In the past, I've waited in line with our Key to the World to get a wristband for the EMH. Is that still the system? Some of our park hopping will be cutting it close and I'm not sure we be in the park when they hand the wristbands out...

I don't know if any parks are still doing wristbands for evening Extra Magic Hours (they were in the process of phasing them out last time I took advantage) - BUT, even if they are, you can enter the park any time during the hours, so they'll give you the wristband when you enter.

Nope no more wristbands. Last week when we were there we just had to show our room key to get on the rides. :)

So you had to show it on every single ride? As opposed to letting them scan it once when you got a wristband.

Yea, may be cheaper for Disney, but not necessarily easier to deal with for the GUESTS.

It's been this way for quite a while. Initially, there were complaints like yours about how time consuming it would be. However, there haven't been any problems and most people don't even realize there used to be wristbands.

One of the reasons the wristbands were discontinued was the chance that people could remove the bands and share with other people who should not be at the extra magic hours. Another reason was what the OP said - lines to get the wristbands. Now all you have to do is show your keycard. And it's easy to deal with people who shouldn't be there as they cannot go on any ride without that keycard. The system is working nicely.

And since I have been to WDW multiple times since they got rid of the wristbands, and haven't been to the evening EMH - I'm clearly NOT someone who's 'opinion counts' on the matter ;)

(I DO get frustrated in morning EMH when CMs aren't paying attention to my entrance with an AP and I'm holding up the line, though!)

Yep and I agree with you it's a Pain in the butt.
Last week we were in HS eating dinner when the change over happened and I didn't even think about it being EMH when we left the restaurant. We were completely caught off guard when we had to show it at Star Tours. It is pretty annoying to have to bring it out for each ride. Especially since I carry all four passes and have no desire to use a lanyard with the pass/es in a card holder.

It's a HUGE pain in the butt! They do need a new system. I know of someone who kept their KTTW cards from a previous trip and just go to EMHs anyway and flash the card. NOT cool. NOT COOL!!!!

Good point Tina. They do not look very close at the card, they see blue and wave you through. I don't even think they made us show all our keys, I had mine out before everone else and they waived all four of us in just 'seeing' mine.:eyeroll:

They never even checked our dates. They just sawl the gold KTTW card and just waved us through. Yes, I was staying at the Boardwalk at the time. They even said I didn't have to take it out of the lanyard, even though only the start date could be seen easily, and even that they did not check.

BTW, I am in the process of writing the report from this latest trip. I hope to have the first thread posted in a day or so. My sinuses have been killing me today, so haven't written much yet from my notes during the trip.
