WDW 5th Birthday ideas?

Hey guys,

We're going to WDW Sept. 18 - Oct. 2nd (fam of 4), to celebrate my son's
5th bday.

It'll be his first time at WDW. On his actual bday Sept. 20th, we are planning to go to AK (he loves animals) and start the day off with Donald's Breakfast.

I'm thinking of leaving a card in the room that day with an extra tip in it for Mousekeeping explaining it's his bday and see what they can do to make it magical (or should I just let front desk/conceirge know and see what happens?)

AK closes early, so any suggestions on where the best place would be for a birthday dinner and cake celebration that night? (outside of the parks as we'll probably just get base tickets)

I'm hoping you guys can help us out with some other suggestions to make it truly magical!

Stop at Guest Services on your way into the park, and ask for a Happy Birthday Badge for him to wear all day. That tends to get a kid more attention. Also call the restaurant and make sure they know it's his birthday, or just call the dining number, and they will note it on the reservation, and any other reservations you have that day.

Definitely tell the front desk when you check in that you'll be celebrating his birthday and that it's his first trip, and make sure they know what date his actual birthday is. You can't count on it unless you order something, but often they will do something nice. On an anniversary trip, my DH and I came back to our moderate room on our actual anniversary night to an autographed card from Mickey and Minnie and a couple of dressed-up chocolate covered strawberries!

Have it noted on your reservation when you book it, as well as on any ADRs when you make them. Also, consider having him wear the button the whole trip. You should be able to get them when you check in!

For a 5 year old, I'd recommend Chef Mickey's.

For a 5 year old boy, outside the park, how about T Rex in Downtown Disney? Not sure what they do birthday wise, but I know when my DS was five, he would have been in HEAVEN at the the T Rex place!

Rent a boat and toodle around 7 seas lagoon? We did that for my son's 3rd b-day and now, at almost 8, he remembers it!

You can't go wrong with Chef Mickey's for dinner. My children loved it when they were 5 and they still love it now that they are teenagers.

Has any done the "Pirates Firework Cruise?" I'm thinking of doing this at some point, we'll be there for 2 weeks but not sure if it is worth the extra fee. Does anyone know if you are on the dining plan if you can use one dinner towards this?

Any other thoughts would be great, as I said we'll be there for 2 weeks so it'll be a 2 week celebration!

I'm almost certain you can't.

I would agree with Chef Mickey's. My 6 year old, who loves the characters and is not shy absolutely LOVED Micky's Back Yard BBQ. Your child does need to be prepared to be in the thick of it though to get the most out of this. This is also 2 credits on the dining plan.

Just a thought though - WDW is really tiring to little children and if you're starting the day with a character breakfast then storming the park, planning an evening activity as well may just be a step too far? Of course all children are different, but that would definately have been to much for mine at five.

If you had hoppers I would also have suggested finishing the day with a pad around one of the water parks. They are less busy at the end of the day and both have great areas for younger children.

That's what my wife says... so I think we may plan for a cake in the room when we return from the park, celebrate there and get ready for the next day at MK!
