If I decide to taxi it over to Hoop De Doo from POR, what time should the taxi pick us up and anyone have an estimated idea of how much the taxi will cost?

Well, here's the deal: You're not too far to the campground. I think it would be around 10-15 minutes from POR to the Ft. Wilderness parking lot/bus corral. BUT you HAVE to take an internal bus to the Settlement where the Hoop De Doo Review is. Last trip, it took about 30 minutes. So, I'd probably go with my usual rule and go an hour before you want to be there. You will most likely have tons of time left, but to be on the safe side....

The other option is to take the POR bus to Magic Kingdom, then take the boat from MK to Ft. Wilderness. It won't save you any time (and perhaps might be a little longer) but it would be free.

None of my taxis have been over $20. Boardwalk was $12; Poly/GF were right at the $20 mark (with a dollar or two for tip). So, I'm not sure, but I'd expect around $15 or less....

Tina, is parking available by the Hoop-Dee-Doo Review?

This is just a little bit off subject, but I too will be staying at POR and going to the Hoop de Doo. We are also eating at Boma. I was definitely planning on driving to Boma, but now I guess to Fort Wilderness is something I should be considering at well. We will have our car. I was wondering if anyone out there has had success using GPS within WDW? We have never had our car before, and I'm a little worried we will get lost on all the service roads.

Midas, if you drive over there, you have to go through the security checkpoint like any other resort. Just tell them you're going to the hoop and they'll let you in. There is an enromous parking--I've never seen it too full--and then take the busses as noted above.

I don't have a GPS, so I cannot comment about that, but the great thing about WDW is that if you get lost (off track), you can so quickly get back where you should be. The signage is pretty good, IMHO.

I haven't had a car in eons at WDW - but have 'paid some attention' while on the buses and taxis. To go to Hoop Dee Do from POR (or POFQ) pay attention to the way the buses go to the MK - and you'll pass right by the campground entrance. I was in a taxi once from Contemp to POFQ and I don't think the taxi driver even knew about that road, so we went a bit longer than we needed to. (And I didn't catch the 'wrong' turn soon enough).

Going to AKL - same thing, get the sense of where the bus turns onto the major road - but from there you should be able to just follow signs easily. Remember that Boma is in Jambo, not Kindani, when you get close.

Thanks everyone! This is our first time having a car, so I'm glad to know it shouldnt' be too difficult navigating those far-away places. My husband would NEVER ask directions!

To get from POR to Ft. Wilderness in a car is so easy and fast! Exit out of POR at the main parking lot. Turn right on Bonnet Creek Parkway. Go to the light/it's a dead end you can't miss it. This is Vista Boulevard. Turn left. Go about 1/2 mile and the Ft. Wilderness parking lot is on your right. As others have mentioned you must park here. There is no where to park at the Hoop de Doo. Hop on an internal Disney bus and take it to the Pioneer Hall. I would allow five minutes to drive and another 30 for the bus just in case you have a long bus wait.

Here's the trick to WDW signage. There are too many locations for them to put every location on every sign, so they group things together. I believe POR is in the Downtown Disney Hotels section (if not, they have big signs as you first come on property detailing which section your hotel is in). All you have to do is follow the signs for Downtown Disney hotels, and when you get close the signs will give you enough detail to find your hotel. It's really not hard at all!
