I'm going in march and I decided to bring my DD's stroller for many reasons instead of renting one. I've never parented in the park before, how do i prevent it from getting stolen when we all go on a ride? does this happen sometimes? please advise all of you veterians... Thanks:D

first off a couple of questions... are you bringing a 'high end' (read cool caddie style or as some stroller haters refer to as the humV type stroller) or just an inexpensive folding one? Do you plan to load it up with tons of stuff for the day?

I haven't had a stroller stolen but I have had our rental wheelchair dissappear from a waiting area for a ride..thankfully I had the reciept in my bag and they replaced it no extra charge, and it didn't have any personal items left with it so no real loss except a few minutes of aggravation....

I would recommend NOT leaving anything of value in the stroller, park the stroller in the recommended areas, CM's will move it if you park in the wrong spot, heck some times they move them if they are parked in the right spot....tie ribbons or yarn to the stroller to make it easier to identify in a sea of strollers ....I'm not going to lie and say that nothing bad happens at the parks, but as a rule strollers are fairly safe, contents are at a lot higher risk...

First of all, I'm gonna take a moment to "clear my name"-- I got an e-mail once from someone who misinterpreted something I wrote in a column as suggesting that stolen strollers are Urban Legends. Strollers have been stolen at the park, yes, that's true.

Personally, I have never had a stroller stolen, knock on wood, and I use 2 very nice, high end strollers and one "swanky name" stroller that isn't a very good stroller but has a good name on it.

As mammasilva said, don't leave anything valuable on your stoller. I always take my camera and whatever bag I have to carry my wallet. That said, a stroller with stuff on it (jackets, blankets, soda cups, etc,) is a lot harder to sneak away with than an empty stroller.

I know some people who take bike locks for their strollers. You wouldn't be able to lock them to a fence but you could loop the lock through the wheels so they wouldn't move, KWIM? This would require your wheels to have holes to accomodate the bike lock.

I've heard people who stain a diaper with root beer and leave the diaper on the stroller to discourage theft.

I really don't want to give you the impression that you're perfectly safe at DLR, but I do think that stroller theft is rare and not really something you need to be *too* worried about.

Never had a problem with my stroller. We leave tons of jackets, food etc in our stroller and yes even our camera, but not our wallet. I've thought I'd lost it on occaision but then found it was moved by someone. It always makes my heart skip a bit.

I have a very inexpensive stoller (but a good one) and I wouldn't be heartbroken if I lost it, just mad. If you feel that way about your stroller then by all means don't worry be happy.

Life is too short to worry about theft at Disney, but it sure would suck if it happened to one of us. :crying:

Nothing has ever happened to our stroller either, but as it's been stated already, you never know when disaster will strike. We use a double tandem stroller. All the blankets, jackets, bags, etc. stay with the stroller. Purses and wallets stay with us.

I'm always the one to park the stroller (usually because I'm the one pushing it around) and I have the following routine: Park it in a designated stroller parking spot. Easily identified by all the other strollers. Usually there are signs.

I do my best to not block other strollers from easily getting out. I try to make it so nobody has to touch my stroller to get it out of the way, but I also tuck it away securely to keep it out of any nearby traffic and to make it a little less of a potential target for stroller thieves.

When the back is reclined on our stroller it completely blocks off the undercarriage storage space. So I drop the back seat into a reclining position. This hides any bags or coats we have underneath and makes it just a little more difficult to grab things out of it.

I then close up both of the sun shades. This keeps the sun from shining on the seats so they're still cool when we put the kids back in.

Finally, I lock the wheels with the built-in wheel locks (not bicycle locks) to keep it from rolling away if it gets bumped.

We have had a stroller that we rented in the park taken because we left all of our stuff in it. It was taken from the Alice in Wonderland ride and was found in the men's bathroom in New Orleans Square. Of course my wallet, camera and other things were gone but we did get our rented stroller back! Dealing with Disney security was not a pleasant experience...you already feel stupid for leaving the stuff and they just make you feel even worse. Since then (it's been a couple of years) we always pack light and take most everything with us on the rides. We bring old blankets and jackets that we leave in the stroller so if it's gone, it won't be a big deal. We have never rented another stroller and always bring our own now. Our stroller has never been touched. (That may be because we don't leave stuff in it or it may be because it is harder to take a stroller that doesn't look like every other stroller in the park.) From my experience and like someone else has said already I think what you leave in your stroller is more likely to be targeted than the stroller itself.

as a frequent guest at Disneyland and having a stroller, I stole my hubbys inexpensive snowboard lock to use on the stroller when we go to disneyland.
The one we have is called the No Jack, and its a combo lock with a retractable cord. I just run the cord thru the stroller and diaper bag and lock it to the nearst available fence!
Also good for amusing yourself as CM's try to re-arrange the strollers, and cant figure out why yours wont move!!

You guys are the best!!! Thanks so much. jackets and diaper bag will stay, cameras and such will come with us. I'm going to try the bike lock (great idea). and I have always had a shopping rule: that is done on the last day of the visit, on the way out so there should not be too many bags of goodies. its a graco typical type stroller ($120) but it serves us well and therefore it is valued. Thanks again:D
