DOES IT BOTHER ANYONE ELSE THAT EVEN THE " FULLY RESTORED " EDITION OF PETE'S DRAGON IS STILL MISSING 6 MINUTES OF FOOTAGE FROM IT'S ORIGINAL THEATER RUN ?

:D :D :D

Actually Im just giving you a hard time. I've never seen the whole movie and what i did see never really appealed to me.

But I can see that if you liked a movie and then it had missing scenes, it would bother you.

What footage is missing? Would the extra six minutes be on the laser disc version?

I'm not sure.

The VIDEO and DVD releases are 129 minutes.

The original theatrical version is 135 minutes.

How long is the Laserdisc ?

Are you sure about your numbers zappop? IMDb lists (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0076538) Pete's Dragon as 128 minutes.

Most other sites I looked at agreed that the original run-time was 128 minutes, though the 1985 re-release was 104 minutes and there are versions that were as short as 89 minutes.

I'm sure.

According to the updated official encyclopedia DISNEY A TO Z, Pete's Dragon's original length is 135 minutes but was edited quickly due to the film's failure at the box office. At one point, Candle On The Water ( which was nominated for an award for best original song ) was cut out.

I wish I could've been there when it first came to theaters but I wasn't born until 1979.

Yes, I see that you are right.

I'll ask Kevin Krock about this, maybe he can get some information from Buena Vista Home Video.

Maybe they can JUST put out the missing footage so we don't have to wade through the other 129 m. to see it.

sorry. I hate myself sometimes.

zapppop is correct. Both A-Z and IMDB mention the original 135 minute "Road Show" cut, as well as the other, shorter alternative versions. The 128/129 minute version is the currently accepted "unedited" version, so most references show this as the run time.

Off the top of my head, I don't think the missing 6 minutes were anything critical or worthwhile, like an entire song. I haven't seen any comments on the net regarding the content of the edits in Pete's Dragon, but I'll check a few of my references when I get home to see if they mention the edit contents.

As a "most likely" guess, though, there probably were several scenes that just ran longer than necessary, so they were trimmed to maintain the audience's attention and improve the pacing. In a movie this long, several small edits can quickly add up to quite a bit of time.

Regardless, I'll check with BVHE and see if they have any info, but it'll probably be a while before they reply. I'll post any additional info I track down.

I just bought the Petes dragon DVD today, and there is a scene missing, I clearly remember when I first saw the movie the opening sequence was the Hogans singing a song to Pete abour how good the will treat him if he come home. That entire scene was cut.
So Zappop was right, I just dont understand why the scene was cut.
So please Kevin if you can find out why....
