View Full Version : Sentimental question at MK
Leslie 07-04-2009, 04:46 PM Ok is it just me being so excited to act like a kid again or does anyone else get teary eyed when they just walk into MK and see the castle while walking down main st. Something happens to me like Im a child seeing WDW for the first time even though I have been there many times. Im just wondering if it's me or if Disney has this effect on others. I know, what a silly question. Maybe because I have had to do all the planning for 9 months and we finally made it. But I just think it's because it is so beautiful and a (im free) feeling.
Meisha B 07-04-2009, 06:33 PM I looove it too! It feels very special to be there, gives me a sense of relief.
iHEARTtheMOUSE 07-04-2009, 08:10 PM I know I'll cry when I take my daughter for the first time in Sept. She's still young, but I'm sure I'll cry every time I take her when she's little. It's just so cool to see the pure joy and excitement when they take everything in. And they believe! It's just sweet.
I'm always just so happy to be back. I started going when I was a child, and now it's like I can experience it through my kids--like having a second childhood.
WDW heart 07-05-2009, 03:49 AM It's definitely not just you. I think that is why it is so special. There is nothing like going through those gates for the first time in a while. The sights and sounds of main street and then your first glimpse of the castle.
Leslie 07-05-2009, 04:50 AM Oh good it's not just me. My husband says my hormones are off. What would he know. lol
WDW heart 07-05-2009, 05:09 AM When my youngest daughter was 6, we had the best WDW vacation, really the 1st one she remembered. On the last night at the magic kingdom, we walked through the castle to go home. She said, "Mom, can I touch the castle one last time?" That brought me to tears, I thought that was the neatest thing.
disnut8 07-05-2009, 02:11 PM For you it's the Castle. For others, it could be something else. A trigger that says "I'm here". For me, it's walking along the Boardwalk and entering Epcot via the International Gateway. That's the "I'm here" feeling. I've done that walk and entrance dozens of times but it always feels special to me.
tappenfeat 07-05-2009, 05:21 PM For me personally...it's our first visit to the Poly on each trip. That was the first place I stayed in 1980 and it's basically the same. The smell (does that sound crazy) of the lobby and the sounds of the waterfalls.
I feel like I'm a kid again. Even the elevator is the same...however it has changed thru the years here and there...it's the same in a lot of ways. The tiki torches and the beach. Running over to see Cinderella's Castle....
Then...I have to hop onto the monorail. It just takes me back everytime. :fez:
I'm there with ya! I really am!!!
And going with my children...it just adds that many more memories.
Oh...may I add...the GF? My hubby and I get sentimental because that's where we had our honeymoon.

anniedg 07-07-2009, 03:32 PM Oh, me too Mrs G!! Ah, to be driving under the arch <sigh>
I'm right with you too Leslie. I tear up all over the place, especially on the first and last days of a WDW stay. Dh just smiles and my boys roll their eyes :p
Leslie 07-08-2009, 01:09 PM Good, Im glad Im not alone.
4biegelboys 07-08-2009, 05:52 PM Everything when I am on vacation makes me cry. From walking into the park to seeing my kids interact with the characters, and for some reason Sea World always gets me too. I guess I am just an emotional wreck everywhere I go!!!! Oh Well Smiles through tears are my favorite kind!! :)
thymeandplace 10-13-2009, 10:34 AM As an eighteen year old male, I'd have to agree. I'm still a kid in some ways, but I was the secondary planner of our last trip, and I cried pretty much every single step of the way. I cried at the arch, the gate, reading the plaque (yes, I read the plaque everytime at DL), getting on pretty much every single ride, seeing any character, everytime I see any kid with a smile on their face. I really don't know how I'm going to work there without crying all the time.
jerseygirl407 10-13-2009, 11:00 AM The MK always gets me chocked up!! And as a 'local' AP holder I am the parks all the time.....but still during every parade or fireworks I think of the first time we brought the kids and how they were so in awe of everything!!
ericles 10-14-2009, 11:28 AM for us it has to be that monorail ride from arrivals to the baggage claim terminals at MCO airport! I know it seems silly but it's that relief of getting off the plane, finally there....and the tired looks of the folks leaving:crying:
and the first hit of humidity!!!!

You are the first person I have seen say this. Yes I say it all the time, but for me its DLR
My first trip to DLR was 1965. I have such vivid memories of that trip, they are as clear today as if I was walking in the first time. Ive been to DLR 100+ times since then, and WDW twice.
The one thing I tell people is the sheer genius of Walt with DLR. He built a berm around the park. At the time, it was orchards, but the area grew into a thriving metropolis. Even today, when you enter the parks, and go under the tracks into main street, you leave the world and enter a worry free park. I love how the berms insulate the sound of the outside world. I often take a seat in the rocking chair on one of the porches in main street and just listen and watch. It's cathartic for me on some level. My stress just totally disappears.
The sights, the sounds are all controlled and protected. Its more then just the rides, its the eyes and ears that are lavishly entertained when you walk into a Disney Resort.
There truly is no other experience like it.
