View Full Version : Disneyland Resort Rider Swap and Tips for Travel with an Infant
JoeCool 08-04-2009, 07:16 PM HI.
I thought I would post this thread asking for some advice since my previous questions were always answered so well by all the experts on Mouseplanet.
My sister and I are going to Disneyland over Labor Day and the first week of September. My sister is bring her infant son who is 6 months old. He has already been on 4 plane rides already and he has had no problems flying.
We are staying on site at the Disneyland Hotel so we can easily go back for naps and rest and pool time.
Last year when my sister and I went to Disneyland she was pregnant and could not go on all her favorite attractions (Indy, Space, Matterhorn, etc.).
We both would like to go on those attractions now and I remember seeing something about a rider swap when people are traveling with infants and children who do not meet the height requirements. We know that we both cannot go on those attractions together since one of us has to be with the little one at all times. How does the rider swap work?
Also we are bringing our own baby stroller on the trip. Is this ok for park entry?
Also is it possible for us to ship diapers, formula and baby bottles to the Disneyland Hotel. We would order from a place an order from a place like Babies Our Us and then have it shipped directly to the hotel. Does the Disneyland Hotel allow this? Is there a special number I should call to ask and if so will they tell me the shipping address?
Can anyone recommend restaurants in DL and DCA and Downtown Disney that are good to bring infants to? We know that Disneyland says that everywhere is good for infants/children..but I would like to know if there are places that better or better suited for an infant. We are not planning to go to Napa Rose but we were thinking of possibly having dinner at Steakhouse 55 or Hook's Point at the DLH Hotel...would it be ok to to make a reservation there with an infant?
Any answers or advice is so greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance to all!
Joe
Bytebear 08-04-2009, 07:32 PM Since there is only two adults, the single rider line might be a better option for your on attractions that support it. The advantage is that neither of you has to wait in the stand by line. With child swap the first person has to wait in the stand by line and then the second person gets in through the short line. The advantage of child swap is when you have more people, because each adult can take someone else with them, giving an older child two rides, one with each parent. Did that make sense?
Oh, and strollers are fine to bring in to the park.
Restaurants... Hmmm... How about Storyteller Cafe?

Thanks. It makes sense..;-)
I think I get that. I was thinking that on some rides with could also get Fast Passes and then each one of us can go quickly.
We have eaten once before at Storyteller Cafe and we liked..Maybe we will go there again.
Thanks again.

You can ship items to DLH. Just have them addressed to "Guest - Joe Cool, Disneyland Hotel, address etc.." Sometimes businesses forget to add the Guest part, then they go all over the place.

Thanks for moving it ! Thanks for the answer for shipping. It will make travel so much better.
mechurchlady 08-04-2009, 08:32 PM I had dinner with my mother who is in a wheelchair last Sunday at Steakhouse 55. There are booths as well as a variety of sized tables. Off to the right is a sort of private area that is nice to sit away from the main area. You can bring the baby in a carrier and park the carrier in a booth. The staff do special diets and are excellent with their customers.
Steakhouse 55 also is a nice reduced lighting and calmer place for dining. I would be a lovely treat for the ladies and the baby will probably sleep through the meal. I love this restaurant because of the service and staff.
Hook's Pointe has a slow elevator. It is another quiet up scale restaurant that has no problem with babies. Calvin loved their food and I nibbled on something that time. Hook's Point is in the middle of the grounds and near the pool.

Not only can you use fastpass and rider swap, but I believe that you can use it to your advantage to basically double the use of your fastpasses. If just one of you gets a fastpast for Space Mountain, you can use it and then your sister can go through the fastpass line with the rider swap, but no fastpass (or vice versa). Please someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this will allow for you to acquire and use more fastpasses than you would have otherwise; while one of grabs a fastpass for Space the other of you could grab a FP for Buzz, for example. Both of you end up going through the fastpass line, but with only one fastpass.
mechurchlady 08-04-2009, 10:22 PM THpoohbear your plan would work if one person was willing to stand alone in the FP line then wait with the baby while the other two rode the ride. This would then give them 3 uses of tickets for the FP machines thus allowing the group to triple the availability of FP.
IF there was four adults then two ride while two wait then they switch. This would double FP as they use half the tickets at each ride.
Drince88 08-05-2009, 03:46 AM Yes, THPoohBear, your plan would work fine for JoeCool and sister.
(mechurchlady, there's only 2 adults going)

oops did for some reason add a husband. Yes that would be perfect with 2 ladies and they could also use the single rider lines instead of FP sometimes.

Here's a post from 2007 that I regularly refer to for "How Rider Switch Pass Works." (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showthread.php?p=1034326&highlight=rider+switch#post1034326)

Absolutely. I far prefer my own stroller to renting!!

Yes, you can do this, we've done it before. The first parent can go through with a FP and the second goes through with the rider switch and no one stands in line! Plus you can collect twice as many fp's at once because they don't compare it to your pass, doesn't matter whose it is.
