As confirmed by Disneyland and noted today on the Mouspad news page (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showthread.php?t=129175) Disneyland is adding a Halloween themed fireworks show as well as a spooky layout in Space Mountain from 9/25 to 11/1. I am torn between happiness for having more things to see at the resort - and sadness that it seems Mickey's Halloween Treat inside DCA will be stalled with the same offerings it has had for the last couple of years. There had been speculation and rumor about a better parade (a la WDW's Magic Kingdom Halloween Party) and some other additions as the price goes up - but it seems from this announcement there won't be much more added over there.

I would venture a guess it's due to the DCA construction as part of the issue - but I also get the sense that Disney management decided to take Knott's head on and draw people in to Disneyland itself since it's already the magnet for more guests than DCA. Go with the more popular choice and people will follow..

That's awesome! I love what a big deal Halloween has become at the DLR over the past few years. I can hardly wait to see the decorations going up! For us, it's become the official kickoff of the holiday season.

Yeah!

How many years until there is a giant ghoul pulling the 'Mark Twain' around the river like DLP has for HalloweenTime?

That is what I read also before about the DCA construction really keeping them from adding on to the roster of decorations and more events for HalloweenTime and Christmas at DCA. They just don't want to spend the extra money right now, so just keep what they have had. Word has been once Buena Vista Street is completed, there will be a nice new Holiday decor package, much like Main St at Disneyland gets. Hopefully this will include Halloween as well. But that is still several years away.

Even so, there is no reason why they can't bring back the Tower of Terror effects they had 2 years ago and even the storytelling. That was just pure budget cuts from last year. Hopefully they have a change of heart this year.

I am really looking forward to finally having a Halloween fireworks show. That will really help with the overall HalloweenTime event at Disneyland. The extra villans will also be great. Once they cut the pumpkin festival on Main St last year, Disneyland really only had the Main St decor and Haunted Mansion overly for Halloween. The Space Mountain overlay sounds like it could be cool, but cheesy at the same time. I'll have to wait and see about that one..

They are continuing their efforts this year to draw the locals in during each season. Now what can they come up with for Jan - Mar?

It looks like we timed our September trip perfectly; we were originally going to go Sept. 18th - 23rd, but we changed it to the 25th - 30th. I wonder what the "official" name for the SM makeover will be? (Ghoulish Galaxy, Ghostly Galaxy, Nightmare Nebula, or Spooky Space)

Its about time they start doing more for halloween. lol
Its sad when Tokyo Disneyland out does the Original Park in holiday decor and holiday effects.

Now if we could only dress up like characters like they do in Tokyo. I know I know Im dreaming again.

Sounds like a great excuse for a no-kids date night night around Halloween! We only get on Space once a year (IF we're lucky!)

Hallowe'en is my FAVORITE holiday and I love it when they do ANYTHING for it. Sounds awesome. I hope they have the MARIACHI Gals back for the Dia de los Muertos display....that was awesome. So happy that we will be there the first day of OCTOBER!!!

I am sure when BUENA VISTA ST. is done they will be able to theme everything better in DCA anyway. The way that they have tied PARADISE PIER together is awesome.

Does anyone know when the SM halloween removal will be? We are planning a trip in early Nov. but don't want to plan it when SM is down since it is my kids' favorite ride.

Considering a SM overlay is really just some lighting and soundtrack change, I doubt there will be any downtime. Right now, the refurb list shows no downtime preceding the overlay, so I'd imagine there won't be any following.

Here is what the DL Weekly update shows (which includes SM from Sept 8-24). I am assuming that is for the overlay. I don't think the DL website calendar has been updated yet. But I don't see anything yet about after October 31st.

Disneyland: The First 50 Magical Years – closed through December 16 to return Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln to the Main Street Opera House.
Pinocchio's Daring Journey – closed July 20 – August 14 for refurbishment.
The Enchanted Cottage – closed July 29 – November 17 for refurbishment.
Casey Jr. Circus Trains – closed August 31 – November 20 for refurbishment.
Storybook Land Canal Boats – closed August 31 – November 20 for refurbishment.
Mark Twain Riverboat – closed September 8 – 10 for refurbishment.
Space Mountain – closed September 8 – 24 for refurbishment.
Minnie's House – closed September 9 for refurbishment.
Haunted Mansion closed – September 10 – 24 for refurbishment.
Gadget's Go Coaster – September 19 – October 26 for refurbishment.
Pirates of the Caribbean – September 28 – October 2 for refurbishment.

So they need about 17 days to add the overlay, I would expect about the same amount of time to remove it. Halloween falls on a Saturday, and I doubt they would shut it down and start work on a Sunday (Nov. 1st) but you never know. In any event, I would expect they'd want it back in operation by Thanksgiving week, and if they close it down Nov. 2, it would be open again on Thursday Nov. 19th, a full week before Thanksgiving. That's a lot of assumptions though.

I spoke with a fantastic cast member today in the blue sky cellar who said that a plan is in the works for a new fireworks show during Halloween hosted by Jack Skelington. He would not give me any details, as there has not yet been an official announcement.
