View Full Version : Every Disney Store in Oz to close down!
Lashbear 01-15-2003, 09:35 PM AAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh !!!!!!
Disney Stores Closing in Oz (http://heraldsun.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5478,5833023%255E662,00.html)
This probably means no theme park for OZ in the near future. :crying:
RStar 01-16-2003, 10:51 AM I'm sorry to here that Lashbear. But you know what? I pretty much stopped shopping there anyway. The merch. has become increasingly cheesy, no clothes for adults, and basically is the same stuff now as at the parks. And withought my Disney Club discount that they so graciously took away from me, I may as well shop at the parks and get my AP discount.
mousey_girl 01-16-2003, 12:25 PM I feel goofier than usual right now...
When I read the thread title the firs thing I thought was "What is a prison doing with a Disney Store?" I have OZ on the brain since it is in the final seaon and I just gotdone watching season 2 on dvd.
The 2nd thing was "I though Wizard of Oz was a MGM movie."
I read the article and feel really dingy.
mad4mky 01-16-2003, 12:57 PM Bummer for you Lashbear.
Even though the stores have gone way downhill...no matter where I am, what town I am in, in what city...I always try to get to a Disney Store...
I want to see if they have different merchandise. I want to see how the store is decorated (Boston at Quincy Market/Fan. Hall was the BEST ever)...and it's just to get a buzz on my "Disney high" I get when I see anything Disney.
So, even though they don't have any good adult merchandise lately, it was still a connection for me. I used to work at a Disney Store at a local mall. They closed one near us, but not the one I worked at...
So, I just always have had a feeling of "I belong here" when I walked in...that's probably why I liked working there so much.
Some of the best stores I have been to stores in:
San Francisco (2)
Maui
Honolulu
Boston
Chicago~Michigan Ave.(that ones pretty cool too. Art Deco-ey. I took pictures of the outside entry way.
London
(too bad I missed Paris's...if they have one!)
And lots of local California ones...but who needs to mention them?

And Lashbear, there's always Disneystore.com (www.disneystore.com), it's not as good as the real thing, but when you're left with nothing else.:(

Yes...I agree whole heartedly with that article. The Disney Store on Post St. is one of the worst locations I have ever been in. The last time I was there was last May...it was always one of my favorite desitination spots in SF.
Not any more. The store was a mess...and it was filled with Junk. Junk! The revered Gallery was junk. No more exclusive pins, purses, crystals and cels.
The rest of the store was key chains, annoying light thingys the kids love, and cell phone covers.
The service was awful. My TDS manager had left to manage the store on Post St. I used to love to go up and see her. She is no longer there. When asked if I found everything I wanted by a CM last May. I of course replied "no...your store is terrible now. It's not your fault...but its junk. I'll just save my money for DLR". It might have been rude of me, but it was the way I felt at the time.
I heard the beloved Boston store was closing...
It was great. With the different movie scenes with Mickey and his friends. The best was the Frankenstein scene with Donald Duck. And the Cleopatra one...wow.
I was glad that Chicago's Michigan Ave was still in tact. It was charming and the merchandise still varying of all kinds. The CM were amazing. In fact, as I talked to one, she happened to know my old manager, as they come from the same town in Arizona. She was going to make sure she said hi to her on her trip home at Thanksgiving, as their families get together every year for the holiday.
Wow...what service. I tended to spend a lot in that store...and haul it all the way back home to California.
HTHBellcaptain 01-16-2003, 03:04 PM Lashbear, I am very sorry to hear about your loss. If they don't straighten their act out, we may all be losing Disney Stores. The concept is great, but I think they need to rediscover who their market is.
RStar 01-17-2003, 09:02 AM Yeah, the parents are the one's that bring the kids in. Unless they have real little kids, the parents simply won't be stopping by much now.
Morrigoon 01-17-2003, 09:21 AM Mad4Mky: it's on the Champs-Elysees, about halfway down from L'Arc du Triomphe
(me? addict? nah! Nevermind that I and this chick from New Zealand managed to find a Disney store in every major city on our tour! Well maybe not every, but we found Paris, Venice, and Rome)

Well, I was around there. In fact, now that I read this, I do remember my daughter asking me if I wanted to go check it out...but she had mentioned it wasn't that great (hhmmm...Should I have trusted a kid who is 1/2 muggle?? Too late now! ).
We had dinner right by the L'Arc du Triomphe on the Champs-Elysees...at Chez St. Clement or something or rather. After climbing those steps up to the top of the L'Arc...I could barely make it across the "star" (even though you go under...) to the restraunt. :(
Great view. Killer stairs.:(
I got slippers from the Disney Store in Rome. My neighbor went there, and thought..."The only person who would care that there is a Disney Store in Rome is...mad4mky! I'll get her something from there!"

She was right. We went there, it was being remodled, so only the basement was open and it was very hot and stuffy down there. Couldn't get out fast enough. Far better things to see on the Champs.
Lashbear 01-18-2003, 04:23 PM Thanks for all your condolences !!
You're right, there is not a lot of merch that you couldn't get elsewhere... but it WAS a fun place to browse... we even got a disney planning video there to "warm up" the kids before the trip !
The band, having played their last "Swisskapolka" moves on.....

Whew...
Thanks for letting me know. I was envisioning me staying awake at night worrying over missing visiting the Paris Disney Store.
My kids a pretty sharp little cookie. Relied on her a lot while there...glad to know she called it right on this.:D
