How about Di'sney California Adventure?
As someone who has an apostrophe in their first name, I have to say this line of thinking is cracking me up! :p

Ick. What a boring logo. No imagination or style in my opinion. :|Is this replacing the logo that has Bear Mountain at the top?
Ironically, it looks a lot more like a competitor's late 50's/early 60's font.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Looney_TunesI've been thinking a lot about this, and I knew I'd seen a similar font before from Disney (no, not Toontown). Check out these Mickey Mouse comics. It's hard to do an exact comparison, because there are so few common letters, but I think this was what they were going for:

This from the company that gave us the "Lightyear's Above The Rest" sign in Tomorrowland for how many years?
As sportscaster Marv Albert would say, "Yessss!"
Don't be surprised . . . In keeping with that theme, Dole Whips and the Enchanted Tiki Room will now insert an apostrophe in the state name "Hawaii" to its etymologically correct form, "Hawai'i". (The apostrophe represents a gutteral stop in the pronunciation.)
Which reminds me of an old Mel Brooks joke:
A tourist arrives by ship in the port in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Visitor: "Excuse me, sir. How do you pronounce the name of the island? Is it Huh-wy-ee or Huh-vy-ee?
Man: It's Huh-vy-ee.
Visitor: Thank you.
Man: You're velcome.

They're trying to move the park more into a cartoony theme, or more into using the Disney brand, rather than focusing on California in general. Also should be noted they're trying to abolish the use of the abbreviation of "DCA" they want us to say it all out.

Interesting--yesterday I asked a question of a CM in the Food and Wine Marketplace and he said "guest relations is outside to the right of the main entrance to DCA, uh, er, California Adventure." I thought it was weird.

That is never going to happen in my humble opinion. :) Altho' I must admit I have non-passholder friends who have no idea what I mean when I say "DCA". So maybe it's just a subculture of park guests they are annoyed with. :p

NOW Disney is afraid of using apostrophes?
What if the apostrophe hanging up in the air fell down?? It might land on someone. :p

I like to 's too. To me it just sounds better. But from the beginning we have always call the park "California Adventure".

Another rationale in defense of the dropping of the apostrophe:
I think it is intended to make the park stand on its own two feet and be "force to bear"
No one says "Disney's Disneyland" - it IS Disneyland.
Thus - It IS California Adventure

Why not just drop the Disney/Disney's from the title entirely, and call it California Adventure? It just makes no sense without the apostrophe. Are they going to change Disney's Animal Kingdom to Disney Animal Kingdom now?

I don't see how changing the logo will do any good. No offence,it's like putting lipstick on a pig or polishing a,,,,,,,,,,,,,,well you know what I mean.
Before the flaming starts, there are some parts of DCA that are pretty cool. Come the next few years it will hopefully get a whole lot cooler.

I havent found a part of the park I didnt like. Especially the shorter lines (in general) and generous us of Single Rider

I like it....I really like the one that has Mickey's face in it.
An apostrophe is used in many ways....as in "Disney's", is used to show posession of something.
I guess that dropping the apostrophe....is like taking the ownership away from Walt Disney actually dreaming up DCA...I am sure that Walt would have been happy to have that apostrophe dropped years ago, as DCA, was not exactly themed around his ideas of what a theme park would be.
There have been many discussions about the original theming of DCA, and how they are working to get back to a more DISNEY'S view of an expansion to Disneyland.....
With the name change to Disney California Adventure one is led to a place that is DISNEY...ish.

I read elsewhere that this is an effort to brand a lot of properties as Disney, and not Disney's (as in Walt). It's not just for DCA - but for all Disney properties- hotels, parks, golf courses, etc. So - in a sense - it's a branding thing. I understand it - but this whole shift to a new park direction and theme for DCA has had more course corrections than I can remember for anything else in quite a while.

There was an apostrophe??? :)
Until this happened I couldn't have told you if there was or was not one before. I never paid that much attention to the name always referring to it as DCA.

But I never related Disney with Walt just because it had an apostrophe in it. It makes no sense to me, and is bad grammar besides.

how many folks do you know, or have heard elsewhere, say "we're going to Disney" or "I visited Disney" - not Walt Disney World, not Disneyland, not Animal Kingdom - Disney. It's very much WDW-created focal point - but even those Travel Channel shows had it. Now I believe they're just trying to brand it the same. Who knows for sure - but someon in an office (not in the real world) thought of it and convinved the suits.

How would eliminating an apostrophe and an "s" get anyone to stop calling it DCA? The initials are still the same. If they want people to stop calling it DCA, they need to change the name entirely (preferably not using words that start with, in order, D, C, and A). Of course, there are still people who refer to Disney's Hollywood Studios as "MGM" -- the name change didn't help there.
We have NEVER called it Disney's California Adventure, even before I started abbreviating it as DCA. It's always just California Adventure. Nine (or ten, if you're our governor) syllables is just too darn long.
ETA: I think they should make the hole in the "o" into a Mickey Head & get rid of the word "Disney" in the name.

<raises hand> On occasion, I have referred to it as DHS, but then people don't know what I'm talking about.

I would imagine that the push to stop the use of the DCA abbreviation is aimed more at castmembers than at the guests. While the abbreviation is well known in the fan community, it probably is potentially puzzling for the average guests. Encouraging the CMs to use the full name also helps to enforce the brand recognition.
I know a former castmember at Disney/MGM Studios (she worked there in the mid to late 90s) and she has mentioned that the company constantly emphasized with the CMs that they should never refer to the park as "MGM". An obvious reason there was that they really didn't want to de-emphasize the "Disney" part of the name.

This is so true, I tell people we're going to "Disneyland" and I get questioned "The one in California or Florida?" so this is really funny when I think about the effort from someone on high in Disney creating this name change.
