We are thinking of going over the 4th of July next year. If we were to tour in the morning and take a break in the afternoon would we have to be concerned about them closing the park due to capacity? Do they close it for the day or do they monitor how may people leave and then let that many people in? At WDW we stayed onsite so we didn't have to worry about this, but at DL the resorts are too expensive for our budget! Thanks for your insight!!!

First level is to stop selling 1 day passes. Then they proceed to selling only APs. Another couple levels and they stop allowing new admits. Finally they stop everyone until the park has reduced the capacity. The Fire Marshal sets the limits. It does not matter if you are on property or not, everyone is treated the same. (Well, just about.) When enough people leave, the FM will reopen the park. I don't think it closed this year. Who knows what will happen next year.

Um, so, if we were in the park in the morning and got stamped for re-entry (do they still do that?) as we left for a noon time break, do we need to be worried about not being able to get back in?

Yep, they cannot legally allow anyone in the park once it hits capacity. AS was stated they stop selling tickets then passes then finally lock the place down and nobody goes in not even AP and current ticket holders. Fire Marshall rule at DLR and what they say is what matters.

Note that the parks ahve not hit the shut down stage yet this year.

Once the park hits capacity, no one is allowed in. BUT, the park *usually* hits capacity around 1-2pm, then decreases shortly after the afternoon parade and they will reopen.

Fourth of July this year was a complete anomaly. Even though it was on a Saturday, attendance at both parks was quite light, even for a regular Saturday in summer. Disneyland didn't get crowded until about two hours before the fireworks. I wouldn't expect that every year though.
