On property:

At DL....waste of $.

At WDW....an absolute MUST.

But that's just my opinion :)

I feel the opposite.

At DL It is an absolute must to me because you are right there in the middle of the magic.

At WDW, travel is always involved no matter what resort you choose. I still like on property at WDW, but something like the Gaylord Palms is nearly the same experience, driving from park to park.

I completely disagree...and I hear story after story of DLH stays not being very magical. (Adrienne, can we have the oatmeal story again please?)

I can do several more days in the park, more character meals, more crap at the emporium, if I stay at the Hojo with its five minute walk out of the park (counting the time you actually leave disney property to arriving at the Hojo).

I know nothing about WDW, so I cant comment there.

So do you think that they will have any other special offers for the Fall/Christmas season, or will that be it? I love to stay on property (but usually just too expensive) but our current ressies at the Fairfield Inn are much better. I was hoping for a special on the Good Neighbor hotels. Do you think they will come out with anything else besides this or am I just wishful thinking?

I have never been able to get a better rate on a GNH than I could on my own.

So, maybe you guys can give me some perspective on my current dilemma. Stayed at HoJo several times and love proximity to DL front gate and Mimis. I have reservations for October for HoJo with AP rates. The current fall special quotes PP for the same price. If we've never stayed onsite, is it worth it to do it this time for the same rate as HoJo? We have 2 kids (aged 8 and 11). Would the atmosphere onsite be pretty cool for them, or should I just stick with HoJo? Thanks in advance for any help.

I would stick with Hojo, but that is just me. Remember at PP you have to walk through the DLH and to the monorail station, or if the line is a mile long, all the way to the front gate. Yes yes, you can get packages delivered to your room, but to me, I just dont see how you can beat the Hojo. But then again, I have never stayed at the PPH.

Remember, if I am not mistaken the quote rates dont include the "resort fees" and tax...

Just my two cents, someone will now post something about the Disney Magic, and thats true too, good to get both sides / opinions!!!

We have stayed at the HoJo ten times and enjoyed every visit. The staff are great, the grounds are well-kept, the rooms have always been clean and comfortable, and the water play area is a big hit for my kids. Even so, it's fun to try something else once in a while, and to my mind the best time to do that is when you can't get a better price on what you're used to. If the room rate is really the same between the two hotels, then the tax rate will also be the same. The difference is that you will pay $13.80 per night additional in resort fees, so that will make Paradise Pier more expensive. That's probably about as close as you're going to get though to having the rates be the same, so if you want a chance to stay "on property", this would be the best time to do it. Then stay at HoJo sometime again in the future when the price difference is greater.

One major disadvantage for me would be NOT having Mimi's and McDonalds. The meals and snacks at PPH are higher. The walking distances are about the same. The $13.80 a day for parking might make a difference too. I personally am not a fan of the onsite hotels though.

At near the same price, I would go for it just to have the experience.

I have never found the prices even for PP to be competitive with off-site options. Are you sure you are getting the best HOJO rate available? Might be worth a call.....

LOL, I'm a PPH fan. Love the hotel and the entrance to DCA inside the GCH. You have to walk past the DLH to get to the monorail or through the GCH to make a "short cut" past the WOD to the main gates.

Which is great for getting soaked on GRR and having a short walk to the hotel for dry clothes!:fez:

We get a view room, open the curtains and have a great view of DCA all night long! With mickey's wheel and the pier all light up. Very pretty.

Plus We are night owls and it's fun to watch some of the night activities going on in DCA.
Used to have a great view of GRR in the morning .Doing it's morning run through, but the darn new DVC is blocking that now.:|

Now you have to ask for a upper level view room, which costs more, but to us it's worth it.

If it's reg view, then you see the parking lot and a nice view of the pool and the city. Which if the day is really clear is a nice view too.

I do like getting to send the packages back to the room, nice perk, the EE and the last ride of the day back on the monorail.

We tend to eat on site and bring snacks with us. So Mimi's and mickey D's is not on our list. Dh hates both places. (sorry Mal!:crying:)

If we eat of prop. it's usually the crab shack with local friends or olive garden. But you have to drive to those.

The nice thing is the roof pool , if the fireworks are on for the night . It's a nice little spot to watch them. Not the greatest view , but the music is piped in so that's a nice touch.

It's a pretty plain hotel for DL, but we enjoy staying there. We did stay at Hojo once, Dh and the kids really didn't enjoy that too much.

We only get to go maybe once a year, so for us we want to stay buried in the whole "Disney" thing!

I really do love the walk, through DTD or the GCH to end the evening. You just feel like Awww what a great day in the end.

Now I do have to add that we are farmers so we WALK every where we go. SO if your not into the hiking thing with little kids Hojo might be better.

it's the same distance, but I think the DL entrance is closer to Hojo's? Didn't seem like it at the time, but that's just me.

I deffer to Mal as the expert on that!

Now the PPH rooms have nice beds, my DD 11, says they are the softest.LOL we have tried all 3 of the hotels and my kids pick PPH every time.

The room has a chair and a small table to eat at, plus a couch that makes into a bed. My DS 7 claims that every time. Silly boy.

There is a nice bath room with tub/shower combo, hair dryer. Stanard stuff. Cute sundries though with mickey ears on top.:D

We get 2 queen beds, they have a pack n play pen if you need it. Ironing borad and iron, a coded safe(small one) a T.V. cabinet with places for your stuff. A mini frig. too.

No VCR's in the room unless you upgrade the room. Which would defect the purpose of HOJo's.

Nice thing is the huge parking garage right out back. I know you pay the resort fee of 13.50 for parking , paper etc. but for us it's nice to have. No real fighting for parking during the day or night.

Down side is the elevators in the morning and at night. They only have 2 and up glass one that goes up only. SO that can get really crowded and make for a long wait at 8 in the morning. The hotel sercurity, helps out in the mornings and at night by overriding the up only one to make it both ways.

If you stay there a lot like us, you learn the times to skip to get in or out fast.

Now they do have this really really cute cartoon room too! With all the old mickey cartoons playing. It looks like your at the beach with the deck chairs and all. Fun place to wait if the elavortors are busy!;)

There is a lobby area with a sandwhich /snack place to get hot coco, coffee etc. at. They have a lounge area with a big screen and couches that are nice to kick back at.

they have a guest use microwave there too. Plus a little bar and dining option in the same area.

Mickey's beach bash ...I think that's the new name is in PPH too. Kids loved Lilo's so they will want to try this one too. We have not tried it just yet, looked like fun.

You get a paper in the morning. Which is no biggie unless you really need one.

I say if you have never stayed on prop. and the extra 13.50 over Hojo's is not that big an issue and other then that it's the same price then I'd might try the PPH.

So that's my very very long 2 cents worth on the PPH.

Now I am baised with the PPH, we call it our second home!;):D

Darn now I'm "home sick" for DL. LOL!:p

I hope this helps out some from a long time PPH fan.( 6 yrs worth of stays there)

(P.S. so sorry for all the spelling errors the spell check is not working)

Thanks for all the good advice. A couple more questions: Does PPH have mini fridges in the room for keeping snacks? Also, if I have a current reservation at HoJo, are they going to quote me anything lower if I call? I booked on their website using lnap code and was given the price of $520 for 4 nights (Oct. 14-18). So, with our 4 day park hoppers (including one deluxe AP) total is over $1400. Disneyland.com quoted me $1465 for the same nights and 4-day park hoppers. Does anyone have any better discount codes for HoJo that I don't know about? All this help is really appreciated! Kids haven't been to DL in several years and we're going to completely surprise them the day we drive to the airport.

What happens when you look at a package for HoJo vs a package for PPH?

Your husband likes Olive Garden, but not McDonalds or Mimi's? ? ? ?

And a kid who doesnt like castaway cove?

For some reason those just stuck out at me in your post...very strange, but hey, everyone is different I suppose!

And I have never had to fight for parking at Hojo, the lot is quite big actually, and FREE.

I dont have the numbers, but I guarantee you that the Hojo is closer to the front gate than DLH....you are just more distracted when walking through DTD vs. Harbor blvd.

Thank you for the long post on all the advantages of the PPH, I just dont see them as making me want to pay what is usually way more vs. the hojo, but it gave some nice tips!

I dont have the numbers, but I guarantee you that the Hojo is closer to the front gate than DLH....you are just more distracted when walking through DTD vs. Harbor blvd.Actually, the distance from the turnstiles to Hojo's is .72 and from turnstiles to PPH is .73. So, distance wise, they are the same.

But, I do love Mimi's and it is a definite advantage to me!!

As for the price, I have $511 for the 4 nights, it is a busy weekend and it is sold out for the entertainment rate.

Your welcome. We just tend to enjoy PPH more that's all.

Twindaddy...I totally understand the save on one to spend in the park $$.

The kids like McDonald's, but DH and I ate way too much of it in college so tend not to eat there much anymore.

Not a big Mimi's fan, can't really explain it , just not our cup of tea I guess.

Kids and the DH eat salads and soup at Olive Garden, I get the pasta.:D

The kids enjoyed the cove, but to them they just like the simple slide at the pier and the pool/hot tub in the evening.

They have their own POTC paint ball Field at home to play at and a "swiss family/POTC playhouse with slide that they hang out in too. (we built all of it ourselves) So I guess it's more of a change of pace for them.

I'm sure it is longer to the entrance from the PPH, we are just walkers so it never seems that long. Plus we cut into DCA a lot. It's our favorite way to get to DL.LOL!

We hit the rides on the way to the main gate, then take pics at the CA sign. Then we wonder over to DL.

I know weird family.;):p

For people that get to generally go NOWHERE during the year, PPH and DL for 5-6 days is our big treat! . We farm for a living and start planting in the end of Nov. with the Harvest ending in Oct. so not a big window to get play time in.

I am staying at HOJO in Feb for a girls weekend!:D

No Lorealle or Hojo ;-(

Used to be. We stayed at the Hojo's in what was the WDW Village. It was great as the walk was les than 10 minutes to Buena Vista Lake. Had dinner on the Lily Belle and at Capt. Jacks. Must have been 1988 or so...The Hojos is now now the Holiday Inn.

The pre-Pan Pacific / Paradise pier was called the Emerald. We would always ask for the "O2" rooms. They were on an angle and smoke free rooms ( before the smoking ban ) As I recall, the rate was about $89/nite ( 1991 dollars )

Very much a Hojo regular now. It's almost like the 4th but unofficial property.

The new fall promotion for staying at a resort hotel is awesome right now! We already had booked our trip and paid the deposit two and a half weeks ago. We originally were staying at Paradise Pier for 3 nights in October. Just out of curiosity, I called the reservation help line to see if I could apply the new promotion rates to my reservation. With the discounted rate, we were able to switch from staying at Paradise Pier to Grand California for only $20.00 more per day!! I couldn't believe it!! :)

Re the title of this thread.

Has someone already made a pun combing this thread with the thread about the drunk who fell down in the Tower of Terror queue?

I.e., the drunk probably "got a great fall rate," too! :~D

Or, "a great rate of fall"! :~D
