After doing the preferred dining option on opening night of WoC, we did the picnic thing last night for the first show. From what I had been told, picnic fastpasses would only be yellow or blue. We got blue, and were initially excited because we were in the blue section last time as well...then we discovered that there are 2 blue sections. Preferred dining gets a different blue section than picnic/regular fastpass holders. I distinctly remember people in our section on opening night telling us how they had camped out all morning to get their fastpasses, but maybe something has changed since then (either that, or the first night crowd control wasn't great).

Anyway, we picked up our meals with very little wait around 6pm. We found a table in the area right by the pickup counter. As many have posted, we were told to go to the viewing area at 7:30, and of course we went around 7. Having seen the CMs let people in around 7:15 on opening night, we didn't want to be late. We had specifically hoped to be in the same spot we were before, but then we found out that was a different section. Still, we found a great spot up against the walkway just up from the waterside area, and a little to the left of center. I stand by my claim that a spot next to a walkway is one of the better spots, since at least no one will be standing directly in front of you.

Cast members let us sit until 8pm, then we had to stand. For the most part, viewing was good. My only complaint was the dad who had a 6-7 year old girl on his shoulders in the section directly in front of us. Basically, she was right in the middle of my view the entire show. Oh well. After the show was over, we saw a huge puddle forming in one of the other sections, and we later found out that the later show(s) had been cancelled due to a "broken water main." I guess we got lucky!

You bring your picnic confirmations to the picnic area.

Actually, I wouldn't suggest that my experience is in tune with a lot of other peoples. We were really able to waltz in fairly late (7pm), get food and not wait that long to see the show.

It looks like (based on what other posts are saying) that we lucked out by going to see the show on the date/time that we did....

Thank you Mark for the info! We're very excited to see WOC.

I had to bring my printed email confirmation letter, my ID, and my credit card to pick up my lunch box dinner. The meal was delicious and fun...the whole thing is packed in a souvenir tote bag. Really cool!

Awesome! That's what we were hoping for! Thank you Coronado.

Sophie,

What did you bring with you to pick up your picnic meals? My e-mail just has a confirmation number and no bar code. An earlier post mentioned a barcode on a printout. My e-mail doesn't have one.
Where you required to show your ID and Credit Card to confirm?

Thanks in advance.

Just a quick heads up for everyone picking up picnic meals, double check the reserved passes you get with your meal to make sure they are all in the same section. When I initially received mine I found that 2 were in the yellow section and the rest were in the blue section. I also discovered later that I had been shorted a pass, so make sure you have a pass for each meal.

I went back to the people I picked up the meal from and they were very accommodating, but I could have been out of luck! It may seem obvious but we had a group of 7 (three of whom we added to our party at various points throughout the day) so there were lots of things for me to keep straight in my head.

I will also reiterate that standing closer to the railing is your best option. I ended up moving back in the section (Blue) so I could get a better view for my 6 year old that I was holding. I also moved back so my wife get infront of me so my 3 year old could see. And be mindful of the round lamps around the viewing area. I found that these obstructed our view as the show started. It all worked out, but I feel much better equipped for how to approach viewing next time.

We picked up our pre-ordered picnics last Sunday at about 4:30 pm. I just had to show the e-mail confirmation and sign a receipt. In case it matters, we picked up at the far right station and received Yellow. We got 3 All Americans and one of each of the others and the only person who was not happy with his choice was the one who got the salmon (too fishy). We ate at the tables near the pickup location and then stayed to watch the parade.

After usign FP to ride Soarin', we made our way to the west side barricades just before 7. They let the east side in first. After squeeezing through the hole in the barricade, we made our way to our Yelloew Section, and then down to the Wet Zone. While the center Yellow Wet Zone was already full along the rail, the area further east, next to Blue, was empty, as in no one there at all. The Blue area next to us was already completely full with a full line of bodies starting at the rail and stretching back along the yellow/blue dividing rope to the rope that divided the viewing are from the walkway.

We were able to sit (and even lay down) until the pre-show and even after the pre-show, as the area wasn't that crowded. Some of our group started watching the show while seated at the rail, but ended up standing to see better. We all had ponchos or rain jackets and would have otherwise gotten wet, although not drenched.

Everyone in our group gave it a big thumbs up. We also watched it from our balcony at VGC the next night, where the view was not nearly as good, but the show was still enjoyable. -- Suzanne

my daughter and her boyfriend are going next week and wanted to get two picnic meals for the 1st show. Well, I'm not going but I'm the pass holder and would buy the meals online. Does it work that she brings the email confirmation and she signs - or are these meals considered "non-transferable"?

I don't recall, but after you log in can she pay with her name and credit card? The instructions said that you needed the credit card used to pay and an ID. I was not asked for either, but I would hate for her to have problems if you weren't there. If the payment is in her name then you wouldn't have problem.

well, it's sold out now for their date anyway. Next question...

if they buy the meals same day (i know, if any are left) at 1130am do they have to take them right away or can they come back for them?

If you purchase on the same day, you have to take the meal with you at the time of purchase.

Alrighty, new question. I just ordered four picnics for 7/17. I went through the online process, and all it gives me is the discounted AP price, but my AP expired last March. There was no way for me to change the pricing option and I didn't see an easy way of changing my status from an AP to non-AP. I didn't want to wait and call because I'm worried about them selling out, so I went ahead and purchased at the price it gave me, 12.99 a box.

I'd like to pay the amount I'm supposed to pay. Will I be able to do that when I pick up the boxes? Do I need to call and get it recharged before I get there? My fear is that when I show up without an AP they won't let me pay the difference and then won't give me my fastpasses!

We had somewhat of the same issue. Our APs expired in April, but the dining package booked at the AP rate since I was logged in. We actually purchased an AP on the trip, but I never had to show anything other than my confirmation e-mail. You should be fine! -- Suzanne

They did when my brother bought them in June.

When I got my picnic meal as a walk-up on the second weekend of the show, it came with the tote bag as well.

Thank you Malcon10t and cstephens. Now I just have to hope they have meals we'd like available.

Make sure you look at the different meals available and hopefully, there are a couple you would like or at least wouldn't mind. My first choice (the anti-pasto) was sold out when I was there, so I got my second choice, which was the Asian meal. Overall, I liked it - the dessert wasn't quite to my taste, but that was it.

I don't think they sell out that quickly, unless it's a very busy day. All the picnic meals were sold out the last time I tried, but that was Friday right before the Fourth of July holiday, so that wasn't too surprising. Also note that for same-day picnic meal purchases, you have to take the meals with you at the time of purchase (as opposed to the pre-sale option which gives you a window of time when you can pick up the meals).

Have a great time!

I've been told the walk-up picnic meals have sold out every night so far, though sometimes it's not until shortly before the show. They've started opening the pick up counter at 11:30, so the earlier you arrive, the better your chance of receiving the meal you want. I've seen lines at 11:30 on a Thursday, and I've seen the place completely deserted at 11:30 on a Sunday - it just depends on the crowds, I guess.

Thanks AVP! We plan on being in line around 11, or at least one of will be. The other will take the kids on rides in the area.
