Ok, only 25 days away and I'm contemplating a treat for DH, so I'm wondering if anyone has ever order a personal cake from the Cake Hotline? We have quite a few places we're going for TS (in fact, I'm starting to rethink some of these, but that's another post!), but I'm thinking a small, personalized cake for our anniversary would be a nice touch. Whose done it, and were you able to get something special on it (like a mini chocolate castle)? How about cost? Which place would you think it would be better at - Cinderella's Castle, Biergarten (both on our anniversary date), or Restaurant Makarresh or Le Cellier (not on our date but more relaxed setting).
Thanks!

I have done it, but it was in 2005, so I'm sure there's been a few changes since then. We got an 8" small b-day cake. 2 layers. chocolate on chocolate, with "Happy 3rd Birthday Mikey" on it. Yes, they were able to write all of that on there somehow! They sprinkled Mickey heads all over it. Very cute.
It was pricey--$30--but it was great. The flavor was just ok--pretty much what you would get at WalMart or Target's bakery.
Back then, you ordered through the florist, but not I think they have their own site and are much more customizable. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again if it was a special occasion, though! Go for it!

Thanks Tina!
I imagine it has changed quite a bit. I found something I think DH would get a kick out, but with it only being us, I don't know if they'll be able to do something similar on a 6-inch cake (the smallest they will customize, from what I understand - hopefully I uploaded the photo here correctly!). DH never had "a crumb" of carrot cake at our wedding and it's been a running joke now for 12 years. So if I'm going to do this, it has to be carrot!
The other thing is if I do this, I probably should have it delivered to our room at Poly. I was really contemplating the restaurants I listed, but I'm afraid we'll be so stuffed we won't want to eat, plus the logistics of lugging it back our room doesn't thrill me.
Anyone like the cake idea? ;)

Here's what I initially wanted, either this or the castle one (which is really beautiful), but both of these would be more for me (although DH would think MM was cool). Plus, since he would like us to renew our vows at either DL or Aulani Resort in three years, maybe that castle cake might be a reality someday.

i say got for it. even if its the two of you, having it for breakfast a couple days or dessert after a long day at the parks would be nice. :)
my story -- i had ordered the mickey head shaped cake last jan for my DH's bday. there were about 6 of us on that trip total - all adults, so we could have put a decent dent into the cake b/t all of us :)
but here's what happened and i laugh about it cuz it worked out in the end anyway. but i ordered the cake via phone. i think they had JUST moved to their own line/reservations system. i had an order number, all the details, etc. once everything was said and done.
we ate at the polynesian for their almost all you can eat meat fest. (5 large adults and a small me it made sense lol). i asked about the cake before we sat down - it was supposed to be a surprise. they said they'll inquire about it since i had a res number, etc. they come back later on and take me to a corner since it was supposed to be a surprise. they tell me they cant find the res number nor do they have this cake waiting around. since it was a special cake they have to create beforehand, they dont have "spares" lying around the bakery hehe.
so i'm dissappointed but i know its not totally their fault. they said it got lost in the computer system since it was a new system they were using. again, i was dissappointed but since DH didnt even know about it, no harm would be done and just being there at disney for his bday and going to polynesian like he wanted to, was enough for us... we know things dont always go as planned and we just go with the flow (at least as far as disney is concerned...)
anyway, later on the chef comes out himself to apologize for the confusion and the mixup. and says he'll create something for us! so sure enough when dessert time came, he brought out, personally, (without charging me any dessert or cake prices), tempura battered bananas smothered in ice cream, chocolate sauce, whipped cream and mickey shaped sprinkles, along with long slender candles lit up for DH. it turned out to be more special for us that they did that instead.
would i have liked the cake i ordered, well sure. but things happen. so we got something no one else got in the place instead and DH was definitely grateful for that feast, especially since he hadnt known what had happened anyway... and he absolutely loved that because they technically messed up, they fixed the situation with something no one else got. he loved it...
we're going again next jan around his bday again and i might try to order the cake again and hope it comes this time lol. and if not, i know it will be ok either way.
i think since last jan they have probably fixed the issues and i dont forsee them having too many problems now :)

Did they credit your credit card for the amount you'd paid for the cake upfront? (Or is it a 'pay for the cake with your meal' situation?)

A cake was ordered for our meal at Flying Fish, and it was charged on the check even though a credit card was required to reserve it. We had the basic 6" round with chocolate cake and chocolate frosting. It was pretty good, but pretty rich for me. We had 6 slices out of it, and that was plenty considering what we had already eaten.

you just reserve with credit card. at the time i dont know if they said it will be on the tab like stan4d_steph mentioned happened to her or if it would be charged on credit card but either way it wasnt going to get charged til it was delivered... so thats not a big deal :)
and they didnt charge us anything for the dessert they did bring... so again, awesome disney customer service... =)

Is there somewhere I can see samples of these celebration cakes and their prices? We'll be dining at WC on DS3's 4th birthday.

All I could find on the WDW site was the fact that you call the dining line to order them. (found that under "things to do" - "Celebrate your special occasions".)
