How "small"? You can bring laptops, iPods, Walkmans, etc.. We aren't talking about a 13" TV, right?
oh no lol...just a small one...7 inch screen...so i guess we'd be ok to do that :)

Hi,
My group has had a last minute change of plans, and we may try to see WOC on June 28th. Can you clarify the situation for me, as it stands now.
I tried to order a picnic meal online, but they appear to be sold out through July. Is that correct?
So then I understand that there are a few picnic meals available through the walk up window each day. True? Can you go at park opening and pick that up, or is that a certain time that they open up for business? Are those going like hotcakes, or is it reasonable to think you can score a couple for the first show? (We have a little one, and would have to do the first show.) Where is the pick up window in the park?
How early are people lining up to go in? I read here that another option, rather than squeezing to the front, is to head up higher in the viewing area. A perfect view isn't required, we'd rather have a little space for my 3 year old son to move around during waiting time, but my mom is short. Can she stand on a bench or something?
Thanks, as always, for all your help, MPers! :-)

If the website shows that they're sold out for online purchase, then yes, they're sold out for online purchase.

They do not generally have picnic meals for purchase on the day of for the first show. If there were some spaces left, they might, but if the online sales are already sold out, I would expect that would mean no in-park sales. In-park picnic sales would be for the second and third (if there is a third) shows only. The picnic meals are available for pickup/purchase starting at 2pm. I got a picnic meal on Saturday at 4pm, but it was for the 10:15 show. The pickup window is in the area right next to the Trattoria. There are signs and CMs outside, so it should be easy to find.

I do think the higher levels are better for viewing purposes, but standing on benches isn't allowed.

The area opens for the picnic lunches at 2pm. The ones available at 2pm are for the 1015p show. There are limited benches in the area, generally for the handicapped guests, and CMs will not allow standing on benches. (Imagine the problem for the people standing behind your mom on the bench.)
If you need a fastpass to the first show, I would recommend getting to the park by 10 and getting one from the machine at Grizzly Rapids.

Thanks for the info!
As far as being sold out online, I only saw that the dates listed start in July. Didn't know if I was somehow missing the June ordering area, if that makes sense.
And I hope the standing-on-bench thing didn't sound ridiculous, ha ha, but I didn't know if there were benches just right in the back of an area or something. Of course we wouldn't stand in front of someone!

PS-- Does anyone have a sense of when the show passes run out in the mornings for the first show? If you're not in that line at 10, are you presumably out of luck?
Thx.

You didn't miss anything. June sold out a day or two ago.

Hello Mouse Planet!
I'm ProfGriffin and I just joined this great forum.
I'm a member of Mice Chat as well, but frequent both sites!
I have a question for those who have purchased an online picnic meal and have seen WOC with the reserved viewing space.
I purchased three meals for my family and I for the July 22nd show. (We'll be in the parks for 3 days!)
I got an E-mail with confirmation and in the e-mail was a link to get my 'will call' certificate.
However, when I click on the link, I get sent to a blank Walt Disney WORLD ticket order page.
The e-mail instructions specified that I had to bring the credit card used to purchase and my I.D. AND the printed 'Will call' certificate.
My question is, to everyone who purchased online and have seen the show, did you bring the printed e-mail (and confirmation #) to the front ticket booth? Do you pick up tickets for the picnic meals at ticketing/will call and then take the tickets to pick up the meals and get the fast pass where you pick up the picnic meals?
Sorry if that made no sense. I just want to make sure I'm covered before we go!
If there is a more appropriate forum to post this question, my apologies.
Thanks all! It's great to be here.

Thanks Mrs Disney!
I hope all goes well with you too! Please report back on the procedure for picking up picnic lunches and seating passes for WOC, if you pre-purchase on-line!
Enjoy the magic!

We did 8 of the picnic meals on 6/18. I ordered them on 6/11 and got the AP rate of $12.99 a pop.
Hello Mark,
Did you bring your printed e-mail confirmation to the front gate for Will Call? Or did you just bring your confirmation e-mail to the picnic pick-up?
At the time you pick up your meals, is that when they give you your seating Passes for WOC?
I was just a little concerned in that I did not get a will call certificate in my e-mail.
Please share the procedure for the picnic dinners/WOC seating.
Thanks in advance!!!

We were able to buy tickets for the July 4th WOC show yesterday. We must be crazy, but we're taking my parents for their first ever trip to DL and this is the only time we can go. Hopefully it won't be Christmas busy, but I am sure it will be busy because it's a holiday still. Being able to get these picnic meals with the viewing tickets are great!

You bring your picnic confirmations to the picnic area.

Actually, I wouldn't suggest that my experience is in tune with a lot of other peoples. We were really able to waltz in fairly late (7pm), get food and not wait that long to see the show.
It looks like (based on what other posts are saying) that we lucked out by going to see the show on the date/time that we did....

I'm up in the middle of night trying to order the picnic meal with World of Color reserved viewing ticket and am unable to get them to take my order for the All-American selection. Why? Because I keep getting the error message that it's only available to Southern California residents. Well, I live in San Diego! My zip code is for San Diego County but I guess that doesn't count for the requirement. Don't know what to do.
Maybe they are sold out for the date you are requesting???

i don't think i've seen this on here...we're going to do the picnic option when we go in august. it says that the picnic meals come with a ticket (fastpass)...would i need FP for my 1 year old? i'll be getting one for my 3 year old, but if we don't need to get one for my son, we can just bring other food for him.

We just did the picnic and didn't get one for our 1 year old. Keep in mind with Fastpasses, since the little one wouldn't have had a ticket, they couldn't have gotten a "regular" fastpass.

I had to bring my printed email confirmation letter, my ID, and my credit card to pick up my lunch box dinner. The meal was delicious and fun...the whole thing is packed in a souvenir tote bag. Really cool!

Having now experienced the Picnic Option, here is my review of that part of the World of Color Experience, with a few other general observations (it's long):
We arrived later than I had intended, but fortunately had no problems parking (on Mickey) and only had to wait one tram to load our stroller (since I got in line while DH took our son to the bathroom, there was essentially no waiting). We didn't enter the park until 6:40, which made me a little nervous that we would be late. From there, I didn't quite know where I needed to be to pick up the picnic meal, but the folks at the Wine Country very politely pointed me in the correct direction. I felt bad cutting through the restaurant when I saw where the picnics were actually being sold. There were two lines, each at least five people deep. I got in the one without lots of little kids floating about, hoping that it would go faster. Not sure it if did.
I had the confirmation from right when I ordered, because it printed with a barcode. The email I got that said "please print this order confirmation" had no barcode. The cast member scanned the barcode and did not ask for ID or a credit card. I did sign a receipt. There were only two lines open and while I can't confirm it, it sounded like one line was giving out blue fastpasses and the other line yellow. We got yellow, which was fine with me. I had seen the map earlier and thought that the splash zone in yellow got you just about perfectly center.
We went straight from the line to the barricades. Even thought according to the tickets we should return at 7:30, we stood around and chatted rather than starting to eat. Sure enough, as other people had posted, the barricade opened early so I was glad we weren't in the middle of eating. We got lucky/made an educated guess where the barricade would open and were only a few people back and at the perfect location. Our group was somewhat forced to split up because of the stroller (we don't like running people over) so on the fly we distributed the tickets. If we did it again, we would make sure that each person had their own before the barricade opened. The fastest walker was among the first in the yellow section, and was able to get a prime spot on the 1st section behind the splash zone, just next to the handicapped viewing. The only drawback was a giant lamppost right next to us, but we parked the stroller there and didn't feel as bad about it being in someones way. Had that spot already been taken, we probably would have headed down to the center area of the splash zone.
Once our whole party was there, we sat down and ate our picnic dinners. A cast member came by and told us that it was fine to sit for now, but as soon as it got crowded we would have to stand. After that he left us alone while we were eating.
We got all four adult meals (and the kids power pack little squirt's box). We decided that the dinners are for the most part easy to share with 2 people, but far harder to split four ways. We did our best and at the end of the meal no one was hungry. Next time I would make everyone choose what they wanted in advance. We opted to split the desserts in two instead of four, so each person only got to sample two of them, but had a bigger size sample.
After we were done eating, we toileted our kids and began standing. The process for leaving and reentering was painless, they give you back a ticket and you return it when you reenter.
The preshow was cute, but not what I was expecting (not sure what I was expecting, but that wasn't it). When it came time for the show to start, I took pity on two kids who were in our section but behind us and let them have what could have been my place at the fence. This meant that I had a view that was partially obstructed by the lamp post and two kids went from having probably no view to having an amazing one. I could read all the words, if slightly on an angle due to our location.
The people we were with had gone to Disneyland a week earlier, but couldn't see the show then because it was one of the last grad-nights and the park closed early. I was somewhat hoping that they would have already seen it so that we could compare the difference between the average way, and the Mouseplanet way. A huge thank you to lurkyloo who posted the color coded map! In any case, they raved afterwards about it being an amazing experience.
I had also prepared them that they might get wet, again thank you Mouseplanet! They brought their ponchos and even though we weren't in the "splash zone" put them on before the show. I put my kids in their raincoats because, well, kids like wearing raincoats. I was surprised at how wet they did get. About 1/2 way through the show, my husband put on his jacket to keep the mist off.
I have no idea what the view is like from the other sections, but based on the angle we had, I wouldn't have wanted to be in the furthest section over or even possibly at the end of our section.
We bought the picnic meals because we knew we were going to the park straight from work and meeting people there. This guaranteed that we got into the first show, which was most important to me at the time. In hindsight, being in a center section was also a big bonus.
We're not all day at the park people, so I don't think we will ever do the regular fastpass in the morning and stick around until the show at night. As long as that option is available for free for people who are willing to arrive first thing, I love that Disney also has an option that allows me to buy similar access and gives me a decent meal too. The picnic option seems aimed at annual passholders who visit the park like we do, and it was a great option for us. I wouldn't mind trying the sit-down dining at some point, but we wouldn't have had time this trip to do that and see the first show.

We have "picnic" reservations for World of Color. For anyone who has done this, how did it work out? When you have a "ticket" for watching, what does that mean? Are there seats? We have two in our party who are in wheelchairs. Do they have a special place reserved for disabled? Do our picnic reservations help in getting in at a special place/time? If there are 14 of us, do we get to sit together? How early do we need to be there? Any "experienced" World of Color participants, please answer. Thanks!

There are no seats except for handicapped people. You will have to stand for between an hour and two hours. They don't let people sit on the ground past a certain point.
The picnic lunch gives you FastPasses so you don't have to wait online. I believe picnic Fastpasses are in the yellow area. (Orange, red, and green are the less desirable areas.)
If you are going to the 9pm show, make sure you are there at 7 no matter what they tell you. They start letting people in between 7 and 7:15 and there aren't many good viewing spots if you missing being along one of the fences or ropes so people aren't standing in front of you.

The viewing area is less than stellar. If I had known then what I know now, I would have moved from the disabled area to the regular area. I don't think there are enough benches in the area for 14 people. I think there were enough for about 12, but you wouldn't be able to take them all up, as the other disabled groups would also need them. You also don't see as much and will miss lower areas of the scenes by sitting.
The regular areas are standing. You can sit for the first part of the wait, then they will make everyone stand.
