OK I know this is a little off topic here but considering Walt Disney was a man who dedicated his career to entertaining audiences young and old, I think he would have appreciated Fred Rogers' contributions to American society. I'm an adult but I feel like I lost an old friend.
Seeing the old clips on the evening news and morning shows has made me think about what made him last for so long. For three decades, millions of preschool age children tuned in to Mr. Roger's Neighborhood and rather than learning their ABC's or their numbers, learned about the world they lived in and their part in it. Mr. Rogers made kids feel accepted and helped them to understand things better and develop self esteem. What greater legacy to leave to the world? There may be no way of measuring the influence he has had, maybe people don't even know what influence Mr. Rogers has had in their lives or their kids lives, or both. But everyone would agree that the influence he did have was entirely positive. The world is a better place thanks to Mr. Rogers.
The LA Daily News said "Fred Rogers, who died Thursday, will be missed in his old neighborhood but no doubt met with joy in his new one."
