View Full Version : Congratulations to Lani and Alex!
MouseWife 02-05-2003, 09:14 AM I want to send to you my High Five! for doing the marathon!!
Your report was great, covered every aspect, to me.
If anyone didn't notice, check the front page for today and read
the article 'Agony of da feat' .
Again, Congrats to you for participating in it!!!
Tell me, how did you recoup after the time/sleep issues and the run?
adriennek 02-05-2003, 09:19 AM ....and Alex! (if you look carefully, you can see him crossing the finish line...)

MouseWife 02-05-2003, 09:23 AM Agh! Really? Is that why that picture is a little blurry?
Help me, oh kind and just moderator!! Can you help me fix the thread title to include Alex? I thought I had done it but, alas, it was only my post.
Congratulations to you, too, Alex!!
kranders 02-05-2003, 09:28 AM Great article Lani!!!!:)
Almost makes me want to start marathon training again!

He really didn't even want to be identified in that photo, which is why he isn't (so Alex will have to give Adrienne raspberries for blowing his cover :D ).
We got to Orlando on Thursday morning without much sleep on the red-eye flight over. We stayed our first night with some friends, and we must have slept a good 12 hours. That helped us get immediately caught up and adjusted to the time difference... and when you train for so long for such a big event, believe me, you do not have trouble waking up at 2:00 -- it is as if your body just knows to get up then.
Walking -- er... "hobbling" -- was stilted after the marathon on Sunday. We both got quick massages in the massage tent to work out some of the worst of the stiffness and pain. We went to Pleasure Island that night (where we ran into MousePlanet columnist Sue Holland purely by chance!) -- your running number got you in for free... they must have figured there wouldn't be too many takers, or at least nobody would be dancing in the nightclubs. We hobbled there with a bunch of other marathoners...
By Monday, walking was stiff but OK, as long as the surface was flat. Stairs were pretty difficult, but going DOWN stairs was excruciating. By Tuesday, we could walk down the stairs without gritting our teeth (albeit slowly). By Wednesday we could walk normally.
MouseWife 02-05-2003, 10:07 AM Oh, that helped a lot, the sleep the first night. I was thinking as if you guys got there and then bam! right into the event.
Well, Alex shouldn't try to go unnoticed!!
To me, it puts a wonderful spin on the whole event~ the two of you together doing this. :)
Thank you so much for sharing!
mad4mky 02-05-2003, 10:25 AM Congrats to Lani and Alex for their wonderful acheivement of finishing this marathon!:D
What a great excuse to go to WDW too!:D
adriennek 02-05-2003, 12:41 PM ok except his picture's on the website already, so anyone who knows who Alex is, could figure it out-- everyone who doesn't know, he's wearing a blue shirt...
I changed the subject per the OP's request.

...Are you SURE you want to be telling everybody that he's in the photo? I don't think you've identified him.
[that's OK; I highly suspect he would rather not be pointed out. We had a conversation before this published, and it was a real fight just to get a blurry photo of him online. Best we not delve into this anymore. Trust me.]
cstephens 02-05-2003, 01:16 PM Congrats to both of you. It is indeed a major accomplishment.
