone would be particularly upset by his illness. So then it just comes off as the kind of narcissistic self-flagellation I've seen so many times when people over react emotionally to events that don't affect them. Kind of sapped any of the emotional power of the moment for me.
- I thought they handled the atheism clumsily, more so with Sue than Kurt. I get annoyed when it is presented more as "god pissed me off so I don't believe in him" than a considered conclusion.
- He ate a week old grilled cheese sandwich. Five year old.
The good:
- Young Kurt is as good a find physically as matching Rachel with her mom was (in terms of believable physical similarity).
- I Wanna Hold Your Hand was a good solid emotional moment with some grounding in a sense of reality.
- Less autotune.

I agree that the Finn story line was not so believable. Why would a guy who can, and has, gone "all the way" with a popular cheerleader be praying to get to second base with a girl who is controlling, self-involved, and more prudish than abstinent for any value-based reason? Why, all of a sudden, was Kurt's Dad a "father figure" to him, when he was not that interested in getting close to him before? I did feel that the Mercedes part of the storyline was believable. She shows real caring and empathy, and really goes out of her way to be at the bedside, whether in support of the "patient" (Quinn) or his son (Kurt). Having Kurt attend church with her was, clearly, not about trying to convert him, but bringing him to a supportive, non-judgmental environment-the look on his face when the nice lady sitting next to him took his hand was priceless.

Just a quick clarification -- if I remember correctly, Finn hasn't gone all the way. Puck and Quinn did, but she convinced Finn she got pregnant when they were in a jacuzzi together. Or something like that...

That is not the situation I was referring to. He went to bed with the other cheerleader, Santana,(Brittany's buddy), who expressly came onto him, and they had a hotel room, and they specifically discussed how they had "done it." Afterwards, he clearly felt guilty and not romantic toward her, and she asked to order a burger from room service.

Yup, I agree. It was Santana. However, Finn did tell Rachel that they DIDN'T do it, and Rachel told Finn that she and Jesse DID (I think). It was all in the Madonna episode.
This episode was better than the Britt/Britt one for me content-wise, but it still wasn't my favorite. Love Sue with her sister though.

Ah, the curse of middle age...I don't remember that! (Although I do remember him going to dinner with the two of them.) On the bright side, next time I watch Season 1, it will apparently be sort of like seeing it for the first time all over again! :p

I busted up at Puck's line that he only sings songs by Jewish artists, because it was just so ridiculous, but I loved his rendition of "Only the Good Die Young".

Well, they didn't do a holiday episode last year, so maybe they'll do one this year.
But I think Puck would be so much cuter singing "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer". ;)

I thought that was very believable from a teenager. They often don't care until they're put in a position to care - Or they don't realize they care until there's a crisis. I remember distinctly a crisis that occurred in my teenaged years. Afterwards, my mom said to me "Adrienne, did you forget how annoyed you were with that person before that happened?"

I just heard that they are going to have a "Rocky Horror" episode. Does anyone know when it is going to air? (HUGE RH fan and former Floor Show Cast Member here)

I don't know the air date, but they're already taking pre-orders for the CD, so the release date of the CD might indicate the air date of the episode. I'm avoiding it because I don't want spoilers of who sings what.

Not sure what the official air date is, but I know they're terming it the 'Halloween' episode.

The Rocky Horror episode will air on October 26.
And I couldn't help myself - I cheated and saw who was going to play which part.

LOL I wish some of the Jewish Artists would at least do a holiday album instead of Christmas so they could sing SOMETHING Jewish. Or puck could sing the Chanukkah song! lol
I finally saw tonight's episode (while also watching the miners being rescued). I loved the Rachael/Kurt duet!

I haven't been all that enamoured of the episodes so far this season, but I thought tonight's was the first one that was on par with the best of last season. I liked all the new story developments, and the songs were terrific. Chris Colfer really killed it with his Victor/Victoria song, and then came back to kill it with his duet with Lea Michele. Actually, all the songs/performances were really good. Santana's and Mercedes' song was terrific, and I loved the choreography. And I laughed at Finn and Rachel singing such an old song - how many people even know that song from Elton John and Kiki Dee? Heck, how many people know who Kiki Dee is? And then they got to do a second song, beautiful, but so offensive being dressed up as a nun and a priest - I think Quinn's line about wanting to punch them was my favorite, though I expect Mercedes was most offended at the use of the nun and priest outfits as costumes.
I really liked the interaction between Quinn and Sam, and I also liked her explanation about how all of them were so nice to her last year when things were bad, and she can use her current popularity to do whatever she wants, including being in Glee Club.
And I about fell off the sofa laughing at the whole "dim sum"/chicken feet scene - I had to rewind the DVR to watch it twice. And I kept thinking how difficult it is to find a place that's even open for dim sum for dinner. So I laughed even harder when I then read my Twitter feed, and someone had retweeted that the best way to get dim sum for dinner is by visiting @dimsumtruck! :)
Oh, and the husband was THRILLED to see the preview for the Rocky Horror episode!
Now off to find out what's up with Mark Salling.

I thought in the Rachel/Finn "With You I'm Born Again" duet she was supposed to be a Catholic school girl and he was a priest, thus the offense. I didn't get that she was a nun. At least not in the outfit she was wearing.
Yeah, you could definitely tell Rachel was channeling her Babs Streisand, especially the way she was dressed, since Babs wore something similar on the TV show back in the 60's, when she sang "Happy Days are Here Again" so slow. I remember when I was growing up and saw/heard it the first time, I thought it was really weird that she was singing it so slow, but as I got older, I realized why she did it that way. Tho Kurt sang "C'mon Get Happy", made famous by Judy Garland, he wasn't wearing anything like her outfits when he sang it.
There's an article with photos in the new TV Guide we received in today's mail, all about Glee's take on "Rocky Horror" and who's playing which part or parts. It seems fitting for a Halloween episode. Even John Stamos gets to strut his stuff, as the character Meatloaf played in the movie!

We have a copy of Rocky Horror, and, a couple of years ago we let the kids see the Time Warp, but nothing else from the movie. My daughter, and a neighbor even dressed up as Rocky Horror characters for Halloween (trying to get my daughter's straight brown hair red and frizzy was a challenge). Last night she asked what the movie was rated, and I said she could see it before the Glee show airs. There's nothing really all that graphic in it, and a few of the references will go over her head. The blond kid will be the perfect Rocky.
I also laughed at the interaction of the two Asian kids. Not only is dim sum specifically a lunch thing, but I've never seen salad served in a dim sum restaurant. Did you get his reference to Asian couples counseling?
OT, but I saw the social network the other day, and laughed at the scene at the "Jewish fraternity," when the boys all wanted to date the Asian girls hanging out there, because they are "pretty, smart, and not Jewish." I thought of my daughters, and several other Asian kids I know, adopted by Jewish families, and thought "don't bet on it."
I love the elaborate production numbers, that come out of nowhere, and, particularly Kurt's performances last night. I also love his father-if every gay kid struggling with his/her identity had parents like him, they would be much better off.

Hmmm, well, I'll admit I know nothing about Catholic school girls - or nuns for that matter! I think I assumed Rachel was supposed to be - and I don't know the actual word for it - a nun who wasn't a full-fledged nun yet, one who was still on the path but hadn't fully committed yet.

I will probably watch the next episode, but I really am not into Rocky Horror at all. Maybe I'll just watch the Brittany episode again.

Just watched...loving Quinn/Sam together. A great song choice for both of them. In other Sam news, I think he's had his shirt off more than on this episode. Not that I'm complaining. ;)
Still miss Puck though.
First episode this season that I've really liked as much as last season. Yay! :)
