Apparently, there was a situation yesterday in which a female was using someone else's AP to enter the park. When the lead was called and confiscated the AP, as he headed back to the office, the female lost control and slapped the CM. Security was there and restrained her and she was arrested by APD.
Ah, the Happiest Place on Earth...hope the CM is ok. What a joke. If you want to take the risk then fine, but don't get physical when it doesn't work!

It's entitlement behavior like this that makes me shake my head when people cheat systems with their kids and say that it's totally fine and they're completely ok with the lessons they're modeling for their children.

Good points...not to derail completely, but do you/we think any of this comes from the "everyone gets a trophy / dont keep score" mentality that seems to be pervasive these days. I DESERVE (fill in the blank here)...

It might but then look at the parents who are at the competitive games screaming at referees and wanting their kids to win. They don't want everyone to win, but they're all entitled for themselves.
I DO think that the entitlement issue such as this one has a lot to do with fighting the big mean faceless corporation. Now before I get going too far, I'm going to put in a few disclaimers. I think there are multiple groups of people:
1- Those who don't realize that sharing tickets is a violation of the terms of the tickets and are looking for a good deal.
2- Those who probably realize it but would rather not think about it because really, who is it hurting? And gee, stuff is really expensive these days we have to cut corners where we can.
3- People who know it's a violation and, frankly, feel pretty proud of the fact that they've figured out a way to get around the policies. They think the rest of the world is not as clever as they are and would rather go out of their way to cheat the system to save a few bucks.
I personally know of people in all three groups so I'm not going out too far on a limb to say they exist.
But in every case, these people look at great big Disney charging so much money and gosh, it just doesn't seem quite fair that it's so hard for the "little guy" to afford what they *want* to afford and so they're going to do what they're going to do. Some do it with a lot more foresight. Some feel bad about it others don't. Some will think better of it.
But I see it in lots of different places. I want it, I don't want to have to wait for it, I shouldn't have to, I deserve it!

I DESERVE (fill in the blank here)...Nope, not really. I think it is like AdK said, more of a "Us against the big conglomerate." You don't see it in the kids, but in the parents usually. The parents then instill it in the kids as the grow older and see their parents modeling the behavior.
I think the "everyone gets a trophy" "mentality" has a place, especially in beginners. I work with kids in a situation where "everyone gets a trophy." It is a big motivator to keep going and trying and learning. In every area I know of where there is a "everyone gets a trophy", it is usually for a short time. (Beginners or an under a certain age, where the person is learning the sport. Once they reach pass that stage, they move up to the divisions where they do get scored.)
I don't think it attributes to this particular issue, personally.

Fair enough. I am not talking about kids with special needs, or the very young (like t-ball, ECT), but I read too many stories about schools doing away with awards and valedictorians because they dont want to hurt feelings. We are probably talking about different issues here, but I think kids need to be taught how to win and loose, with grace and dignity, because lets face it, life is full of failure, you just have to learn how to pick yourself up and go on.

However, the situations we are discussing, are adults, who feel they can take what they want because Disney is a big business, and in their view, Disney is making too much money/costs too much, so they don't feel bad about stealing a ticket/seats at a hotel pool/cheating on height/fudging on a kids age/etc... Kids watch this behavior, and learn from it. My favorite example is my nephew. My brother didn't want to pay the $5 to get him into some place and 5 and under was free. He initially told my nephew to just say he was five, but my nephew commented he didn't like lying. So, my brother told him not to say anything and he would handle it. When they passed through the turnstile, the security guard joked to my nephew "You look older than 5." My nephew looked worried, and my 5yo niece told the guard "He is 6, but they said to say he was five so he could get in free."
Interestingly, my brother and stepdad thought it was funny. My sisters and I were appalled that they thought it was ok to teach the kids this.
The person in this incident was upset that the pass she was using was confiscated. She slapped the older gentleman hard enough she broke his earpiece. She wasn't a child, she was an adult. She just felt is was fair to cheat Disney and was angry she got caught.

Wow, if someone slapped me that hard, I would have a hard time not decking them. Hope the guy is OK.

Between my husband and I we only put parking on one pass. And since we always try to choose the shortest lane, the person handing the pass isn't always the person with parking on their pass. One attendant, who made more of an effort than most to confirm that the passholder was in the car, indicated that he confiscated a lot of annual passes based on attempts to cheat the parking fee. And this was before it costs the $15 it does now.

Woah woah woah. She hit a guy over 70?!? For the love!
In this thread I think we've established 2 things:
1. The majority feel that it's ethically shady to transfer passes, but it's a personal choice that people make.
2. Doing so is a gamble you take at your own risk.
Now lets imagine this woman likes to go to Vegas. Does she hit the dealer when she loses a hand at the card table? I don't see what she did to this CM as much different--she took a gamble and she lost. I mean really, the idea that you can physically assault someone when you don't get your way (whether you're in the right or the wrong) is just ludicrous.
Even if it WAS her own AP and she'd dyed her hair and waxed her eyebrows off or something so they couldn't recognize her right away doesn't give her the right to hit someone!

I hope she gets the maximum fine/sentence for that assault. To me, It's just extra wrong to hit an older person.

I think the big difference is that in Vegas, you don't necessarily expect to not lose (all odds are against you). And people lose all the time, so it's not such a big deal. I was just at the Encore in Vegas, and saw a guy with a big stack of $500(!) chips lose almost all of it at the blackjack table. At Disneyland, it's a big embarrassment when you lose.

Difference, yes. But if you're going to be so embarrassed that you feel the need to hit someone then perhaps you shouldn't be taking the risk!

I think it's fair to say the person who hit one of the elderly had some issues. Whether they were of entitlement or just bad manners, GEEZ.

Sorry, after I posted, I reread my post and it may have looked like I was making an excuse for her. I am definitely not making any excuses for her behavior. I agree, she has no reason whatsoever to hit the CM.

I hope she is charged (with assault) to the full extent of the law!

I saw the entire incident on Sunday when the CM was hit. I was standing outside of the restrooms directly inside of the gates at DCA when I saw a lady screaming and waving her hands at a CM who was rushing towards a CM only door. The CM kept asking her to "please step back and move away from me," but she was getting more and more agitated. She was screaming really loudly at him (completely unintelligible) and then started hitting his head and ripping at his earpiece and shirt. He pushed her back and said "stop" and ran away. Another gentleman came up from behind the woman and started screaming at her in a foreign language and pulling her toward the from gate. The CM ran over to security and they quickly detained the lady and the gentleman she was with. There appeared to be two more people directly outside of the gate who were part of her party talking to security. The CM then ran to the CM only door and disappeared.
My jaw hit the floor and I was just shocked...I don't expect to see people assaulting others regularly, but I really didn't expect to see it at Disneyland!

Wow, thanks for the eye witness report. I would have alot of trouble not using some of the insticts I have developed working in law enforcment, and putting the "lady" on her tush in a way she might not like. Hitting anyone is wrong, but doing it to a Disney employee that cant really fight back, over a ticket issue, and to top it off its an older gentlemen, I would have had to step in.
Hope karma will revist her soon...

I wish you had been standing outside of the restrooms waiting and done something, because I think everyone else who saw the incident go down (myself included) was in so much shock that we couldn't move because our eyes couldn't connect what we were seeing with reality.

Not to sound conceited, but working in corrections like I do, thats the first thing they teach you. REACT, do something, jump up and down, yell stop, bark like a dog, just DONT stand there while an emergency is happening. The first fight I ever responded to seemed to be in slow motion, the experienced staff around me were handling it before I even could process what happened. Now, I have my pepper spray out and am hosing them before I even realize it.
Just glad to hear the gentlemen wasnt hurt...

I learned that in my CPR and First Aid classes too. If you end up reacting to something that doesn't emd up being an emergency then it is better safe than sorry
