Well, do you like steamed clams? That, obviously, is what the clambake is all about. I'm not a fan, but my husband and kids are. I don't think I'll ever forget the first time my younger daughter, a picky eater, tried a clam there, and this was after she had finished eating. She was an instant fan. There are some tasty soups and salads, pretty good ribs and meats, and some nice desserts.

I'm not a seafood fan, but my fam is. They ate platefuls of mussels at Cape May. They were your standard mussel fare. The ones at Raglan Road were in a slightly-saffroned broth and REALLY good according to the fam. Depends if you want quality or quantity. Both were good.

Okay, weighing in here as a super duper fan of the Cape May Cafe Clam Bake Buffet (ooh, look, it rhymes!).
The salads are wonderful, especially the seafood salad. The tomato bisque is to DIE for, I asked for the recipe. There's always a second soup, usually chowder.
The clams are steamed two ways, one straight up and the other in a bread-dip-worthy garlic broth - OMG.
The mussels are always amazing, also in dip-worthy broth.
Then there's crab legs, peel-n-eat shrimp, broiled fresh fish.
Then there's the non-seafood items that my husband raves about. BBQ ribs and chicken, corn on the cob, new potatoes, mac and cheese, cornbread, fresh rolls....
There is a dessert bar that you pass as you walk in, but that's as close as I get to it, because I've gorged myself on wonderful bivalves before I get that far.
It is a must-do for us on every trip.
There's an unbiased review for you. Sorry, haven't been to Raglan Road yet. :eyeroll:

Wow, thanks for all the replies. My husband could eat RR all the time and this would be a nice addition. Is it a character dining?
Thanks

It's not a character meal at dinner, but it is at breakfast.
(But I doubt you'll find many mussels at breakfast!)

Oh, if only! I'm the only character there at dinnertime. And, they do not serve lunch. I always forget that.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Cape May. 'nuff said. :)
Sorry, also haven't done Raglan Road. No opinion. But I've heard so much good stuff about it, we may have to go next trip.

Cape May is one of our favs. Oreo Bon Bons, mmmmm. They have some of the best New England clam chowder I've had.

I'm glad to see so many positive reviews of the Cape May Cafe clambake, as we've always enjoyed it too. And that's coming from a family that generally doesn't like buffets and avoids them when we can. The quality of the seafood on the buffet there is amazingly good.
