DH shocked me today and said "we need really good costumes for the ToT Party!!!" I figured he'd pass on dressing up, but I guess not.

Here's what we've got.....

DD2 will be Cinderella (have the costume already)
DS(will be 10 mo) will be Gus (the mouse). MIL is sewing this one.

DD8 and DD4 will be given the option of either wearing their princess dresses (Aurora, Ariel or Snow White) or dressing with the Cinderella theme.

DH will be the Prince (any suggestions on cheap way of doing this?)
I will probably be Cinderella/Maid (seems fitting) or Fairy Godmother unless the girls wants to be either of them. If so I would probably be the Stepmother, but this will need some ideas. Or I can convince the girls to be the stepsisters, but I doubt it. Any other character suggestions???

We are also decorating the double stroller like the pumpkin carriage!!

Can adults dress up for this too? I read somewhere that only children can dress up...so confused.

Adults are allowed once the Trick or Treat party starts. That is the only time Adults can dress up at Disney.

Regularly it is 9 years old for either park but during Halloween it is age 12 for either park. Only at the event will anyone over the age of 12 be allowed to dress up and they are strict about things like pointy objects and pretending to be a Disney character.

On the Disneyland website under the ToT adults are allowed to dress up!

FDH and I will be going as Ragdoll Mummies and my parents and older bro with SIL will be 4 of the dancing skeletons from Silly Symphony Skeleton Dance!!

We're allowed (actually encouraged) to dress up for Halloween at work since it is after all pediatrics. But we are not allowed to wear any masks that cover our face and usually the costumes people come with aren't super elaborate or bulky (like ball gowns or anything like that) since we need to still be able to maneuver and go into patient rooms, etc. So my first year I worked overnight into Halloween and then again Halloween night so I needed a few costumes. First at midnight I took off my scrub top to reveal my red "i" Incredibles shirt underneath and then just put a mask across my eyes. The next night when I returned to work I was wearing blue jeans, converse sneakers, an orange turtleneck, and my mouse ears. I put my name in black stick on letters like for a science fair project across the chest. Only one nurse knew what I was supposed to be.

I only wear chuck taylors at work now and last year for Halloween the girl who was working with me on the floor at the time wore a shirt and tie, her chucks, put Disney stickers all over her shirt, and wore my mouse ears. The nurses thought it was hysterical.

I guess those are some quick DIY stories more than ideas. Sorry to hijack the thread. Now back to the convo!

That's too funny. I normally dress as DH. It was especially funny last year when I was preggos and actually filled out his work shirt! :p

DH will be the Prince (any suggestions on cheap way of doing this?)

Okay, I am assuming that you and your DH do not sew. You can still get a lot done with fabric glue, fabric paint and cardboard.

The trick is reducing the costume to the most easily recognized visual elements. For the Prince it's a white tunic with a cross-chest strap and belt, and red pants with stripes down the sides.

Thrift stores and workout pants are your friend. I participate in a parade every year that requires dressing to a theme and you would be amazed at how easy it is to doctor thrift store items.

If you can't thrift a white jacket that fits, you might be able to get away with using a white button-up shirt of sturdy fabric and trimming down the collar and cuffs to the correct shape. Use jewelry or belts for the trim, or fake with purchased ribbon. The epaulets can be faked with fabric-covered (or spray-painted) cardboard with chainette fringe glued around the edge. Then all you need is red pants -- stretch workout pants will do if they have the right silhouette to the leg. Add ribbon running down the legs as stripes, or use gold-glitter fabric paint.

Lady Tremaine would need a long skirt and long-sleeved blouse in the same color, with lace (see thrift store: old tablecloths/curtains) at the neck and wrists, a large cameo (can be cardboard) at the center chest, and a spray-on streak in your (styled big) hair.

Man, I wish your daughters would be interested in dressing as the step sisters, because that would be hilarious. Big fake butts and noses!

My oldest wouldn't go for it!! LOL She's going to be Cinderella/Maid. My 4 yo still hasn't decided. My MIL sews but I already have her working on a mouse costume for DS. Didn't think of the red track pants. That's a good idea and something I can convince DH to wear without much complaining. LOL

My friend just made the cutest Peter Pan costume for her daughter with a shirt and a pair of black pants from Target. She didn't sew a single stitch. :)

DH thinks he'd rather be the Grand Duke with the glass slipper and eye-glass or the horse!! LOL

I'm still working on the girls to be step-sisters. DD4 will go for it, but my almost 8 yo thinks she needs to be "cute". Oh brother! I'll start hitting the thrift stores for costumes after our DL trip next week. Hopefully I can get some good inspiration!!!

Sounds like you've got a pretty good Cinderella theme going on here.:) I'll be going to the Trick-or-Treat party for the very first time at the end of October, so that gives me plenty of time to make my costume (I'm actually working on it right now as I type:D). I'll be going to the party as Murphy the Fantasmic dragon, so if you see a black dragon walking around DCA, chances are that it's me! But you'll probably miss me because my costume's dark.
