View Full Version : Theme Park merchandise @ Disney Store online
Wiggler 05-13-2009, 07:01 AM Did anyone else get an email from the Disney Store? They are selling a limited amount of theme park merchandise!! I was very happy to see they are selling a snowglobe I had liked, but was unable to get due to the airlines restrictions on fluids. I was so excitied to see this! They also had some autograph books, which is a nice idea to have before you hit the parks. They had the monorail set- which would have been a pain to haul home. I like that they are offering things which would have been difficult to carry home or around. :D
merlinjones 05-13-2009, 08:48 AM FYI -- DisneyStore.com has just launched a selection of Parks exclusive merchandise online. Mostly staples, but some collectible things like Olszewski castle miniatures, Monorail sets, etc.

I hope they use this opportunity to feature some of the cool Tiki Room stuff available at the park or reissue the awesome Kevin & Jody-designed Tiki Room and Disneyland collectibles DisneyShopping used to carry - - I'd love another chance to get that Tiki Drummer, figurine sets, aloha shirt, etc. It's hard to find those now at any price.
Or wouldn't vintage Disneyland TV episode DVDs be nice (of course I'm dreaming...)? Someday they'll get Disneyland Showtime out there...
Second Star 05-13-2009, 09:02 AM Just got the email myself. :)
Already been out to look at the stuff they are offering. It's a little weak right now, so I too hope they expand their offerings.
And, I'm with you, I'd like to see so of the retro stuff available again.
Boo's Mommy 05-13-2009, 10:29 AM It is a very very limited selection though. I was looking through it this morning after I got the email! I am happy that the Mickey Apron is on there - but it didn't offer embroidering like at the park! Too bad the duffel bag promotion isn't offered through this new online items.
olegc 05-13-2009, 11:14 AM interesting....
some of this stuff is what they used to sell on DisneyStore website - but some (as in the ear hats) is new... i bet what you will never find though is the park-specific stuff for attractions. T-shirts, magnets, etc. Collectibles yes - because the price point is there - but not the other stuff.
First they create D23 - to bring the online fan back to try and get their eyeballs owned by Disney and possibly away from fan sites (not completely, though).
Now they are offering a sort of in the parks shopping service - similar to what is offered by MP and LP. Not as comprehensive as those sites - or Disney DelivEars - but it's their start..
And speaking of DelivEARS - I wonder if in the long run this will mean fewer staff members for DelivEARS - since they can easily drop ship some of these items from the manufacturer.
Samrain 05-13-2009, 11:19 AM I also got this e-mail and was really excited! Then I realized that I will now be spending way to much money on Disney merchandise year 'round (as opposed to just when I'm there!). It's actually a good idea because I know I've called the 800 number several times to have items I've seen in the stores shipped to me...now I can just go online and order it!
Art Is Resistance 05-13-2009, 11:44 AM Has you got a link to the store?
Apart from the Snowglobes, will they ship to the UK?
Thanks!
And speaking of DelivEARS - I wonder if in the long run this will mean fewer staff members for DelivEARS.DelivEARS staff has already been cut due to slumping sales, and CMs have been telling me that the Disneyland Resort department may close entirely, so this move isn't unexpected at all.

Rockchalker 05-20-2009, 06:26 AM Now the Disney Store is offering this (http://www.disneystore.com/apparel-glitter-walt-disney-world-castle-tee-for-women/p/1246909/71000/?CMP=EMC-eml&att=20090520DSIHV1LINKS&RRID=4511499).
My first thought is: It's cheating. I think half of the fun of going to WDW or DLR is buying merchandise that says you were there.
I think their tagline says it all: Bring The Magic Home With You :eyeroll:
Isn't this exactly what you would NOT be doing????
houseofmouse 05-20-2009, 06:34 AM Ha, I thought that too. I looked at a lot of the stuff though, and thought I would not want that for my sovinears anyway. I think it is a way to keep making money on the online business. It is kinda "Goofy" if ya know what I mean. :p
MammaSilva 05-20-2009, 06:47 AM The selection is so limited I don't see it making a big impact overall, but I could see this being helpful for the casual visitor who might not know about MouseShoppe but wanting/needing something to wrap to pull off a surprise announcement of an upcoming trip.
Drince88 05-20-2009, 06:47 AM I like it because everything in the parks is so seasonal, that if I find a shirt or something I like online now - who knows if it will be there when I visit in October. And it saves me from having to have too much extra room in my luggage for the 'bigger' items they're selling (especially if I collected snow globes, since I don't like to check luggage).
houseofmouse 05-20-2009, 06:50 AM Now Snowglobes may be a good deal for those who usually fly, since you cannot take those on the airplanes. :) I wonder how quickly they will run out of things online too, like seasonal shirts and such.
MammaSilva 05-20-2009, 06:52 AM I noticed they offer personalized photo albums, I don't remember seeing that offered at the parks. You can purchase the album but I didn't see any offer to have it personalized.

Snow globes can go into checked baggage. I'm with the OP though, that seems to take some of the fun out of only being able to get DisneyLAND stuff at DLR, and WDW stuff at WDW.
Drince88 05-20-2009, 07:12 AM Snow globes can go into checked baggage.
But not everyone checks luggage when they fly :D
I have an ulterior motive for liking that they're doing it, though - I got a gift card for Disneyonline, and it can't be used in the parks, so this at least expands the items I can get!
And it sure won't stop me from going into 'the big' stores to see what they have when I do visit the parks!
I like it. A lot.
I get to the DLR once in a blue moon. Now my daughters and I can have the occasional cool t-shirt. Also mug. http://as7.disneystore.com/is/image/DisneyShopping/940015868963?$thumb$
Well played, Disney.

wanting/needing something to wrap to pull off a surprise announcement of an upcoming trip.
Excellent idea!

Great point on the snow globes. We usually shy away from them because I don't want to pack them in the checked luggage.
I noticed they offer personalized photo albums, I don't remember seeing that offered at the parks. You can purchase the album but I didn't see any offer to have it personalized.
I just saw the personalized albums. I really like these!
My second thought was.... I think I just saved myself $6500 and packing and a long flight to Orlando! :p
Jim Dear and Darling 05-20-2009, 09:51 AM I think that's nifty, thanks for posting it Rockchalker. I often will forget, or not get around to buying something that I see and want at Disneyland. Now I can. This makes me happy. I only get to the DLR once a year, if I'm lucky.
Now, if only they would sell antenna toppers.
Obviously I'm going to be a little biased about this because I own MouseShoppe. That said, I'm honestly surprised it took them this long to offer this service, and I'm REALLY surprised that it's being operated through the Disney Store and not the theme parks. I know the theme parks have been playing around with the idea of their own online merchandise stores for a while, and everyone I've spoken with at Disneyland is shocked that it went this way. They are also more than a little worried about the fate of Disneyland's DelivEARS department, since that department has already been cut to the bone due to poor sales.
So having laid out my bias and what background I have on this, I think they did some things well with this, and some things not so well. (And that's about as far as I'm going with that discussion, because I'm not going to give them any help! :~D ) I am surprised at the selection, and also at the pricing of some items. We've had that same mug that 3894 linked to on MouseShoppe - at the same price - ever since they were released last year. The WDW ears are more expensive online than they are in the park. There are many instances where they offer part of a collection and not the rest.
One thing I was told is that the merchandise is being shipped from the Disney Store warehouse, not the theme parks. This tells me that the Disney Store purchased a bulk load of selected items, and will only offer that which they are willing to inventory themselves. This will always mean they will offer only a small subset of possible theme park merchandise, because they won't have the room to warehouse two theme park's worth of selection. DelivEARS and the independent shopping services have the benefit of being able to shop from the entire selection of the theme parks. If MouseShoppe only offered that which we warehoused, I imagine our site would look much like this one - 50 top sellers and a bunch of stuff we want to get rid of, but no option to get anything not shown.

Mrs. GusMan 05-20-2009, 10:30 AM I'm kinda excited about it. The glittery castle shirt has a story behind it for our family and I would love to surprise Goofygirl with it for her graduation gift. I didn't buy it down there in March and now I can get it before we go back.
"oooh shiny"!
