And there is the example that I missed of someone saying it is OK to do this.
You beat me to it, I was thinking the same thing. I was trying to remember why I got up on the soapbox / high horse, and posts like that being so gleeful are exactly why.

It's official! I saw my first confiscated tickets this past Saturday.
A man with an infant tried to present two adult multi-day parkhoppers to enter DCA.
Duh signal #1: infants don't need tickets! (I hate to think how much he spent on that one.)
The tickets had zero days left on them. (Well...maybe I don't hate to think about it after all. If you try to pull a fast one, you should understand the potential consequences.)
He tried to explain for about a minute that his parents had bought the tickets and then given them to him; also that they were still good and had several days use on them.
The lead explained what "nontransferable" means very briefly and said there was no way he'd be getting in the park. (She was nice, but to the point.)
He left.
Crime (fraud, immoral behavior, however you want to label it) doesn't pay.

Thanks for reporting in! Did you get the impression he could go buy a ticket, or was it a "get the heck out of here" kind of interaction...

Hmm. They didn't chase him off or anything. I think he could have bought a ticket. The lead just made it clear he couldn't get in with the ones he had—she kept those.
He went off without a whimper so I think he had some idea what was going on.

is it illegal if you just give them away? I've done this at other theme parks (not Disney because we often go all the days of our passes) where as we left and knew we were not coming back we just gave away our tickets to people who hadn't purchased theirs yet.

Technically as far as Disney is concerned all tickets are non transferable once they've been used the first time. So even if you have a day or two left and you give them to a stranger and they use the last day or two then try to upgrade them to an annual pass that would be violating the contract of the ticket since they weren't the original ticket holder. Actually it's a violation even if they just use the days you had left ... Clear as mud?

What about fastpasses? I give them away pretty much anytime I realize I wont be using them...its amazing how many people look at me and say "what are those?" and I end up explaining fast passes to them.

Giving the fastpasses away is different, I don't have one in hand but I don't think they say non transferable. You can't sell them but giving them away is fine, kind of a 'making someones trip more magical' kind of thing. I've been known to use our passes to get FP for friends that will be in the park later in the day for attractions we can't ride.

It just so happens that I found some old FP's while unpacking, and your roused my curiosity... Technically they do say "nontransferable" on the back at the bottom. and in a bit larger lettering they say NOT FOR SALE. I have been been known to give away a FP or two in my day, we gave away plenty of Dream FP's before we knew we could use them on another day, I wonder if those were nontransferable too? I'll have to check. I've also taken a FP that has been offered to me....:eek:

I really think the issue is money...you buy a pass, resell it, disney loses out on a ticket sale. Fast pass they aren't losing any income and as long as you don't try to profit off them I see that as falling under the same kind of issue as them honoring them anytime after they mature and not just in the 'window' printed on the ticket.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, it's probably something they HAVE to put on there. it also says they cant accept early arrivals, but nothing about late arrivals. it does say to arrive between the times noted on the other side. Funny I had never read the back of a FP's before. My life has gotten really boring! haha!

I saw a guest with an Indy fast pass he couldn't use give it to a CM at the entrance and ask that it be given to someone that could use it, and he did just that.

That sounds like a really cool thing to do.

We've given out FPs several times. My favorite was SMGG FPs Halloween weekend. We were heading to MToTP at DCA and gave a mom & daughter in the DL line 6 FPs! The FPs sold out around 2 pm that day and the stand by wait was 2 hours!!

Was leaving the park around 1pm one day and had 4 Buzz Lighyear's Astro Blasters FPs for between 10:30 and 11:30am to give away .... handed them to a lady who had a little girl and an older couple with her. She looked at me as if to say "Thanks a lot for the expired passes."
I quickly explained to her they're good all day after they mature; not only was she unappreciative, she was argumentative about wether they were still redeemable, as if I was making it all up.
The conversation was surreal. I think I told her to ask a cast member if she didn't believe me turned and walked outta there.
But yeah as twindaddy or someone mentioned, I'm often intrigued by the sheer number of people who are unaware fastpasses exist.

My DH's coworker thought you had to pay for FPs. If only he'd known... :)
We give them away routinely. Because A) they don't cost us anything and B) we don't sell them. It's fun to brighten someone's day a little.

We often give ours away but due to some of the general confusion note above, we try to eyeball someone who looks like they've been to the park before. Then we throw in the "they are still good" explanation.
No turn downs thus far but I think we got an odd look once.

Maybe thats the source of some of the odd looks I get, because they are past the end time, but we all around here know they are still good.
I have had to explain the entire procedure, or just remind people they are still good. Perhaps I should keep a look out for Disney pro's and just give them to them..

Good question...not really sure on that one, I guess you just know it when you see it. Maybe someone with alot of pins or an AP around their neck? But then again, they probably dont need it. Who knows

They don't hesitate; they aren't staring at a map; basically, no confused unfocused glazed look.

Good one...glazed = will have to explain what a fastpass is

I wouldn't buy the tickets if their on ebay or craiglists because you don't know if they have been used completely

I agree, no hesitation is a sign of someone who knows the fastpass system. I had a couple of extra fastpasses for Test Track a couple of months ago, so I went to the end of the regular line to ask if anyone wants them. A couple immediately comes over, grabs our passes, and heads straight for the fastpass line.

LOL. We usually give ours away at the park entrance/exit. I'm sure it would be easier to find someone who knew what they were at the attraction itself but if we are leaving with unused passes it's usually because we are too tired to make it back there. :)
