I have a son age 13 who is autistic and unable to eat very much at a sitting. He is very picky and will not eat what is on the adults menu. Is it ok to order off the kids menu for him? He will not be using the dining plan if that makes a differnce. Thanks for your input!

Contact Disney special diets people. They can help you with your son's dietary limitations. They are wonderful people who can help you with special requests. Your ADR will be noted so the chef will have those items you need. For table service restaurants you could talk to the chef about making a special plate such as with very little food or your son's special foods.

The only time age is a factor is at shows and character dining for example. Your son would be charged as an adult but could set there and eat only kid foods. Don't worry about him eating only the kids menu foods.
Sue over at Disboards has a very good board with helpful tips on dealing with special diets.

I have the opposite problem, my autistic son is 9 and he won't eat most of what is on the children's menu. However, most of the places will accommadate special requests without question once you explain the circumstances.

Usually they don't even ask. They do special requests all the time. I eat off the child's menu all the time at counter service without question. At table service, I usually have to explain myself a bit but I've never been turned down.

Sorry slight derail but for the very first time I was told I needed to produce my under 12 child to order off of the cafeteria style kids menu when we went to DC this summer. and we were at the cafeteria in the Capitol building! I just told the lady hear that kid screaming (luckily there was a kid screaming in the dinning room somewhere) that's mine do you really want me to drag him in here?? she let me get my $6 kids meal:|. I've never been asked to produce my child before, it was pretty funny.

I know when we go Nov. 29th. I will be eating off the kids menu at the counter service. If they ask to see my kid I will turn around and point at one. Im just not a big eater and I end up wasting adult meals plus the cost alone for us is a biggie to.

For counter service meals...I've ordered kids meals for myself also. No one has ever said anything.
For sit down it's been a different story. I'm sure if you ask it wouldn't be a problem. Disney is very accommodating.

I'm another "not a big eater" - sometimes I eat a kid meal while one of my kids eats my adult meal. We're headed to WDW for our first trip. Which CS & TS restaurants have your favorite kid meals?

I have shared meals with a child, or split an adult meal between two kids, if they don't like the kids meals. A kid can also, often make a meal out of appetizers and side dishes (so can an adult, for that matter). I would ask about the kids' meals, if that is all that he will eat, or just ask for a plate made up of small portions of foods that he will eat.
