What have the wait times been like for the Space Mountain Halloween overlay? How quickly after opening does the wait start to build?

10/10 we walked into the park at opening and headed straight to SM...Walked all the way to loading only stopping to ask for the 4th row (:D).

By the time we got off and went to get our FP's, the line was still moving up the ramp at a steady rate.

Last Saturday we headed straight for SM at opening (8:00). Even with the people that were there for MM, it was still a walk on. The posted sign said 25 minutes but there was no wait at all...walked straight to the loading area and got in :-)

Good to know. Here's another question. If I head straight to SM and get a fastpass, what's the average wait with a fastpass? I'm trying to weigh all of my options.

We used a fastpass and went on right after the fireworks (not the best timing). But it was still only like 15 minutes from the time we walked up the ramp until we got on the ride. And that was only because so many other people were using their fastpasses at the same time. Earlier in the day I'm sure it wasn't as bad using fastpass.

This passed Tuesday at 11:30 am it was about a 20 minute wait with FP eligible at around 1:00. We did both.:D

I went midweek a few weeks ago, and got in at about 10:30. The park opened at 10, and got a FP for 11:20 and waited about 20 minutes to ride. Then at 11:20 I got a second FP for 1:40.

Sunday, 10/11. Got to the park at 9, went straight to SM, got a FP for Noon.
Did standby, sign said 45 min. more like 20. By noon, FP time was 8-9pm.
It did break down after that and opened around 2. My 2nd ride was about
10:15pm, with FP it was about a 10 minute wait.

For comparison, at 1pm, I got a FP for Mansion with return of 3:15. So me thinks that Space is the popular ride these days.

We will be there this coming weekend (Halloween!). We will arrive in town by noon and head to the park. I'm wondering when FPs are selling out by?

I'm headed to the park later this week, so I've been monitoring wait times on an iphone app. Space has consistantly had a wait time over an hour posted, and some times nearly reaching two hours.

The overlay is obviously popular, but not any more so then the ride is normally.

Take those times with a grain of salt -- after all, wait times are the one place Disney still under promises and over delivers.

I'm going to disagree. Wait times for Space normally have not been as long as they have been during this Halloween overlay, and Fastpasses for regular Space are not usually gone as quickly as they have been over the past few years.

It's pretty much the same thing with Haunted Mansion. There's a reason Fastpass isn't used/necessary during the rest of the year but becomes useful during Haunted Mansion Holiday.

Yesterday the sign said 90 minutes, but it was closer to 105.

I would say the longest I had to wait for Space Mountain was about 20 minutes in the disabled line on a busy day. When they put the overlay I had to wait almost an hour for disabled and the standby line was about 90 minutes. I would say based on my experiences that I will not be doing Space Mountain for a while because the new overlay is not worth waiting an hour for. i rather ride the coaster in Toontown as it is more fun right now.
