Hi! I am taking my almost 5year old and a 9 month old baby to Disneyland in august. We are traveling with another mom and her 4 year old. I have a couple questions....can the baby go on all the rides that dont have height restrictions? Also I know for space and splash you have to have a responsible adult...can the other mom take both of the kids on it...or does each child have to have one?
thanks

I've moved your thread to the Parenting forum where you may get better responses.

The baby can ride most rides that do not have a height restriction. A few rides (such as Roger Rabbit) wil require them to be able to sit up. The other mom can take the 2 on Space and Splash (provided they make the height requirement) but will be sitting behind them. Matterhorn may be a problem.

As Malcon10t said she can take them on Splash and/or Space if they are tall enough and they want to. Matterhorn would be one I'd not recommend because of the seat belt issue instead of an automatic lapbar like space has. She could also take them on Big thunder but I wouldn't recommend it, they will allow the 3 in a seat if they're small but she'll spend all her time trying to hold them in since the lap bar will stop at her lap not theirs. There are a LOT Of rides the 5 of you can enjoy together without the coasters. IF the 'big kids' really want a coaster I'd recommend Gadgets coaster in Toon Town.

Just a heads up that not all kids are ready to go on rides as others. I've known 3 and 4 year-old kids who've enjoyed rides that my 6 and 4 y-os have yet to want to try (like Pirates and HM).

Roger Rabbit is really tough on little kids because of the spins and jerks. The noise and lights might bother the 4 & 5 y-o kids. The 9-month old will probably be game ;)

In Disneyland we've all enjoyed iasw, Storybook Canal Boats, Alice In Wonderland, Dumbo, and the carrousel. The tea cups got to be too much for my son when he got older and neither of the kids have wanted to go on the dark rides in FL. Tom sawyer's Island and Pooh have been great too and I still want to try the Mark Twain. The treehouse and Jungle Cruise were great.

In DCA we've enjoyed Bug's Land, Soarin', Monsters Inc, the animation building, and the Redwood Trails.

Do you know about child swap? You and the other adult can trade off with each other, taking the kids (you don't need to do one-to-one) if not all the kids can go on the rides. You can do a search in this section to learn more, or someone will come along and explain how it works.

Have fun!

And don't forget the wonderful Baby Centers!

You can always take advantage of the baby swap so your friend can ride with her DC and then you can ride with your older child.

We do DL and DCA with lil ones a couple of times a month. When DS2 was just 7 months old he went on many rides with me....some on my lap, some in the Bjorn. Here's what he did at 7 mos.
Pooh
Haunted
POTC
Buzz
All of Fantasyland
IASW
Monsters Inc
Jungle Cruise

Now that he's 2 here's what he can do/enjoys...
All of the above plus
Matterhorn
Nemo
TSMM

DS1 who is now 3 and 40" can do/enjoys...
all of the above plus
BTMRR (gotta hold him though)
Splash (he's obsessed)

There is A LOT you can do with the little ones, you'll have a blast. I also recommend you checking out a site about doing DL with little ones. babesindisneyland.com It's a great source of information and tips, plus I'm pretty fond of the mom who runs it.

I've been taking my 5 boys to Disneyland by myself once a week during the summer. I made a rule that we only go on rides that all 6 of us can go on together. My youngest is 16 months old so they know we don't do big rides on those days but we sat down and made a list of every ride that was possible. It's a mighty big list.

Definitely take the Bjorn if you have one, or a sling or something like that. It will SAVE you when you are standing in long lines with a squirmy baby! And you can get right on some of the rides with the baby in it, my DD rode lots of rides this way when she was small enough for it.

Thats not an enforced rule.

I would HIGHLY recommend a moby wrap or something similar. That way your hands will be free. Your baby can ride everything that doesnt have a height requirement. HAVE FUN!

Thats not an enforced rule. I am not sure which part of my response you are referring to, but if it is Roger Rabbit requiring the child to sit, numerous parents here will tell you it IS an enforced rule. Pooh's adventure, some cast members will say they have to sit, some will allow them in the slings, but Roger Rabbit is one that every CM I have been around will enforce.

Autopia is 1 year and older. You may take an infant on any ride with no height requirement. CMs at Roger Rabbit may say no if the baby interferes with the ride operation or could be tossed from the ride. The main problem I see on that ride is the steering wheel that moves and could cause problems.

Definitely visit the baby center which is next to the Wishes Lounge for Make a Wish kids and is just east of the Nurse's Station. They sell baby powder which adults buy a lot of for themselves. They have tables for changing kids, a training potty for toddlers, a giant wash tub for washing out clothes and cloth diapers, high chairs, and places to sit to feed kids. Kids are not allowed to crawl on the floor for safety reasons. There is a private partitioned area where only a breastfeeding mom and her baby are allowed to enter and it has nice rockers and is rather private, cool and quiet. There is a microwave for nuking thing. AIR CONDITIONED and quiet spot usually.

Your party can use the baby swapping pass for rides that have a height minimum. The party goes to the CM greeter and shows the greeter that there are indeed short kids. The greeter gives you a pass and you can come back any time in the day with one or more people when using that pass. The number depends on crowds and ride seating.

You can use the older kids and grandmother's tickets to get FP for rides like Indiana Jones. Those 3 extra tickets would allow you to get 2 FP at Indy and have two people ride with FP then 2 ride with baby swapping pass. You then would have 3 tickets for FP at splash mountain and then come back late which is where three ride with FP then 2 with baby swapping pass.

Remember that you can get free hot water and ice water at all counter and sit down restaurants. Bring your own stroller as the Disney ones do not fold down and can get hot from trapped heat. Not comfortable.

Autopia is 1 year and older. Just to clarify, they changed this about 2 years ago, and it is now 32", not 1 year.

You said be able to sit up. Your baby does not have to sit up to be able to ride the ride. IF he/she does sit up they have to sit in the seat. A baby can be held on that ride, I have held every one of my babies on that ride w/o a word from anyone. It wasnt until they could sit up that they were asked to be out in the seat.

I swear, I am not trying to be argumentative at all! I just must get completely different CMs than you! My youngest, that is two, rode that ride as an infant, in my lap and in the wrap. We have never been asked about or talk to about her and she rides it every time with the rest of us.

That is a drastic change from the SOG!! Ever since that child was severely injured on Roger Rabbit, the SOG has been that babies could not ride unless they could sit up by themselves. I have children in your children's age ranges and I was never allowed to hold them on that ride. Something's very inconsistent at Roger Rabbit if this is going on.

That's seriously surprising given what I've been told by trainers and based on my own experience.

Here is where it was announced (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showthread.php?t=117095&highlight=autopia+height). I was thinking it wasn't 2 years ago that Autopia was changed. The first date in the thread is Oct, 2008. But it has been changed. Hey There's child would have been over a year at the change.

I had thought we had to measure my nephews last summer but I was probably thinking of Vava last Oct. Prior to the 32" it was 1yo, but the problem was, everyone would say "They are 1...."

AdrienneMy sister was required to take my niece out of the sling to "sit up" for Roger Rabbit, she opted then not to ride, as my niece wasn't big enough to sit up (this was 2+ years ago.) It was my understanding from both the CMs that we have spoken with and the CMs who post here this is a strongly enforced rule since the child was injured. Perhaps HeyThere just had the one CM that looked the other way.

Regarding the Autopia, for a few years prior to the height requirement, there was the one year rule.

There are 3 rides that we have been told every single time that baby must sit on their own and is not allowed in the sling
Roger Rabbit
Toy Story Mania
Ladybug ride in Bugs Land

Our recent experience at Roger Rabbit involved parents being offered a fast pass to return later when they were unwilling to wake their child who was in a sling at the time. The CM's were very professional but very firm in the fact that they were not boarding the parents with a child in a sling, the child had to be sitting in the seat between the parents. They were very clear that there are no exceptions to this rule.

There are 3 rides that ...baby... is not allowed in the sling
Roger Rabbit
Toy Story Mania
Ladybug ride in Bugs Land

There was a thread a while back about the difference [in Disney's mind] between a sling and a Baby Bjorn style multi-point harness. That thread was about babies in Bjorns not counting as "people" toward the maximum capacity of Peter Pan's flight.

When using a sling for Toy Story Mania, our daughter is almost always asked to come out. Occassionally she could stay in if her feet were visible underneath the safety bar, which for a sling usually meant having her face me. Since it's not as easy for me to balance her compared to when she is forward facing, I would usually just take her out completely. She has so far been allowed to ride in my lap, but I get the impression they at least want her legs under the lap bar. The cast members always or almost always check. When I used to nurse her or let her sleep in the sling with a cover over her I would get the occassional CM who would hesitantly ask "um, is there a baby in there...? And when I said yes I was told she had to come out.

When using the Baby Bjorn we have never been asked to take her out to ride Toy Story Mania. In general I think I preferred our sling, but we now use the Bjorn almost exclusively at Disneyland so that we don't have to take her out for the rides. (and to get higher scores on Toy Story :fez:) I'll be sad when she outgrows it.

I can't speak for the other rides since we don't go on them nearly as often.

I remember when that happened. And I agree it is inconsistent. I have been many times and never asked. Weird.

Yep, she was.

I dont know that it matters, but my kids were in a moby style wrap, way more secure than a baby bjorn or sling. Regardless, I was never told a thing.
