View Full Version : Is Disneyland Passe?

To tell you the truth, I am not terribly interested in what hapens at WDW. I am a Disneylander. It is the mother of all the other parks and what happens tere is significant. With the passing of Al and Kenvin, all the feature stories have taken on more of a right coast slant. It is disheartening to lose such a valuable resource.

Personally, I don't like reading about Disneyland "dirt"; especially overtime woes, and such. Obviously, it's a terrible situation for the employees and I wish them well with their fight for justice.

Then again, the world is filled with exploited labor. I just don't want to read about it on Mouseplanet, Miceage, or any other Disney page. I like Disney as an escape from such reality. I put up with ridiculous, inept management every day at work.

Just my take.

I agree. We are completely exploited at work, some doing up to 90 hours a week. In October 2000 I had one day off the entire month (and we made an emergency "I have to get away" one day trip to DL :) ) But I'll take the good with the bad, because that is what these sites are all about. When I'm not in the mood for the "bad" , I skip those parts untill I'm ready to read it. I am very interested in all aspects of the park, and knowing what the CMs go through helps us be better guests while visiting. It may seem on the surface that they have dream jobs, but I know they have to put up with as much *stuff* as the rest of the world.

Back to the subject of DLR vs WDW articles, give them time. From what I understand, the departure of Al and Kevin was somewhat sudden. Then the holidays were apon us. I'm sure the MousePlanet staff are working hard at getting more DLR news to us.

Maybe we should send them emails with the DLR subjects we want to read about so they know what we are most interested in. They get ideas, we get what we want, and peace & balance return to the universe, or at least the Planet ;)

This is certainly an important topic that just hasn't had enough discussion in the last 60 days. Why, I could only find three threads about it since November 1st.

this thread (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12173)

or this one (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12160)

perhaps this one (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11450)

I believe the Mouseplanet Staff has covered reasons for occasional imbalances ad naseum in these threads, but who knows, maybe they will do it again. I want them to write, "We hate Disneyland, it sucks! Happy?" but I don't think they will.

I think that "this topic has already been discussed in these threads" would work without the sarcasm. The last post on any of those threads was 3 weeks ago. And it doesn't seem like the number of Disneyland articles has gone up since then, has it? So perhaps it deserves a new topic after all.

On the other hand, I am glad there are people like you who have the time to let us know when there ARE multiple posts on similar topics. :)

Al and Kevin are very much alive, so I wouldn't exactly phrase it that way.

But I didn't know that Al and Kevin had left MousePlanet. How come there was no announcement?

actually there was an annoucement, forgive me for being too lazy to go search the link for you but it was done with grace and style ....and "most" of us wish Al and Kevin well in their new venture :)

As to the DLR vs WDW debate....anyone here that is NOT MP staff want to take a wild guess at how heavy the work load for our folks is? I mean this in the nicest way possible, but every staff member has a 'real job' a 'real life' and IMHO they do an excellent job here at MP, if it seems WDW is getting the lion share at the moment .. maybe so, but then there are times when DLR gets the lion share.....a LOT of people read MousePlanet that don't participate here on Mouse PAD.....I'm sure the Admin have a way of tracking how many "hits" the site gets per day....so even if todays article isn't your cup of tea, keep checking soon there will be one that is :)

LOL cstephens... I guess they wanted A & K to slip away as quietly as possible ;)

However, that was a one time event. The dearth of Disneyland articles is ongoing.

Actually, if you check the Columns General forum, the latest thread was started last week.

Now that the two-week holiday break is over and the MP'ers get back to having no life ;), I'm sure it'll all change *very* soon. :D

Don't lose hope, Disneylanders.... :)

Most of the original posts in each of these threads (especially the titles) are loaded with sarcasm, but I appreciate that my comments would work without it. I think they are funnier with it but I appreciate your helpful analysis.

Or, it could be beating a very dead horse. Especially since it comes off more like bitching than a legitamte request for a reason as to why. But again, that's just my opinion.

Actually, it only took less than five minutes with the helpful search function. Isn't technology great!

Actually when I noticed that they were gone, my initial thought was the start of GapPlanet so Al could keep after Pressler and let him know that the changing rooms were looking like they needed a fresh coat of paint.

Actually best of luck to Al and Kevin at MiceAge.com.

We got slammed for being All Disney World, All the Time, and it was true. There were reasons we were pushing WDW heavily, but the complete over-balance was unintentional.

Now we're getting slammed in January for the same thing. Is it true?

In December we ran:

10 articles relating to Disneyland
10 articles relating to Disney World
1 article relating to other parks (Paris)
6 articles relating to non-park issues (Mostly mailbags, which are all over the place, and DVD reviews)

Believe it or not, but at least half our page views come from WDW content and I apologize to those who wish the Disney empire were still limited to a few old cartoons, bad live action movies, and a 100-acre piece of land in Anaheim, but we do have a lot to talk about that isn't Disneyland, and we have a lot of people who like to read that stuff.

Frankly, the thing that makes me proud is that in a month during which we only published on 17 days, we produced 27 new articles (not to mention 12 new trip reports; which, while we don't write them, don't just appear on the site by magic).

Brat - awesome suggestion. You can send suggestions to any columnist, or to Alex. We *are* interested in writing for our readers, (including the 50+ % who have the poor taste to actually care about WDW :D), and we are always open to suggestions.

How about a series of "This Week in Disney History" articles? Mouseplanet could research and write about what Walt and Company were up to during "this week" 50 years ago; eventually leading up to the opening of Disneyland. This might be an interesting way to lead up to the 50th Disneyland Anniversary (disappointing as it may be).

I would also like to see more positive Disneyland articles. Can we get some interviews with face and costume characters? Not about Disney dirt, but rather special moments they may have had with guests. Or funny stories about what happened when chaos broke out in the character queue, or something.

How involved, if at all, is the Disney family with the Disney company? What are they up to these days? Answering such questions could prove interesting.

Since I'm not in California, I can't easily go see the carousel at Griffith Park which inspired Walt to create Disneyland. I'd like to read about this carousel and see lots of pictures.

I've heard Disney holds a number of patents. What are they? Are any used in industry? I think Mouseplanet would be a great place to find out.

Has something like these suggestions already been done on Mouseplanet, or elsewhere? If not, let's get going! :)
