The cream cheese filled pretzel at Coke Corner. I was expecting a savory taste, but it was sweet. Not what I was expecting, so it was a bad experience.
You know...I tried one a couple of trips ago when I needed to take a rest so I thought I sit down and try one because I read so much about them here on the Planet.
Well...I agree with rakkwhite. Not exactly savory, not exactly sweet. I say they need to be one or the other; not a bland concoction of salty/sweet mushy pretzel something or other...
I guess it is just one of those Disney treats that you either love or hate. Now, Tigger Tails and Oscar's potato soup over at Carnation Cafe...YUMMO! Oh and the peanut butter and jelly pizza at Goofy's Kitchen...:p

Strange, I thought the marshmellow treats were actually very good. Last trip was the first time I had even tried them. However, I think next trip I will bribe Fariest into bringing some of her butter ones! :D
You've got it Ruthie! I'd be happy to help a Heart out!

P
I like Village Haus burgers, but it seems like I didn't care for the Hungry Bear ones too much. Now.. Taste Pilots were pretty good.
You know all 3 serve the exact same burgers, right? :-)

Turkey legs are so awful! It grosses me out when I see people gnawing on them.
My mom got food poisoning from the caesar dressing at Redd Rockett's (I'm sure that it's the same that's used everywhere but that's where we were). She was really sick vomiting for two of our days down there. That was 5 1/2 years ago and she just ate caesar dressing for the first time recently.
I think that Hook's Point is a definite miss for me. I personally won't go back after eating there.
I have to say though I really like the burgers.
Even talking about what I don't like is making me wish I could go back. :crying:

Ok, that is stinkin' weird... I only posted once!
Churros use to be good but sure don't seem very good any more to me. They don't seem fresh or something - can't really put my finger on it.
:D
So agree with you on the churros. Not sure if I have changed or they have, but they just seem rubbery and really fried. I miss liking churros.

Sad. Really sad. DH and I had a lovely meal at Catal in June. I'd go back for sure.
.
Glad you and DH enjoyed it. I had the worst meal of my life there...
As far as good stuff, I really love Benjal BBQ skewers, Benny Hill joint chicken strips were great (cant remember the name of the place), and everything I have gotten and Carnation has been wonderful. Goofys kitchen was delicious, Ariel's Grotto was fine...still have not had ocassion to try Napa Rose
Pretty much everything in Toontown has sucked, for sure.

How are you sure that was what gave him the food poisoning? Or did they even test him for food poisoning?
I stay away form the Mint Juleps. Just DO NOT LIKE mouthwash that much.
The sausage at Celebration Roundup is to be avoided.
That was the only thing he ate that was different from his family. Shared Pizza for dinner....... Who knows for sure. There are better things to eat in the park.
He got the burger from the Hungry Bear

About the churros, how much do they cost, and how do they compare to the churros at Costco? Those sell for $1 plus tax. The ones at Sea World are $3 and not as good as the ones at Costco.

The turkey legs look and smell revoltingly greasy.
I am SO with you on this one. I think they look and smell disgusting, and seeing people gnaw away at them turns my stomach, especially on hot days. (My apologies to anyone who likes them...)
My daughter and I actually have a hand signal that we use to caution one another that there is a turkey leg approaching. That's how grossed out we are by them.

Those 'things' they try and pass off as chimis. Should have thrown my $5.00 in the garbage can. That's where most of the chimi ended up. :(

Hmm. I think they are $4. I have heard they are smaller than the ones at Costco but one is more than enough for me. Much as I enjoy shopping at Costco, I think comparing their food court to Disneyand is apples to zebras.

Flames are for toasting marshmallows and hot dogs, bennette. So to attack your list.
Turkey legs: I was at a table with a nurse at Ariel's Grotto and she talked about how she could see the tendons and stuff so it was a bit upsetting to see one for her. I love turkey legs but they are greasy, very hard to eat, them tendons just drive me up the wall as i want to eat NOW, not have to carve my meal up and make it edible. Ultimate gross out for me is seeing a kid under the age of 10 with a huge turkey leg that could feed a grown man.
I used to like Rice Krispies treats that were homemade but the commercial ones are so blah,
As for the cookie boat at Blue Bayou just go to Steakhouse 55 and tell them you want ice cream and to "iron chef" it. "Make it special, please" or something along that line. I pade about $3 for a scoop of vanilla ice cram with a mickey head and lemon swirl, a scoop of chocolate ice cream with raspberry swirl and mint, and a piece of spring hsaped candy in the middle.
I seen the labels on some of the food at the candy counter and it can scare a person.
======================
My List
Tigger Tails: I totally got revolted by one. I have sensory issues and can be a picky eater but could not even swallow a bit of one. I react strongly to egg whites but could force myself to swallow one and forced myself to swallow scallops which were like egg whites but no way could I handle a Tigger Tail from Pooh Corner.
Blue Bayou: I am not much into veggies but I do know bad veggies and their veggies was over cooked and limp. The rice had over cooked brown bits like when you make a huge pan of rice and the edges get crisped. The fish was YAWN boring. Needed herbs, spices, or lemon pepper for example. They have lovely rice pasta but it is plain and something I would not want to eat again.
Redd Rockett's pasta with marinara sauce was good rice pasta but there was water at the bottom of the dish and the sauce and pasta did not mix well together.
Burgers should not have ribbons of suet or be cooked dry. Village Haus is pretty good at dry meat and overcooked or speed cooked burgers.
Mint Juleps are supposed to be a touch of mint and I could put a teaspoon into a swimming pool and still have that strong minty taste, BLEGH.
Corn on the Cob at Frontierland is sold along with turkey legs. I got one for Calvin and it was oozing butter/margarine. Calvin liked it but so yucky messy.

I appreciate this thread - it confirms what I have been feeling this weekend as I try to finalize our meal plans for our trip next week - the food at DLR is just not great. (Napa Rose excluded, of course). I am having a devil of a time figuring out where to go for dinner with my healthy eating mom and the rest of my family next sunday night that won't cost too much. I am open to suggestions.
As far as my least favorites at the resort:
Burgers - gross
Redd Rockets - unimpressive at best,
Bakery - blech
and...
wait for it...
Goofy's Kitchen Dinner - If the kids did not love the characters and the desserts so much I would never go back. I am a major sweet tooth and I dont even like their dessrts that much.

If you like Italian is the Wine country over in DCA an option? Believe it or not if you're not looking to eat too late I'd recommend White Water Snacks unless you're looking for a sit down option. They have a nice selection of salads and sandwhiches and the ever popular nachos?

Thanks Mamma, I will keep Whitewater Snacks in mind. DH already vetoed Wine country trattoria - he thinks it is uninspired but I actually do like their salads. Hey, it's my mom and I do the planning. Does DH get veto power? :p

I thought I would love the Tiger Tails as they're so cute... but they turned out to be awful. Next time I'll stick with my favorite Krispy Treats.

Thank you spooky girl for posting this thread!
I will share my opinions and try to ONLY be positive.
First off....SIT DOWN RESTAURANTS only. Here is an example. I used to love the joy of the simple MICKEY MOUSE PANCAKE at Riverbelle Terrace. When you receive SAID pancake you then go to the BEVERAGE person. They make you beverages and then you have to wait about 3 minutes to get to the register IF AND ONLY IF the person in front of you doesn't say "oh wait can we get another coffee and oh no did joey not get his pancake can we have another pancake and oh no where is my wallet go get Daddy to get some money and now here is our money and oh no did we not use our ap to get a discount and oh no who has my wallet.................." You catch the drift. EVery time I have waited in one of these lines. I MEAN EVERY TIME I have waited in these lines something like this has happened. Every single time. So when I sit down. My meal is STONE COLD.
So tip number one. Don't ever stand in a buffet line. Ever. Chaos theory in action.
That is why EVERYONE likes the Bengal Barbeque. It is tiny and you order and they hand you your food off of the grill. AFter you wait forever BUT..... Hot. Hot food. Simple concept. If you go to Carnation you order. They cook it and it is hot. I know I know I know....it is not always the case but a better gamble.
I went with my friends kids once and we did the Plaza Inn character breakfast. Everyone avoided the omelette station because you had to WAIT for your omelette. You didn't have to wait for the eggs that were made half an hour ago....Gross. I just had three omelettes that were hot and delicious. My money was well spent.
I go to Catal all the time and while it isn't AMAZING it is quite nice. I get burgers and I have had the breakfast about two or three times. I order a cocktail and that always helps. Ask the servers what they like. They work there so they are sick of everything and if they happen to like even one or two things GET THEM!!!!! Any other place I have tried has been pretty gross. ESPN has good burgers and most of my pals say RAINFOREST CAFE has decent food.
One of the best values in the WHOLE resort is the cheese plate at NAPA ROSE. You can just go to the bar with no reservation and get it. A meal unto itself. I have heard that Blue Bayou is not good anymore. Fairly reliable sources there. Napa Rose is fantastic IF YOU HAVE THE BUCKS. Storytellers Cafe has some nice things if you ask your server they can steer you in the right direction.
I think things like DOLE WHIP are yummy BECAUSE they are disgusting and you are on vacation. The ice cream is very good at GIBSON GIRL...not great but a treat indeed. The Apples are very good at the candy store Caramel and Candied and I love the apple pie one. SO besically the CRAP is good. But what the heck ....you are at disneyland and on vacation after all......
I am mad.....

Joe's Taqueria
I am part Mexican and was born and raised in a Hispanic area where I have eaten carnitas many many times. The taco from Joe's was meat, onions, cilantro all in a corn tortialla. Normally carnitas have a bit of spices and are savory. What was so weird was that the outside of the taco was greasy and grease was pooling in the boat.
I wiped off the grease and ate the whole thing. It was filling and good food but not like real home style carnitas. For some people that pool of grease would be a turn off and they need to do something about their greasy food. Their tacos are to home style as are Village Haus burgers are to home made burgers.
